I'm not in Kansas lolololol
Perhaps it's psychic distress.
Best friend's garden still waking up. She acquired several cool statues over the winter. I'm trying to get through the plot real quick and uproot as much grass and weeds as I can so I can lay cardboard under the mulch and not have to fucking fight it all year. I did this all ass backwards but I'm already carrying these lessons on to the next project: The Bathroom Garden. (More to come on that.)
Meanwhile, back at Mirkwood Motorhomes, I am so very fucking pleased to announce that the focus of my shame last year has blossomed into the potential for redemption and species preservation.
The clematis pitcheri survived!!
What on earth is she talking about, you wonder? Before I enrolled in a BS program for sustainable horticulture in August 2024 I was out in the wild being all ignorant and destructive. Not on purpose, but that's neither here nor there. I dug up a cool-looking plant in the wilderness at a county lake and brought it home. The internet informed me that I was evil and deserved a good tar-and-feather at the very least, but that whole incident inspired me and motivated me to forge the path I am on now. SO.
I planted it at an un-ideal time (hottest part of summer) with maybe not an ideal amount of time to develop a good root before winter. But the plant is a native clematis (Central Plains) and I'm Tom-fucking-Bombadil. There ya go.
Anyway I'm gonna be obsessed with this baby all year. If she can produce seeds for me, then I will happy. NOT for sale to plant vendors, just to be clear. But it is an S5 rare plant, so I can work with other plant folk to grow other specimens for, like, public/educational gardens. It's not listed as threatened which makes me feel SO MUCH better (but not too much better).
October has arrived.
this is here bc i thought it was a shitpost before i realized tumblr was telling meĀ āhey, you follow the sustainability tag, howās this?ā
Everyone send this post to your parents
aww so cutes
What is your favorite natural phenomenon?
A thunderstorm rolling in over the Flint Hills. (Inclement weather of any kind, actually lol.)
September 8
Everything is still so beautiful. I got some azurea sage to add to the native collection as a gift for the volunteer work I'm doing.
I also bought what should be a disallowable amount of mums, and three asters, but pics of those later.
SURPRISE TROPICAL CLEMATIS! It bloomed in the late spring, kinda died off, and has come back!
And here's my Arwen in a pig costume.
mutuals do this!!!!
Reblog to pass around warm bread and soup
August 28
NOTE: I DO NOT DROP THE BOUQUET AT ANY POINT. Don't sweat it. Another goofy bouquet, but this one is more stunning and less goofy in my humble opinion.
Like the taco bell cup I stuck it in? XD Any port in a storm I suppose.
Blanket flowers, oxeye sunflowers, zinnias, blackeyed susans, all native except the zinnias of course. Quite the autumn piece!
August 24 Part 2
The bestie's garden!
The moonflowers were, in fact, moonflowers and boy are they stunners. Grown from seed. I'm so proud. The blooms are slightly different than my own variety in my garden, and I gotta say, I'm a huge fan. They smell incredible.
August 24
Keeping up with the blogging is not something I'm good at during August apparently lol. To be fair, it's been insanely busy outside of gardening.
Critters!
MY FIRST SWEET PEA FINALLY BLOOMED!
We're under drought restrictions so even though as a food garden I am entitled to watering everyday, I generally don't and have done a darn good job collecting rain and ditch water (yeah thats my humble brag whatcha gonna do). My garden is definitely healthier since the drought started lol. I over water, and rain water is infinitely more nutritious than hose water, so like I said. She's lookin' more gorgeous than I could possibly make her on my own.
I ADORE MY MARIGOLDS.
Aren't my tomatoes gorgeous? Well worth the wait.
Yellow zebra beefsteak heirloom.
They smell divine.
August 12
That black eyed susan is so funny. I have to hack it back to keep it from overtaking everything nearby.
My new natives look amazing. I can believe almost all of them have bloomed in their first year. I hope they all return next year.
I decided to prune my okra tree and I do not regret it. I love the shape and it doesn't seem there were any negative consequences.
Tomatoes are FINALLY ripening (I've been enjoying cherry toms for 2 weeks but no full size would ripen!). I. AM. EXCITE.
Speaking of EXCITE. So many eggplants, but no idea when to harvest them.
