economics and left wing politics are only just the beginning. catholicism must experience a cultural rebirth. people (esp in the US) must start recognizing themselves as catholics first. and thus “produce” art which is catholic. catholicism is more than a religion, it is a living breathing concrete international community.

this is also why Pier Giorgio Frassati is so important. he truly understood the importance of having a really vibrant Catholic culture. you know what term his sister uses to describe him the most in her biography of him? “militant catholic.”

Liberalism is the politics of a set of elites, whose members through their control of party machines and of the media, predetermine for the most part the range of political choices open to the vast mass of ordinary voters. Of those voters, apart from the making of electoral choices, passivity is required. Politics and its cultural ambience have become areas of professionalized life, and among the most important of the relevant professionals are the professional manipulators of mass opinion. Moreover entry into and success in the arenas of liberal politics has increasingly required financial resources that only corporate capitalism can supply, resources that secure in return privileged access to those able to influence political decisions. Liberalism thus ensures the exclusion of most people from any possibility of active and rational participation in determining the form of community in which they live.

“When it comes to low-income women who have poor health, or too many children already, or are unmarried, or dependent on social welfare, society does not celebrate pregnancy. It is not beautiful anymore. It has intruded itself where uninvited. It is not useful. It is not productive – of the right product, that is. Poor women are supposed to produce labor. Well-off women are supposed to produce well-off, clean, healthy, beautiful, charming, dutiful citizen babies.

That the Left’s answer to this is often “abortion” shows just how capitalist it is, and just how little capitalist systems value persons.

Abortion has become a necessity for this system. The value of the individual in this system is relative to utility / productivity, so women who have gotten pregnant in the unaccepted context are devalued, and gotten rid of. A deferral than occurs – the unborn child is devalued, and gotten rid of. But the decision to devalue was not, initially, that of the woman. It is already the attitude of her society.

To those employers who value employees based on what, when, and how much they produce (a woman was not hired to produce a baby!), abortion is a necessity. This includes employers who profess to be pro-life. Our entire utilitarian system buzzes along as it does because of our unmentioned methods of disposing of those who are not useful to us.We elevate female fertility in accepted contexts (whether in secular ads depicting idealized bourgeois home life, or pop theology delectating over the beauty of motherhood) but push it aside when inconvenient. We push out of sight the offensive pregnancies, placing the burden of care for the child on a marginalized woman. 

While the Left offers her abortion as the only obvious alternative, the Right demands that she not accept this alternative, but offers almost nothing else in its place.In order to minimize the demand for abortion, we need reframe our view of pregnancy, beyond the system of capitalist production.”

The Tilama, located in The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico.

Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe (Our Lady of Guadalupe) in Roman Catholicism was an apparition of the Virgin Mary on December 9, 1531. She appeared to a Mexican man named Juan Diego on his way to mass, asking that a shrine is built of her on that spot. When Diego told the clergy, the bishop demanded a sign. She appeared once again to Deigo and told him to collect roses. Deigo presented the roses to the bishop by opening up his cloak and letting them fall out, and on the inside of his cloak revealed the image of Mary. 

She then became the patroness of New Spain as well as a symbol for the Mexican independence movement. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the world still come to see her image in The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which was built on the spot where she supposedly appeared.
