How To Advertise Your Towing Business
How To Advertise Your Towing Business: “Brothers of the Hook, Joined by The Cable!”
You’re out there working your fingers to the bone.
It’s not an easy job. It’s a dangerous job, and can test the wits of even the most skilled tow truck operators anywhere. Day in and day out, you’re out there helping drivers get out of a jam. Whether it’s someone in the mall parking lot who locked their keys in the car, or a much more serious tow call that has you pulling a flipped car of the edge of the road. All in a days work, right?
The point: as a tow truck driver, it’s your job to help calm, alleviate and restore the distress of those who’ve gotten themselves into a mess—day in, and day out.
When you got into the tow business, it was more than likely on a whim—try something new. Or maybe it’s a family business—one that’s provided for a few generations for your family.
However you might have wound up in the truck, it’s always a challenge to brand, market and advertise your tow business when you’re out there everyday helping people out of jams. Once you get home, do you really want to start researching, planning and figuring out how you should advertise your business? No, you want to kiss your spouse, hug your kids, eat some dinner and relax.
Most experts in marketing will tell you to spend somewhere between 2 to 5 percent of your gross sales on advertising. But, again, where do you start? Is there a company that is directly associated with your needs and wants? Do they understand your business? Will they bring you the leads you’re looking for? Will they be available to you when you have a question or need something changed?
Chances are, they won’t. And you’ll have spent your hard earned income on something that isn’t working for you.
There are, however, some easy and free ways to get what you’re looking for if you’re willing to put in the time:
No a days your web presence is everything. Where are you sending your potential clients searching for a tow? You have to have something set up that will give potential clients the ability to reach you on the web. A simple Go Daddy website can help you for the short term, but it’s best to branch out and find something that will have a more robust appearance with the ability to write and build up your content for Google and other search engines to crawl and push you to the top.
* Start a Blog: One easy way to go about this is to start a blog through www.tumblr.com or www.wordpress.com to get you started. You can also post pictures, video and other media to help boost your search rankings.
* Create a Social Media Presence: Use facebook and twitter for your business. Create a facebook business page that promotes everything you do on a daily basis. You can see how to do that here: https://www.facebook.com/business/build
* Twitter is another great platform to show your stuff. Search, connect and follow those associated in your business and they will likely follow you back. Give candid updates about things during your day or take picks of interesting tows. There’s also a lot of great people to follow that will help alleviate a stressful day.
* Word-of-Mouth: Offer a discount to those who send you referrals.
* Build Alliances: Most in the tow business know this is key, but it’s also very important. If one can’t make a job, give it to another and vice versa. Also network with those who work on trucks, sell supplies etc. to help market your business to those looking for a reliable service.
These short but sweet tips are just a few ways to help get your tow truck advertising out there if you like to do things on your own.
