“I talked to my friends’ kids or just young people that I know and I’ll have a 12-year-old or a 13-year-old break down to me like, ‘He’s gaslighting right there! That’s psychological manipulation!’ To see her [Sink], she’s questioning whether she really is overreacting. And it gives me hope for future generations because if I was 19 or 18 watching that fight scene, I’d be like, ‘Oh man, he’s winning.’ When we screened it for the first time, we had people in the audience screaming out, ‘Gaslighter!’ I feel really good about the younger generation. Emotionally articulate. Gorgeous.”

STRUGGLING BECAUSE I SO BADLY WANT TO SCREAM THESE LYRICS BUT I DONT KNOW THEM YET
I love how usually the instant reaction by everyone (fans, critics, general public) to taylor's music is analysing how it relates to her private life and trying to figure out which of her relationships each song is about so then with folklore she's just gone "yeah some of these are made up some are real some are about people I don't even know some are about me some are myths some are fantasy some are memory. enjoy."
the way people are exploring the connections between songs and characters and motifs unrelted to her personal life instead of just "that lyric must be about [insert person taylor knows]" feels like analysing a poetry collection or something instead of a diary entry. taylor has truly ascended to another level where it's about so much more than her individual experiences. she said no more scouring my lyrics to relate them to people in my life we have progressed past the need for that ❤
