you guys send in asks whenever you want about any opinions you have on transformers! i’ll also post my own stuff and also post polls!!

i’m familiar with many continuities, but if i don’t know one, consider it a chance to educate me on it!

Hiiii I'm gonna ramble abt themes of European Alchemy in tf >:) I study the subject a lot for my uni electives so I have a good amount of knowledge, may be back to infodump even more later teehee

So. Alchemy has been pretty explicitly referenced several times in a handful of continuities, w/ alchemist prime and the Quintessons. But also, in every continuity, the cyclic nature of Cybertron's imperfect golden ages and subsequent falls into ruin, to various degrees, is very much analogous to the goals of the European alchemists. So much so that perhaps Cybertronians themselves are both the material and the alchemist, each generation and each faction sharing the goal of a perfect, immortal golden age of Cybertron.

"But what even is alchemy?" Good question! How did you get into my house! Anyway! European Alchemy arose in a time when ppl were getting real nerdy about scientific discovery and understanding the natural world, and people were throwing spaghettis at the wall from all sorts of pots to see who cooked. Alchemists wrote fanfic of Big Name Thinkers in an attempt to gain credibility, and copied the homework of Ancient Egyptian artisans who made stuff shiny and golden. Since gold doesn't oxidize, they figured it was an immortal metal. They also figured that all metals start off as 'boring' ones like lead and stuff, and over time mature into gold in the 'womb' of the earth (there's a lot of pregnancy stuff in euro alchemy it's a whole thing lol). In the pursuit of figuring out how to harness this, to transmute 'base' metals into gold, not just superficially but down to their very essence as a form of seeking immortality, alchemists would toss a buncha elements together in various ways. This actually led to the development of some techniques and equipment still used in modern chemistry!

A lot unsaid but don't wanna yap toooooo much :P I'm curious if u can see where I'm going with some of this based on the stuff I've already mentioned >:) like. There's soo many connections I've thought like 5 new ones while typing and re-reading this I'm starting to suspect there's a scene in G1 or something where they flash "THIS FRANCHISE IS AN ALCHEMY REFERENCE" onscreen that I blinked and missed or smthn

So you know the things like Megatron and Soundwave turn into palm sized gadgets, seekers are normal Transformer size yet jets are massive or Motorcycle Transformers are the opposite with their earth mode, and whatever Groove and Broadside has to do to Justify their toys? That. How do i make it make sense enough my mind won't go "Ummmm ackshualley"?

ah, i see what you mean! well,,, ive seen rescue bots academy and they explain it kinda well ?? they call it “molecular compression” i think. it’s where the bot’s molecules that make up its shape are able to squeeze or compact together to allow a bot to transform into something smaller. this could also work the other way around, where molecules making up the bot’s body expand, allowing their alt mode or bot mode to be larger than they actually are. do not take this as a scientific explanation, i don’t have enough science memorized for that. however i think it’s an okay explanation! hope this helped a little

I need advice on how to Justify mass-shifting on a large scale for certain bodytypes so that I won't be eaten alive by my own inquisitive mind

Well, I’m not sure how to help you there. If I’m completely honest, I don’t really know how that works for transformers…could you perhaps further explain? I’m sorry! I just don’t know much about that stuff….

I’ve been seeing so many people say that the 1986 movie is only good for nostalgia, and is basically just a toy commercial. This honestly upsets me as I’m a huge fan of the movie and enjoy it. I like the story, the dialogue, the animation, and the soundtrack.

“Transformers One will always be better than the 1986 movie.”

Okay and??? It just annoys me when there was obviously so much love and dedication put into the 1986 movie. And people are reducing it to a toy commercial. Sighs…can we just appreciate both? Why must it always be one or the other?

Only rlly got into this all like a month ago, since then I've watched most of the shows and am on the 2nd IDW collection, and just. Omg.

Idk how it took me this long to get into this series it's got something for everyone but its main topics are stuff that I love. Like, alien biology? Alien biotechnology except literally biological technology?? Philosophical explorations of morality, political ideology, autonomy, identity, mortality, disability, and like a bunch of other stuff???? AAND THEY'RE SUPER AWESOME AND SUPER CHARMING ROBOTS AND THEY'RE QUEER (coded(lol)) ABT IT?????

Having a lot of fun w/ the IDW comics especially bcs I've been snooping around at a buuuuuuuuuuunch of fan works and a lot of ppl reference and create for stuff from IDW so it was a thing of like, when u have friends that talk abt this one friend they have that u haven't met but they share a bunch of cool stories and say "oh you have to meet them dude you'll love them" and then you meet and they WEREN'T EVEN CLOSE TO BEING OVERHYPED???

AUUGHH REAL REAL REAL TO ALL OF THIS!!!! I really enjoy IDW because it explores so many different sides of transformers. Its characters, its wars, its factions. And, like you said, biology!! Their versions of nature, their versions of creatures!! Learning about transformer internal parts and terminology that they use for their bodies is SO FUN!!! I don’t mess with the whole tyranny thing either but you couldn’t have put it better with “coworkers who hate each other” LMAO.. watching them fight and talk and just live their daily lives as the bad guys…ehheheh ….

I LOVE the queer representation in IDW as well, as a queer person myself it makes me feel so seen!!

Political views, morality, disabilities, everything that we have being traded over to them?? And expanded and given so much detail? It’s AWESOME!! Transformers takes our world and creates its own, based upon ours. It’s so cool!!! The expanse across the galaxy, the different species, the character’s personalities and designs…I love it ALL!!

psst…i love starscream too…he’s been my favorite since I was seven years old or something…
