danny tried to be charming more times than not. that was the side that most people new and it wasn’t that he was rude any other time but it was that sometimes he just wanted to be left alone. it was obvious when he was in one of those moods and now wasn’t really one of those times but anyone could see that he was more than ready to go to bed.  “right.” he nodded his head. he wasn’t sure what he’d do if he collapsed. he hoped that someone would eventually help him to his room but who knew who’d stop to help and who wouldn’t? he stopped in front of his room and let out another yawn. “really? you didn’t have any plans with anyone else? really?” he was surprised that she hadn’t made other plans. “you’re welcome to come in and talk for a little while. i just don’t know how excitin’ i’m gonna be.” he admitted with a soft chuckle.

“nope. i’m a lone bird this evening. give me your key card so we can get you all settled in.” sofia liked to just be by herself a lot of the time, though she had enough friends that she could spend more time with people. sometimes, she just liked to be alone and enjoy her time. she loved to read and curl up with a good book. and especially after a long day at work, a book and a blanket would be her solace. “it’s up to you, dan. i don’t want to disturb you. you look knackered and i want you to rest up and have some good sleep. need you all fresh for tomorrow.”

     the blush on her cheeks was enough to make hunter bust out a big grin and a soft laugh. he didn’t dwell on it, though, and knew better than to bring it up. ❝ please. don’t act like there isn’t a handful of guys you could be spending your time with other than me. ❞ he joked, although deep down inside there was the tiniest sliver of jealousy. another laugh escaped his lips at her words, their eyes meeting for a brief second before hunter looked away. she was really the only one he’d willingly dedicate a whole day to aside from a couple of others that he could somewhat tolerate. hunter was irritable towards most, and just in general. ❝ very silly. ❞ he nodded in agreement. there was something that happened merely a day ago and it wouldn’t leave his brain no matter how hard he tried to occupy his mind. sofia seemed as good a person as any to share his thoughts with considering they’d usually confided in each other. ❝ my parents called me, ❞ hunter started, ❝ they wanted me to send them money from my next paycheck. ❞ his tone was a mixture of seriousness and partial disbelief that they’d bothered contacting him at all. the atmosphere in the room no longer full of jokes and playfulness. ❝ can you fucking believe that? ❞ he realized this probably wasn’t the kind of conversation to have first thing in the morning and attempted to change the subject. ❝ anyways, you excited to go to fiji? ❞

sofia rolled her eyes and shrugged. “i mean, yeah. maybe there are other guys that i could be spending my time with, but i’ve got you and i don’t need them if i have you, hunter. and you know it, so shut up.” sofia and hunter were a force to be reckoned with. she would stick with him until the day she died. she couldn’t see herself in a life without him. since meeting him, sofia had only improved mentally and physically, even. he just pushed her to want to better herself. he was a good, positive energy for sofia and she hoped desperately that she was the same for him. her fingers laced into his hair and she played with it gently, keeping herself distracted. when he started to speak, her free hand moved to tangle in his hair and she wanted to keep him distracted and calm. talking about his parents always riled him up and she didn’t want him to spend too much time dwelling on the issue. she wanted to help him and be the person that could pull him back from that place. “oh, honey.” even when he tried to change the subject, sofia kept on for a moment longer, wanting to address the situation. she didn’t want him to feel as though he just had to brush everything under the carpet. sofia was the one person he should feel like he could tell anything to. “you don’t have to try and be all macho with me. feelings are feelings and i don’t blame you for being upset over this. especially given your past with them. i’m sorry they’re putting you in positions like this. it fucking sucks and you deserve so much better than that, hunter. you deserve the entire world and i am genuinely heartbroken over your family not always being the best for you or doing what is right for you.” sofia placed her hands against his cheeks and lightly kissed his forehead. “i’m always here for you. no matter what. i’m your family out here. i hope you’re okay with that, because i genuinely feel like you’re my anchor out here. i can always tell you anything and i feel so safe whenever i’m around you. and i just want you to feel the same with me. i love you, okay? you’re my boy. you always will be. no matter what i do or who i meet or where life takes me, you’ll always be right there with me. and that won’t be changing any time soon, so get used to my annoying ass in your life.” with a soft smile, sofia pressed a chaste kiss to hunter’s mouth, thumbs smoothing over his cheekbones. “anyway,” she paused to clear her throat, “i am excited to go to fiji. what about you? ready to see some sights and enjoy not being on the ship for a bit? i think that might be wild. i always forget how to be me when we’re not here. like, i’m used to the movements and the swaying and we’ll be on solid ground and i won’t have to constantly try and steady myself. it’s a little bit insane.”

