not feeling great, some g3 hissfit idea doodles
Kiyomi Haunterly Redesign (I hope we get her in g3)
In g1, Kiyomi being a Nopperabō was more of a cosmetic aspect to her character so I decided to really lean into the yokai influence. She’s a bit of a prankster but it’s all in good fun. She doesn’t wanna traumatize anyone. I wish there were more yokai in MH. (´-ω-`)
Kiyomi Haunterly reboot/redesign ideas:
Change her name to Kiyomi Noppera, Kiyomi-bō, or something similar. Giving her a western-sounding surname like "Haunterly" doesn't sound much like it could be associated with a yōkai (outside of being a ghost, but still). EDIT: I have been told that Kiyomi was originally named after an ex-employee, Kiyomi Haverly, which I guess could make sense for naming her that. However, considering Kiyomi (the character) is supposed to be a japanese yōkai, I still don't feel like giving her a western surname fits for some reason.
Have her normal outfit be based more on a high school uniform or japanese street style. Maybe even make a traditional kimono as an occasional/special outfit for specific doll designs.
Have her be treated as normal when around humans, especially since Noppera-bō is supposed to appear human. In the human realm, she could wear a face mask and sunglasses to hide her faceless features. In the monster realm, let her just be out and wear her face mask/sunglasses less.
Instead of making her a stereotypical shy asian girl, keep her as distant to humans, but harmless/friendlier around monsters. Perhaps maybe even make her a tiny bit of a trickster to humans and monsters alike by scaring them (in a playful/teasing kind of way). Other Noppera-bō kids could be helpful in pulling pranks on others when they come together.
Give her masks, signs, or a notepad to show how she feels. She could even use sign language (japanese or english) to communicate as well. She could possibly keep her color-changing abilities to show off her emotions depending on how she's feeling.
She could be sensitive to loud noises because of being neurodivergent rather than just being "the shy girl." Maybe even give her special headphones for certain loud events since she hates loud noises.
Make her selectively mute. Even though many Noppera-bō legends tell that they can still talk without a mouth, maybe Kiyomi could be mute on certain occasions.
Lose the chains on her design. It makes sense for Spectra to have chains, but not all ghost characters need them unless there's a reason.
Have her dad either be a monk or highly spiritual. After all, Noppera-bō does translate to "faceless monk."
Monster high characters I think would work REALLY well in g3.
•kiyomi haughterly
I feel they could really do something more interesting with her faceless gimmick. (As admittedly g1 didn’t really try in that regard.) Maybe retool the inner monster gimmick and have her come with different masks with different emotions on it?
Have her be a nuerodivergent character who struggles with expressing her emotions!
The baby kaiju she says she has in g1. The concept of her having a baby Godzilla is hilarious.
•Silvi Timberwolf
My girl got done so dirty in g2. Give her another chance.
She stands out as the only werewolf who got a doll that isn’t a part of clawdeens family. With how many werecats we get, we do need more none wolf family wolves.
Have her and catrine be a couple. Dunno why just think it could be cute! It’d give catrine a legitimate reason to exist😭
Her Pet? Reuse the g1 crescent concept and give her a cat. (And if you’re running with the catrine girlfriend idea she gets a dog! Parallels!)
•gooliope jellington
Keep her massive in height but also make her plus sized. Even if it’s just an edited upscale of catty’s body.
Give her an outfit inspired by the giant irl suit version of her instead of her doll one. I really love the layers and mixed materials!
Pet? A rabbit. But specifically one of the massive large dog sized Flemish rabbits. Because it’d be huge to other characters but regular rabbit sized to her <3
• dayna jones and vandala doubloons
The fact monster high introduced two completely unrelated pirate themed ghost characters in two completely separate generations never fails to amuse me.
I’d use them to explore the concept of step siblings and merging families after a divorce.
Lean more into vandala being disabled via her peg leg prosthetic!
Pets? Vandala gets Aye back (obviously) and give dayna a mimic named cap’n!
Design from 2023 for keychains! I never posted them here so I’ll be sharing them this week!
I just can't get over this doll. Especially since barring some exceptions for the Skullector line, this is easier one of the more... shall we say Grotesque dolls Monster High had?
From the skulls in the shoes, to the skull on her hat, to the fact that said hat with the literal drip makes it look like a bloody headwound...
This doll looks legitimately creepy and I adore it.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but designs in animation are optimized to be recognizable and easy to animate continuously, neither of which are things your oc needs to be.
Go crazy, give it 7 hair colors, use eye shapes that aren't seen in any of the characters, add that hooked nose that you have no reference for in the canon style, add clothes, add a belt, pierce that dog's ears, use 13 colors on that cutie mark, give them 4C coils even when the canon black characters barely have waves.
Go crazy. Have fun. Don't restrict yourself to the simplicity of canon designs! There's a reason so many characters get redesigns in fanart, or get significantly more complex in it. No one will clown you for stepping out of the animator guides, and whoever does is a fucking moron. I'm sorry but it's true.
Stop losing chances to draw over the anxiety of sticking to canon! ♡
And yes, that includes Mary Sues.
Raven Queen redesign ☆
finalllly finished this one honestly kinda forgot I had a tumblr lol- my headcanon is that she refuses to peel the protective film off of her guitar
i think they like to gossip a lot
Maddie's dragon games outfit was soooo good, it was giving steam punk, WHY DIDN'T MATTEL MAKE A DOLL OF HER😭😭😫
I love my curly baby, they really overlooked her
Currently in the process of writing a piece on MH G2 and it has me looking at all of the art from that era. Honestly it’s definitely one of the highlights of G2, so cute!
clawing and crawling my way to payday so i can buy amped up frankie ndndksm im planning on doing a faceup and a hair restyle::::
a little glam rock david bowie yk yk
Amazing how with g1 ot had no issue keeping honey’s afro in every doll of hers but still making it unique for each doll
Yet g3 the supposdly “ultra inclusive ultra progressive” reboot gave venus twists in her first doll only to INSTANTLY give her straight hair in the second doll
Are ya all gonna start actually listen to Black ppl when they say there are massive antiblack aspects in g3?? Or ya all gonna keep claming their just “toxic g1 stan blinded by nostalgia”
Happy Birthday, Frankie Stein (G1/G2)! (Monster High)
