      he’s not naive either. it wasn’t possible for that, not when he’s lived in gotham city for most of his life. he’s not sure if there are any that haven’t been tainted by what the city has to give. lucas arches a brow towards the younger girl and he nods, sliding a hand into the front pocket of his pants. ‘  if i wasn’t, i wouldn’t have asked.  ’

         Oh wow, did he just flirt with her ? That sounded like a flirty comment to the blonde, & let her tell you, that she actually heard a lot of cheesy pick up lines like this one. It was so unexpected & cheesy, that it took her a few seconds to recover, dark eyebrows furrowing in unison. She studied the man, & what if he wasn’t even trying ? What if he was a natural charmer ? Dinah smiled back eventually, still unsure though,     “ Yeah, hum, I have no idea what you heard about me, but I’m not going to break the myth today. ”    & Lord knew how many shitty stories she had about the many things she sucked at. Dinah was literally a living mess when it didn’t come to professional business. More & more squinting after his next joke, & then a philosophical quote. This time, Dinah winced under the touch, but she kept staring back at him, intrigued,      “ Do you watch Grey’s Anatomy ? Because you’d perfectly fit one of the handsome Docs in it. ”

      there was a reason that he was one of the most popular doctors in the hospital. yeah, a part of that was because he was particularly handsome, but also because he was a good man. despite the fact that his day to day life was always busy, and he often had more patients and paperwork then he could handle ---- he took his time to care. it was often that nurses had to pull him away from his patients, due to the fact that he’ll stay with them and ask about their life. they weren’t just another face to him. ‘  well, i’m sure there’s many elaborated stories out there. surely, you can’t be surprised about that. you’re the black canary.  ’ he doesn’t notice her staring at him, mostly because he’s concentrated on bandaging her arm. his brows are knit together as he focuses, finally exhaling when he ties it together. lucas finally looks at her when she makes the greys comment, dark eyes blinking at her. it’s not long before he flushes pink and he chuckles, rubbing a hand at the back of his neck. ‘  yes, well .... i’m afraid their lives are a bit more chaotic then mine.  ’

     that was a loaded question. he’s sure he could let the events he’s seen slide by, perhaps chalk it up to the impending old age. but at the same time ----- he couldn’t just forget. lucas knew what he saw and it would leave an imprint on him. he pauses for a moment, teeth sinking into his lower lip. ‘  yeah. ... yeah, i wanna know.  ’

Gods, he must be truly at his bloody limit if the doctor’s question doesn’t prompt a flirtatious remark for a response. As it were, his main concern lies with not losing his arm rather than get under the man’s skin, and he keeps his answer as objective as he can manage.  ❛  No more than I do my shoulder.  ❜  He replies between gritted teeth, throwing the doctor a pointed look.  ❛  Just get on with it.  ❜  

     he’s sure every fiber of his being would have enjoyed cutting into the shirt first, and asking questions later. but as much as he doesn’t like the other man, he was still respectful. and a doctor. ‘  a ‘ please cut it, doctor sanchez ‘, would have sufficed.  ’ he’s back to sassing the other, though it’s in a more cheery tone, just to piss him off. it’s not long before he’s cutting the fabric around the bullet wound, just enough that he can get a good look at it and be able to work around it without fussing with the shirt. even though the fabric was basically useless now.

blue eyes dart behind her for a moment, wincing in pain when she puts too much weight on her ankle. she wasn’t sure if it was sprained or not, just that it hurt like hell. she wasn’t sure if the guys that were chasing her gave up and she’s already stopped long enough. kate shoots a short glance over her shoulder once again, an unsteady breath escaping her.  ❝ i uh  —– i’m on my own. it’s only for one night and i swear, i can pay you back before i leave town.  ❝

     brows furrow watch as she looks behind her shoulder, twice. he’s not sure if she’s hiding from someone, or from him ------ but she’d be gone by now if she wanted to get rid of him. ‘  that’s alright. you, uh, don’t have to pay me back. consider it a favor.  ’ if she didn’t have anywhere to stay, then she mustn't have a lot of money on her. besides, he would be fine without a couple hundred bucks. the hospital paid him enough.

      nevertheless,   selina finally rewards him with a shake of her head,   loosing a breathy chuckle.        “    nope,   don’t think so,   doc.    but i’ve had to bring a friend in a time or two.    might’ve seen me passed out in a   waiting room   chair looking like a zombie.    besides,   i think i’d remember your face if we’d met.    ”

       ‘  i ---------  ’ he can already feel the tips of his ears turn red. it’s embarrassing. it’s times like this where he thinks that this is the specific reason why he’s single. not only is his life too busy for a stable relationship, but he also turns into a shy schoolboy whenever someone pretty flirts with him. lucas coughs and ducks his head slightly, focusing on moving the fingers that had stilled on her ankle.

    he continues feeling around for the broken bone, peeking up to gauge her reaction. it didn’t seem like her injury was serious, but he’d like to make sure. there’s a solid minute before he replies back, praying that his ears have turned back into a solid tan. ‘  i do see many faces around the hospital periodically. that must be it.  ’ he muses. ‘  and, ah ... there’s many doctors here. you’d forget my face easily. ’

