“mid-life... i’m twenty.” jake stared at the other, shock clearly peppering his features at the sudden ATTITUDE he was being given. “but-- i don’t know. apparently i’m confusing and-- and dramatic, and-- i don’t know.” he shrugged, suddenly unsure of his OWN point. “all i’m saying is, i can’t risk an injury right now, i’m sorry.”

"I'm NOT dramatic, don't say that. I just know what I want out of life. Don't you?" An open-ended question that was IMPOSSIBLE to answer. Four or five years from now, either one of them could end up deciding they want something TOTALLY DIFFERENT... which means the answer to this was no all along. "...and I want to follow my career."

“i would never choose to ignore you.” jake promised. “especially not when you’re my lovely date to this bar.” the questions about his life brought a little blush to his face. “unlike... you... i DO get ignored. people only pretend to listen.” he didn’t mean it in a sad way at all. all it was in his mind was a fact. people were interested in jake but not interested in getting to know him.

“...i used semi-permanent dye. it should come out after a while, right?” jake’s voice was a bit higher in slight panic. it was silly, really. upset over a hair color. but he wasn’t the ‘fun colors’ type. he liked his dark hair and that was about it. losing a bet to his sister was the worst thing to happen to him in awhile... “please tell me this will end.”
