surprisingly difficult question: are these creatures sapient persons or animals that someone outfitted? I think the ungulates are probably just animals, but the jerboa and bird I think might be sapient, although unfortunately none of their item descriptions help push it one way or the other. Well, actually one of the descriptions is “If a Jerboa ever asks you to go clubbin’, decline.“ which does imply they can talk at least lol. Foos already have a connection to Talonok, so I think that explains the new ones being all armored up anyway. The sparrows… I don’t know if they’re meant to be like, a reference to something or a pun? They’re hard to classify. If they had arms they would be Talonok, if they even had little raptor hands I could group them with Aviars. But I think it’s just a little battle bird lol. I guess someone could have armored it. I do not know what to do with these SPARROWS
The jerboa line strikes me as more of a in-universe joke, specifically a dad joke that a father might tell his hatchlings while reading to them in the evening.
The jerboa definitely looks like an animal to me. Look at that face, look at those eyes. He is no thoughts, only violence. He will bash your skull in if you get too close, but he really just wants some seeds to nibble on and a nice dark burrow to call home. Someone dressed him up with leggings and bracers and he tried to chew them off before getting distracted by a tasty smell.
But the sparrows? Those sparrows are smart. See the look in their eyes? There's intent. There's determination. This is a bird on a mission. He's got armor, he's got a cleaver, he's got a chopping block, and he knows how to use all of it. He doesn't have hands so he got help getting equipped, and I doubt he speaks in a tongue dragons understand, but there's no use in arguing that he doesn't know what he's about.