slow days at the whirlpool had to be the worst days, considering there were never enough swimmers present to warrant more than a single lifeguard ( today, there happened to be three ). he’d taken to pacing along the deep end, whistling tunelessly and twirling his sunglasses around and around and around in an attempt to entertain himself. unsurprisingly, it wasn’t working. he was mid-chorus when he heard sofia’s voice behind him, his pursed lips stretching to a grin. suffice to say, his day just became interesting. he raised a skeptical brow at the nickname he hadn’t approved, but his smile didn’t waver. “ well, this is a nice surprise, ” he intoned, flashing his teeth as his grin widened. his eyes dropped to follow her touch as it moved from his chest to the cold silver of the whistle hanging from his neck. at her conspicuous glance about the pool, he tore his attention to their surroundings as well, noting just as she must have that no one was giving either of them a second thought. choking back a gasp as she tugged him down, his fingers went instinctively to her waist to steady himself. his feet moved mechanically as she pulled him after her, the sight having to be amusing as he surely looked like a dog on a leash. “ ‘m goin’ on ma break, mate, ” he called over to his coworker, not bothering to glance over his shoulder. closing the distance between them, ken wrapped his arms around sofia’s middle, lifting her a few inches from the ground as he continued walking. “ ye’ve got quite the nerve, there, lassie, ” he breathed against the skin of her throat as he stepped into the locker room, the door swinging silently closed behind them. “ seducing a man while he’s at work, now? ye’ll be the death o’ me, i jus’ know it. ”

sofia had to admit this was quite bold of her. but sometimes, she felt like it was better to do things that she might regret later because she wanted to do it in the moment. but she was almost certain that she wouldn’t regret this later. “i’m glad you feel that way.” she was more than glad that she had shocked kenneth enough that he was surprised at the turn of events. and it was just lucky that everything was going well at the pool so that she could steal him away for a while. and it would certainly be a while that they were gone. sofia grinned and a soft giggle left her lips as he lifted her off the ground. his strength shocked her sometimes and it also turned her on beyond belief. she wrapped her arms and legs around him, fingers tangling into his hair as he spoke, voice vibrating against her throat and sending shivers through her. “i don’t think it’s nerve, ken. i think i’m quite brave to come in here whilst you’re working and turn you on. you didn’t have much going on and i wanted to come and see you. and you seemed pretty happy to see me when i popped in.” her hands slipped to cup his face gently and she lifted his head up to look at her and she pressed their noses together, grinning down at the other. “besides, you certainly feel like you’re enjoying all of this. feel like you’re really enjoying me being here with you, ken.” sofia slotted their mouths together in a gentle kiss, though there was so much passion behind the move and her heart was racing. being in the locker rooms with him was just another one of those places where they could be caught at any moment and it was such a turn on for her. they certainly had a thing about being in semi public places. the danger was such a thrill for her.

    the tip of his tongue glides over his bottom lip whilst he still watches the girl and only snorts slightly at the her tiny admission to teasing. fists clench and unclench at his sides as he watches her suspiciously, brow pulling down as she moves her position and he nibbles at the inside of his cheek with that tightness of something not so friendly in his chest. behave. “ - i think i’ll look rather ridiculous.” milo murmurs, but yet finds himself tugging off his boots and socks to set out of the way and eases down to his knees beside the girl. “how silly am i going to feel doing this?”

