This summer went by insanely fast 😭

A few years ago I didn’t think I’d make it through undergrad and now I’m a grad student with an assistantship, I just went to a party hosted by one of the biggest oboists in the US and I played in a masterclass at the international double reed conference in front of a crowd of professional oboists 🧍🏽‍♀️

Somehow ended up playing Aria and Quodlibet by Running in the grad quintet for the chamber recital tonight 🥴 Their oboist tested positive for covid yesterday and asked if I could sub for him in the chamber recital. Even though it wasn’t perfect, I’m glad I was able to pull it together enough that nobody noticed I’d only gotten the music the day before.

Trying so hard to squeak out the high A in the Ravel 😭 It’s the first time I’ve had to play high G# and A for any reason 🥴 At least I can hold the G#🥲

I get the hurricane threw everything out of whack but I do feel like I should know when my lesson is by the 3rd week of the semester as well as the fact that I’m in two other chamber groups 🥴 I just found all that out in the last 24 hours 🥲

I got power back yesterday and I’m so happy, I was at my limit 😭 so glad I didn’t have to wait as long as I expected

Other people have it worse but I really do miss hot food and lights 🥲 Even not having AC isn’t a huge issue because I’ve only had it in one other place I’ve lived so I’m used to being uncomfortable during the summer

I was on the verge of a mental breakdown thinking I’d have to experience my first hurricane on my own, but one of the girls from the studio said I could come to her place since she lives really close. I’m really hoping it’s not as bad as it’s predicted to be but it’s not looking good right now

Update: still haven’t gotten to the worst of it but where I am is out of the direct path of the storm. It’ll still be bad, but not the devastation I was expecting up until today. I just feel bad for the areas in the middle of it and New Orleans doesn’t have power from what I’ve seen.

I haven’t even been in grad school a week but the concept of being able to personalize my classes and only take things I’m truly interested in is so freeing
