When I stop and look at who I’ve become over the past two years, it scares me. I look at old text conversation and old photos and I don’t recognise myself in them anymore.
Gone, is the person with the optimism, motivation, and the can-do attitude. Or perhaps I’ve merely taken off that mask? That version of myself has always felt a bit too carefully crafted in my subconscious to be my true nature anyway. But true nature or not, I do miss being that version of myself.
The nature of my job as an infantry platoon sergeant forces me into a certain mould. Discipline. Regimentation. Unbending. Most of the things I have to do in my job don’t win me popularity points, even among my peers. But I know I have to push on and finish this, because I made the choice to be here.
I began my two-year journey in National Service as an army clerk due to a medical anomaly. It would have been easy for me to stay in that comfortable vocation and bide my two years away, but I didn’t feel it was fair for me to be there. There was nothing medically wrong with me. What right did I have to spend my two years in comfort while my fellow peers are out there breaking their backs?
So I pushed hard to get upgraded to a combat vocation eve though I knew what was in store. The infantry would probably be the only vocation I could end up in, with me having less service months than a new enlistee.
And so, now I’m here.
Although I spend most of my weekdays stressed out and overworked, and most of my weekends gloomy and unsociable, I continue to fall back on my one last purpose. I will give up two years of my freedom so that my family and loved ones can continue to have theirs.

Does it matter?
harrison: *in a completely monotone voice and like he’s given up on the entire star wars franchise* bang. bang.
carrie: *actually acting* no luke, it’s too late!
harrison: *in that same monotone voice* … bang. bang.

i would cry if someone did this for me 😍💯
sometimes i think about the fact that Dreamworks was working on the Prince of Egypt and Shrek at the same time and would apparently send people to work on Shrek instead of the Prince of Egypt as a form of punishment
the night i posted this i couldn’t find a source and i’ve been wondering ever since if maybe it was just some kind of fucked up fever dream or something. but no, it’s real:
