Happy 1 year anniversary to Hurry Up Tomorrow, the last album in The Weeknd’s latest trilogy (and possibly the last album under The Weeknd name? 🤔).
This is actually the first album I ever stayed up for to listen to as it dropped (it would have been Cowboy Carter but I feel asleep lol). It was an amazing experience and I enjoyed getting the chance to talk about the songs on discord and Twitter with other fans. I waited until after his Jimmy Kimmel performance aired before I listened to it and I even wrote down my reaction to all the songs as I was listening to them, which I never shared so I sharing them now:
1. Wake Me Up: He sang this at São Paulo. This is definitely the opening to what will surely be a musical masterpiece. It has MJ vibes; is this the Thriller reference that everyone said was there? Is he in purgatory? Abel is still in his pop bag I see!
2. Cry For Me: Ok interlude! Ok beat! A banger! People are gonna say this is about Bella as always. 🙄
3. I Can’t F***ing Sing: A snippet from the movie!!?
4. São Paulo: I should skip this song because I literally listen to it (the live version) almost everyday but this is my first listen so I won’t lol.
5. Until We’re Skin & Bones: Mike Dean is that you or someone else?
6. Baptized and Fear: Sleep paralysis. Love the story to this.
7. Open Hearts: Love how the last song bleeds into this one! And omg so he overdosed, got into a car crash, or something because someone called the ambulance in the music video (I went to the Apple experience and saw the music video; so amazing).
8. Open Night: Reminds me of Kid Cudi a bit; sounds like something off of Satellite Flight.
9. Reflections Laughing: Beautiful guitar. Is that girl from the Blinding Lights Chromatix remix back? (No that is not Bella!) Is that Travis!!? Fire!
10. Enjoy The Show: Kanye? Sounds like a Ye beat/song. Maybe Mike Dean or Metro did this. Oh Future. Hold up what? Not past 34? Stop playing!
11. Given Up On Me: Also sounds like a Kanye type beat. Nina Simone? Ooh beat drop!!!! Heavenly vocals. Part 2 of the Future feature. Where is old Kanye!!? Hello? Second half of the song is simply beautiful. This would hit with a Snoh feature.
12. I Can’t Wait To Get There: Who is that on the background vocals? Drake shade? Lol. This song is so funky. Old school vibes. Would love to hear a Bruno/Silk Sonic or Victoria Monet mix of this.
13. Timeless: Another banger single and one I have been listening to constantly since it dropped.
14. Niagara Falls: Beat goes hard. Canada reference. Who he talking about lol. Ending giving Dawn FM vibes!
15. Take Me Back To LA: The song we have been waiting for!
16. Big Sleep: Oh snap he released this finally! I love it when you’re angry supremacy! Still getting Dawn FM vibes from some of the songs and I love that.
17. Give Me Mercy: Like it.
18. Drive: Love the beat journey and lyrics. A song you listen to while driving lol.
19. The Abyss: That piano! Lana is that you girl? Of course she would be here at the end.
20. Red Terror: The beat is messing with me. Sounds like when my $10 earbuds would short out in high school. Eargasm!
21. Without A Warning: Almost at the end oh no. Tomorrow ain’t coming, he’s in a loop.
22. Hurry Up Tomorrow: Title track. Beautiful ending to a beautiful album. The streets are saying this loops into High For This perfectly.
Other thoughts I wrote down:
- Hope we get a Kaytranada remix to at least one of these tracks please!
- New cover definitely looks like a better movie poster. Reminds me of This Is The End movie poster. Love how the letters fade.
- Dancing In The Flames might not fit on the album. Maybe it’s a good thing he left it off the album then. Make it a bonus track.
- No what songs are on the vinyl I bought because clearly they not all on it.
- I don’t have favs yet. Will have to wait until I give it another listen.