sofia grinned as milo removed his shoes and socks and moved to kneel down beside her. rolling her shoulders back, sofia groaned a little at the pull of her muscles and she hummed. “well, i don’t think you will. i mean, first of all, nobody’s even in here and so nobody will even see you. it’s just you and me in here.” sofia shuffled over to milo and pressed her hands against his lower back. “okay, now lean down and just breathe. nice and deep and slow so that you can feel it in the pit of your stomach. and then roll forward and place your palms down against the floor. just like i was a second ago.”

      he tried to ignore the warm feeling in his chest at having sofia so close, this had been happening a little more recently in the time he’d known her. he wasn’t quite sure why, but somehow this girl had managed to hold a special place in his closed off heart. he loved the time they’d spend together whether there was an activity to do or even just sitting and talking about anything. hunter still wasn’t quite ready for that kind of a romantic commitment and lord knows he wouldn’t try to suggest otherwise to her. ❝ pretty girl like you? you’ll never ever be lonely. ❞ he teased, arms loosening their hold on her ever so slightly. his gaze traveled up to the ceiling and his head nodded from side to side in thought. ❝ well, it’s not quite as good as chocolate but i can offer you my company? i’ve got off from work today and nothing planned. ❞

sofia didn’t have so much of a warm feeling in her chest as she did in the pit of her stomach. she knew what it was, but she couldn’t pinpoint why it was. nothing about hunter had changed or their friendship. they were the same as they always were and yet, she found herself so much more attracted to him. she usually just tried to think of something else, but then they could be in a position like this and it could get a little harder to deal with. “first of all, you’re adorable and i thank you for the compliment. but second of all, i’d always be lonely in a life without you.” it took her a moment to realise that that wasn’t actually the reason why she was claiming to be so lonely. her cheeks heated up a little, a soft pink tinge covering the tops of her cheeks. she so desperately wanted to be able to shake that off, but she was sure hunter had already noticed it, so there was hardly a point. as hunter loosened his hold on her, sofia leaned back slightly to watch him and she grinned. “i’ll agree that chocolate is better, but your company is fab. and, as it happens, i have the day off, too. so we can spend all day just cuddling and talking. what a dream.” she lifted her hand to her head and rested the back of it against her forehead, pretending to swoon. sofia threw herself back into hunter’s chest and tilted her head back a little to catch his eyes and she grinned. “we’re silly together, aren’t we?”

danny appreciated having the girl by his side and he knew that he could rely on her whenever he really needed someone by his side. he smiled over at her softly and took a deep breath as she spoke, “yeah,” he rubbed his eye with his free hand and nodded slowly. “i guess i’m lookin’ just about as bad as i feel. i didn’t think takin’ on a couple of new ones would affect me this way but i guess i overestimated how much i can handle on only a couple hours of sleep.” he let out another yawn. “i know it is. i’ve never had to doubt you. thanks for doin’ this though. i’m sure you have better thing to do than to practically carry me to my room.”

sofia had a side of her that nobody had ever had to see. she was glad for it, because the reputation she had built up for herself was long lasting and it painted her in a good light. sometimes, she would think of all the people she might lose if the worse side of her was shown. danny would be one of those people and he really meant a lot to her. he was a good friend to her and she wanted to make sure that he was safe and okay and she wanted to keep him close by for as long as possible. “yeah, but that’s normal. when you’re not feeling so hot, your body does start to show it. and your physical stability can go down as your mental stability does, too. it all makes perfect sense, but that’s why i’m helping you out. can’t have you collapsing on me or anything, can i?” sofia had managed to get them to the staterooms unscathed and without any children being harmed along the way. she felt almost magical for doing so. “honestly? my night was free anyway, so i might as well do something good with my time, right? it was do this or just lay in bed and stare at the ceiling until i could be bothered to get dressed.”

