In an interview, James Mulvale said he got into xenharmonic music because of that one video Adam Neely made about microtonal lofi hip hop.Β This follows that same principle of always being in 12edo but jumping up and down a quarter-step.
Someone mentioned this as an example of polytonal music.
The video is pretty minimal, but this is the first time Iβve been able to share this one since it didnβt used to be publicly available anywhere.
This music is like the galaxy brain meme turned up to 11.
Content warning: the dogs die tragically. Β Easily one of the most traumatic songs Iβve ever heard.
I saw an NPR quote saying that you could tell it was Beauty Pill even when Chad Clark isnβt singing.Β I have to say, this singer totally nails Chadβs cadence.
Sad that Igliashon Jones left Mercury Tree, but we still get these great collaborations.
The xenharmonic folks are into this one.
Nine Inch Nails micropolyphony?Β YES
Adam Neely pointed to this, while expressing some skepticism.Β I did better than Neely on the tuning test, and below average on the beat test.Β I feel that all my time listening to detuned pop and microtonal drone has finally paid off.
