Poor Leno... Will and the other Alphas in his life did this to him, the system did this to him, but in a larger and perhaps more real sense, he is doing it to himself. Perhaps he will manage to break the cycle he's caught in in the next installment.

I do now know how the series will end (picture me rubbing my evil little hands together or something).

I am so freaking excited for your new fic! The prologue was such a good tease of what’s to come and I am also loving that TZJD tag.

Thank you! I'm really excited for this one. I think it (or the version of it I'm currently planning) is pretty different from anything I've written before, which is fun for me. But who knows! Animus was supposed to be a comedy, after all, and look how it came out!

I love jdtz and I will fit them in every gap I possibly can. I feel I still haven't nailed their characterization (And He Was felt good but I don't feel like I really know them yet) so hopefully I get it here.

Ok @gollasper but what if both are true. He buys the cybertruck back when everyone was like ‘it’s so rugged it can go in the water!’ and ‘it’s an evolved pickup!’ and now that he’s saddled with this decaying semi-functional husk of a car (sorry, truck) he tells himself he’s still a pickup guy. He still calls guys who don’t drive trucks gay, and he means it. But there’s this little part of him that wonders, every time a mud-covered pickup speeds past his pristine silver Cybertruck: would they really see me as one of their own? Or am I the pussy.

i think everyone has said everything insightful i had to say about virtue signal already but i need to reiterate that it was great. made me feel a little nauseous from how much i could relate sometimes. theres something about wanting to look and act feminine then feeling like you've started way too late and its useless now.

i love Sourdif in this, he keeps making attempts at Leno's attention but Leno is too busy trying to Win At Being An Omega he doesn't really notice him or is ignoring him on purpose. it kind of gives him a semblance of control? he gets to seek out who he wants to see him. but only kind of. the invisible voyeur

PLD just being normal was a nice break from everything that made up that locker room

I'm not really a Capitals guy but I really like Justin Sourdif. Just seems like a charming dude (knock wood etc). I think Leno is failing to notice him, personally, but as things stand 'ignoring him' is an equally valid reading.

I love PLD! Leno's read on things isn't very reliable though. Like he thinks Dewey's whole deal is a sex freak humiliation ritual, but behind the scenes Dewey's just kind of a weirdo (affectionate). His perspective on the locker room would read very different. He'd still be worried about the same things Leno is, because any sensible omega surrounded by Alphas in this universe worries about that stuff a bit, but WAY less.

All this to say PLD is great, but he's definitely not unique to the Capitals locker room. Leno's just so wrapped up in himself and his paranoia he can't see the good.

I loveee your fitness series I’m admittedly more interested in Macklin than I am Ryan so I was wondering if what Ryan believes to be true that Mack “has it all” with being an omega and “one of the boys”. He certainly believes that but to me Mack comes across as being just seen as an omega. A desired one but still an omega. Idk how his relationship with the sharks is but in bc he was certainly excluded for being this great omega. Is Ryan only believing that Mack gets everything because he got Will while Ryan didn’t

So Leno thinks a lot of things and almost none of them are right. He's definitely convinced that Mack has it all, but he's not right: Mack's just kind of on the Madonna side of everybody's Madonna/whore complexes, and Leno's the whore (he was even before he started sleeping around). Mack isn't one of the boys any more than Leno is, in fact he's elevated compared to them, which is equally as lonely as or perhaps even more lonely than being treated like Leno.

virtue signal hit me in places that I’ve been working on processing vis a vis my own relationship to sex and my sexuality so it was a really hard read (in a good way, i think), especially in terms of sex as performance and having one’s enjoyment of sex/experience of pleasure almost completely determined by whether you are being perceived as satisfactory and sufficiently erotic, to the point of your own pleasure being tertiary or entirely numbed.

it made me really sad because I see so much of myself reflected in Leno. so i know how much further he probably needs to fall before he can start to climb back up, if he even gets the chance to do that.

!!!!! sex as performance, exactly! It's not about you anymore, it's what you can do for other people and how you look while you do it!

Leno does indeed have farther to fall, but I think he's very capable of recovery. nothing is hopeless.

Virtue Signal was so tragic and great... throwing back his head while he gets off alone in his room for the always-present invisible voyeur... once again proving hrpf can be a fantastic vehicle for exploring gender & misogyny!!! Is there any hope for Ryan in this universe? Will not even being the one inviting him to the wedding killed me. Do you think there's any path for him to make peace with his designation and eventually learn some self-worth?

Do I think he can make peace with his designation? Hmm. I think someone else would have to kickstart the personal growth for him, you know? Like, I don't think he's going to arrive at self-worth all on his own. Maybe he'll stumble into it while copying Mack, but I think he needs to absolutely fuck up a monogamous relationship with an Alpha first.

Seriously! And yet he’s probably the most balanced character in the whole series.