“oh my god, yes! exactly,” temple exclaimed, a small giggle passing through her lips at the description the girl gave. as sofia glanced around the room, temple really tried to go through the images in her mind of all of the co-workers she knew. each of them almost more attractive than the last. it kind of blew her mind, honestly. “i know, right? but, honestly, there are some people on here who really don’t do… too much work,” temple murmured, leaning closing to sofia to lower her voice. 

“it’s all natural, love, don’t worry about it. it’s nothing to be ashamed of.” sofia stretched her arms out over the back of the booth and tipped her head to the side, watching temple for a moment. she could almost see the cogs and wheels turning in her head and she cocked an eyebrow. “oh, is that so? are you going to give me the gossip or just keep it all to yourself? ‘cause, you know, if you have something juicy to tell me, temple, i’d love to hear it.”

it would certainly be an understatement to say that sofia was flexible. the girl had been involved in gymnastics from the age of 5 and she had never lost her love for the sport. practise makes perfect and it was no wonder she was so good at stretching and contorting herself into all different positions now. “maybe so.” she could hardly deny that she wasn’t trying to tease milo, but no harm ever came from teasing someone a little, did it? sofia placed her hands flat onto the floor and edged them forward until she was a little lower to the floor, now able to rest her knees against the mat. she easily moved herself into the child’s pose, her face tucked into her arms as she just breathed slowly. sofia enjoyed having other people join her for doing this. she always felt a little weird when they just watched, but she had grown used to it by now. a few moments passed before she lifted her head and looked at milo, a soft smile on her face. “i reckon you could ace this one, though, don’t you think? i could help you.”

sofia smiled down at hunter, humming as she noticed the blush spreading across his skin. her hand lifted to brush her thumb over his cheekbone, hand pressing against his skin. “you’re the cutest, hunter. don’t feel bad for it. i’m used to it by now, you know i’m just teasing you, silly. and yeah, i guess i’d have to say that you did win. but that’s only because i wasn’t ready and you know it.” sofia’s hand stopped moving across the nightstand and she turned her head to look at hunter, a grin present on her features. “i don’t know, you certainly seem like the type of guy to pinch all my chocolate when i’m not looking.” and then he told her what had really happened and she gasped, lifting her hand to her chest. “oh, goodness gracious. we really went and finished all that last night? what a mess we both are.” she had donned a southern accent as she spoke, though it began to fade out as she finished speaking. sofia was rather good at mimicking accents due to the amount of passengers they had from different places around the world. but it was hard for her to maintain it for a long time. she giggled as hunter wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into his chest. it actually was very nice to be that close to him and cuddle him. “i think you’re gonna have to find something else for me to enjoy, hunter. it’s so sad. it’s all gone and i’m just.. i’m just so lonely without it!” they were both a pair of goofs but it was why they were so close and got on so well.

sofia had just gotten onto her break. after letting danny know she would be back in twenty minutes, she rushed out of barracuda and made her way to the pool where she knew ken would be for the day. she had never actually done something as bold as this with him, but she was a little frustrated and she wanted to have a little fun. and with ken? it was always fun. once she spotted him, a grin graced her features. she made her way around the pool, dodging passengers and flashing them all a sweet smile. “hey, kenny.” sofia’s voice was cheery and her hand came up to rest against his chest, fingertip brushing over the plastic of the whistle hanging around his neck. she stood like that for a moment, casual and looking around the pool to see who was there and make sure that nobody was particularly seeking them out for anything. there were a fair few people around and enough lifeguards that she could make this work. sofia wrapped her fingers delicately around the whistle and tugged him towards her. her lips found the shell of his ear, humming quietly. “break time.” she began to gently pull him along behind her as she made her way to the locker rooms. // @lionshcart