She wasn’t a nurse, nor a doctor, & she was convinced some had graduated from med school for a reason ; like Dr Midnite for example. You guys are very cartesian. ”

       ‘   maybe it’s best if there’s one thing you can’t do.  ’ he answers lightly, shooting her a quick smile. it was so easy to put the heroes on a pedestal ---- assume they’re like gods, that nothing can touch him and they can do everything that someone normal can’t do. it took some work to realize they were just as human as everyone else. lucas works on stitching up the cut on her arm, careful not to make a mistake. he just finishes it up and is pulling out some gauze when he responds to her. ‘  i’m not like most doctors. for one, i live in gotham.  ’ he chuckles warmly. ‘  i believe in what most refuse to. who am i to tell you that what you feel is wrong? as long as it’s not physical.  ’

     it seems like it all happens in the span of seconds. he only seems to register that she seems to be asking him out once she’s left his side, and lucas blinks slowly, a faint flush appearing high on his neck and around his ears. he’d ... like to think he was a man that could properly woo a woman, but that ---- that wasn’t the case. his life was far too busy to fit in dates and dating, though he’s tried in the past. it wasn’t like he didn’t want to, instead it was more like he had shit luck and plus, there wasn’t a lot of free time he offered himself.

       this wasn’t like anything he’s ever experienced before. lucas was a man of open belief, but that only extended as far as things that he knew already existed in this realm. magic, aliens, gods. that’s what he could believe. but the possibility of vampires, or other’s that are supernatural? that might take a bit more time for him. ‘  so .... is there anyone else like this?  ’

      go    go         ,     she   won   the   fight   but   not   without   some   kind   of   damage,     she  felt   it  the  moment   ankle   met   her  side   ,      a  gasp   for  air,      sharp   pains   ,         deathstroke,          never     seemed   to  be  a  fair   fight    with  that  .    never   a  solid   foundation   for  friendship   or   partnership   either.       her   complicated     buddy.  

      a    groan      –––       ❝    no    no,      do   your   thing.      ❞            VOICE    BLEEDS   BEYOND    A  WHISPER      ,       there’s   a   rift    in    her   throat   that   shakes   ,       how   hard   did   she  fall  ?      very   very   hard  ,      apparently.                   she    watches     as   he   begins   his   work,     lifting     shirt  and   observing   the   bloody    bandages  ,   common   sense   tells   her  he’s   gonna   remove   that   next.       ❝      pretty   damn   hard  ,    doc     -    -    -        ugh         ,    fuck      !         ❞        was     all   this    worth    the   trouble   ?      she   might   say   so.      

       he waits patiently for her permission, nodding quietly when she gives it. fingers flex for a moment within the gloves and then he’s gently tugging her shirt up ---- just enough that he can get a good look at her wound. lucas is still paying attention to her, but he’s more focused on looking at the damage. he’s gentle in the way that he touches her skin, though still firm. ‘  may i recommend being more careful next time?  ’ he eyes the blood staining the bandages and her skin, a neutral look on his features. he removes her bandages next, still careful not to do it quickly. he hasn’t even taken it fully off and still, he can tell the stitches are undone. messily.

        there’s a hand that rubs over his jaw, stubble pricking over his calloused fingers. he’s thinking about it, but then his gaze flickers back towards her wound, the blood dripping down her arm. he might not be on the clock ---- but he was always a doctor. and it was telling him that he couldn’t waste time thinking. she needed aid, now. ‘  fine.  ’ he finally tells her. his hand falls from his face and instead moves to unravel the scarf from his neck, moving to wrap it around her bloodied arm. ‘  but i don’t have any tools here. they’re back at my apartment. do you trust me?  ’

Aye, part of him knew that there was more than enough reason to what the doctor was saying, but it didn’t mean he had to like it. In fact, Hook was nothing if not hellbent on not conceding to any of the man’s points that he could reject. Sharp inhales follow in attempts to suppress further groans of pain as the bastard pokes him around.  ❛  No, you are something else alright.  ❜  Though he doesn’t say it, variations of the word prick hang in the air. With more difficulty than his pride would have wanted, Hook moves to take up a seat where he’s instructed, releasing a sigh of exhaustion upon resting. 

       while he was more then happy to respond to hook with something less then pleasant, he instead stays quiet and focuses on finding the tools needed to patch him back up. a hand runs through his mess of hair and eyes dart through his office ---- finding gloves, scissors, tweezers, his ‘ tool box ‘ (  basically all his doctor tools in it  ). it’s not long before he makes his way back towards hook, propping all his tools on his desk. gloves are snapped on and he spares a glance towards the other. ‘  how much do you like your shirt?  ’

      ah, there it is. thank god ----- because he was about three seconds before assuming she’d be fine and walking away, before some old lady thought he was some creep trying to hit on a young girl. lucas nods, and his gaze darts away from hers for only a second. ‘  well ... i could help you get a hotel room for the night, if you don’t have anywhere to stay.  ’
