The Art of Ping Pong:

Within this collaborative effort we see a wide array of artists who range in various presence, some formidable in practice and idea’s while others more illustrative and”young” such as Luke Dixon who is reliant on a social media following.

What is it with design having practical use?

Although enjoyable the Art of Ping Pong had a certain”sleeziness” surroudning it and I couldn’t tell you why. Although the ideas within the exhibition had a brilliance about them I was more amazed by the auction pricing that they would fetch, sometimes upwards of £300.

When leaving the exhibition I felt more positively of the work but when thinking back I do hold some resent. i don’t want to critique so harshly upon the artists, their work was inspiring, I felt the need to mimic the exhibition and create my own potential contribution due to the wide array of idea’s. My real resent may actually lie in the gallery itself and it’s unwelcoming attitude. I felt looked down upon, as if I was a student and nothing more, as if i didn’t have an awareness or appreciation for art and design, I can’t appreciate the work if the environment the work is in can’t appreciate me. Perhaps however I am being cynical, putting the attitude of the space aside and admitting my jealousy that due to their price tag I may never own one of these pieces I wish the event all the best.

The Vaults: Collaborative Effort

...Was an exciting and engaging activity to be involved in. The collaboration featured support for the Paris Attacks drawn by individuals taking part that contrasted against humorous illustration or tags sprawled across the wall. It was a real display of human consciousness, the thoughts of everyone involved in one place. Essentially a brain conveying ego, worries and purpose.

My real admiration for The Vault lies in their generosity for providing a space, a creative grounds to communicate as a collective whatever your message may be. It embraced childish qualities asking you to paint on the walls and leave your mark whatever it may be.

You could call it a cliche, but for someone who isn’t native to London and barely considers it home yet it was beyond welcoming to be a part of it alongside anyone who wished to join in.

ENTROPY PHOTOGRAPHY Workshop

Using long exposure photography I documented the various levels on Entropy on roads and railways across Surbiton and Kingston using traffic as an indication of serenity and chaos.

PROJECT LOG – WORD UP

I propose to produce a piece of 3d typography that causes reflection upon the acts of war. My given location was the site of the Guards Memorial in St James Park and the Horse Guards Parade. I was lucky enough to visit the site on Remembrance Day and so I witnessed London in an eerie state of silence paying respects to those fallen. I was also able to see the Calvary in full attire paying respects through a demonstrational silence, which helped me to reflect on the aftermath of war. After several ideas of how to approach the topic in a respectful manner my conclusion became simple. A see through model of the word “freedom” that allows those paying respects to return their poppies to the site in the style similar to a donations box and so when everyone has played their poppies inside the words are no longer see through but constructed of a body of poppies seen from afar. I believe that upon the completion of the poppy filled type this will become dynamic and striking displaying unity and collaborative effort between myself and everyone paying their respect.
