Huh... no, you're doing the right thing. Photo icon is correct. Maybe it's because you're posting on mobile? I know mobile effects quote posts and turns them into texts posts if you reblog them on mobile... but I didn't think submitting art on mobile turned them into text posts too. That's weird. It shouldn't do that... hm. Maybe try using Tumblr from your browser instead of the app..?
