My Tears Ricochet
alright i have a theory about the album cover. buckle up letโs go
so all of her previous album covers have been close ups of her and focused on her, and all the songs on the albums have been stories about her life, hence the focus on the close up of her
this album, sheโs further away and itโs not a close up of her, itโs more focused on her surroundings, and she says these songs are stories not necessarily about her life, but about things she has observed around her, hence the focus on her surroundings more than on her
The Love Triangle Storyline:
Cardigan/August/Betty
Lyrical continuity/Easter eggs:
- The cardigan
- The cobblestones
- The car
- The front porch
- Summer romances
Cardigan: bettyโs perspective
- Seems to be the song of Bettyโs perspective on her love, she thought it was all they needed in the moment, but then James left (with another woman: โchase two girls, lose the oneโ), but they returned to her front porch after summer ended
Notable lyrics: High heels on cobblestones/And when I felt like I was an old cardigan, Under someone's bed, You put me on and said I was your favorite/ Chase two girls, lose the one/To kiss in cars and downtown bars, Was all we needed, You drew stars around my scars, But now I'm bleedin'/peter losing Wendy/I knew you'd haunt all of my what-ifs/I knew you'd miss me once the thrill expired, And you'd be standin' in my front porch light, And I knew you'd come back to me
Betty: Jamesโ perspective
This is the song that ties cardigan and August together mentioning things from both, which would makes sense as โJamesโ is the one spending time With the two other participants of the long triangle, it seems Betty was the one James truly loved but they got swept away in a summer romance that they werenโt fully committed to and later regretted, turning up on bettys porch to ask forgiveness
Notable lyrics:
The worst thing that I ever did, Was what I did to you/ In the garden would you trust me, If I told you it was just a summer thing?/ I was walking home on broken cobblestones/ When she pulled up like A figment of my worst intentions, She said "James, get in, let's drive", Those days turned into nights, Slept next to her, but I dreamt of you all summer long/ Will you kiss me on the porch?/Standing in your cardigan, Kissin' in my car again
August: The Summer lovers perspective
The woman James left with for the summer (she sings about pulling up in her car, which is retold in Betty from Jamesโ perspective) tells her perspective of loving someone who was never hers for a summer, but when they went back to school they didnโt want her. James wasnโt โhers to loseโ because they loved and then returned to Betty after their summer affair
Notable lyrics: August slipped away into a moment in time, 'Cause it was never mine/ Will you call when you're back at school?, I remember thinkin' I had you/So much for summer love and saying "us", 'Cause you weren't mine to lose/Remember when I pulled up and said "Get in the car"/
itโs you and me, thatโs my whole world๐ป<3
@taylorswift
This album may have only been out in the world for less than a day but already itโs one of my favorites. From lyrics to melody to meaning this album is incredible. @taylorswift thank you for creating this work of art and being brave enough to put it out into the world so others could hear it too. ๐
Lover is slow dancing in a dark room with candles burning all around you but itโs also one of you stepping on the others toes and breaking out in laughter and making jokes in between kisses and I just love this vibe so much
Okay but to everyone saying that @taylorswift and paddington arenโt the same person... have you ever seen them in the same room?
Archer is everything I need right now, like I canโt even put it into words but Taylor did and just UGH itโs so so good but Iโm so sad that sheโs ever felt like that, but itโs also good to know Iโm not alone
I stand with Taylor ๐

Taylor โthere are some political undertonesโ Swift
๐HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!!!๐ While we have so much to celebrate, we also have a great distance to go before everyone in this country is truly treated equally. In excellent recent news, the House has passed the Equality Act, which would protect LGBTQ people from discrimination in their places of work, homes, schools, and other public accommodations. The next step is that the bill will go before the Senate. Iโve decided to kick off Pride Month by writing a letter to one of my senators to explain how strongly I feel that the Equality Act should be passed. I urge you to write to your senators too. Iโll be looking for your letters by searching the hashtag #lettertomysenator.
While thereโs no information yet as to when the Equality Act will go before the Senate for a vote, we do know this: Politicians need votes to stay in office. Votes come from the people. Pressure from massive amounts of people is a major way to push politicians towards positive change. Thatโs why Iโve created a petition at change.org to urge the Senate to support the Equality Act.
Our countryโs lack of protection for its own citizens ensures that LGBTQ people must live in fear that their lives could be turned upside down by an employer or landlord who is homophobic or transphobic. The fact that, legally, some people are completely at the mercy of the hatred and bigotry of others is disgusting and unacceptable.
Letโs show our pride by demanding that, on a national level, our laws truly treat all of our citizens equally. ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐

Iโm always so immensely proud of Taylor, but today especially. She uses her voice for good and understands that the things she supports and speaks on can evoke real change. @taylorswift ILY SO MUCH
