Thinking about how lacking in any sort of actual religious practice Veilguard has going on. Bellara saying "those are our gods" like a million times and everyone else in the entire game being like a Christmas and Easter Andrastian aren't really anything. There's not even like chantry sisters or brothers hanging out at the chantry in minrathous or Treviso. All chantries in the game are devoid of religious folk and are taken over by blood mages. And it doesn't want to have a chat about that.

it kind of feels like the equivalent of thor: love and thunder where the entire premise is centered around questioning divinity and your relationship to it and who should/shouldn’t have access to it. and yet it has no interest in it at all! like, rook and christian bale killers are functionally the same in their quest to become godkillers—both literally, and in the sense of faith deconstruction (the whole the gods are ancient elves/spirits/so on bit)— and in a world so deeply committed to the idea of faith this theme is reduced to barely more than a gimmick. a heroes journey whose story ends at the credits rather than have real lasting consequences on the world around them. why should we care about the stakes da:tv raises when the game itself doesn’t seem to?

#and also this is unrelated to the faith bit but this is also why the crows feel so hollow in comparison to zevran and prior incarnations #its like the game wants to be about justice in a world rife with injustice but they don’t want to actually live in it #they don’t want to do the work of deconstruction so they shove bits under the rug and poof suddenly treviso crows dont use child labor!#suddenly the antivan crows—whose greatest prior allegiance was to profit— is now basically the antivan special forces #its like treating the mob as if they were the red cross c’mon now
