Steely Dan - Brooklyn (Owes The Charmer Under Me) What do you think off first when you hear the words âclassic rock?â Jimmy Paigeâs majestic guitar solo on âStairway to Heaven?â Roger Daltreyâs primal scream on The Whoâs âWonât Get Fooled Again?â The menacing riff that opens Black Sabbathâs âIron Man?â Whatever your answer, itâs probably irrelevant. My point was that itâs almost definitely not related to Steely Dan. Too reserved to induce panty throwing ala Mick Jagger but too damn good to ignore, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen have been one of classic rockâs most consistent outfits since breaking out in the 1970s. Consider that when Eminem released The Marshall Mathers LP, it was Steely Danâs Two Against Nature which beat it out to win the 2001 Grammy for album of the year. Definitely  Probably a snub, but you get the picture.
Sadly, Walter Becker passed away on September 3, 2017. Luckily for us, Donald Fagen promises to keep playing with the Steel Dan band as long as he can.
