while i do think it was a little iconic of supernatural to point at their hugely popular incest ship and say "lame" in the voices of the characters themselves, i can't help but notice the underlying homophobia any time i think about the slash fans line or becky writing fic. like its always there like the boogeyman. they weren't taking a Stance they were searching for an excuse to be a little homophobic, again

~ dedicated to my beloved dean poetry enthusiast @soft-pine
Usually Dean getting more focus and reactions to the events of the later seasons annoys the hell out of me, but there is one exception. When they realise their whole lives were controlled and shaped by Chuck.
I am Not a fan of this arc at all, by any means, however I do like the difference in the brothers reactions. Because Dean is pissed, and he's close to giving up and he is rightfully distraught at learning that his life has been manipulated, that theres a chance no choice he made was really his.
And Sam just... isn't. I mean, yeah, he's not happy about it, but his response is a lot more subdued, he's a lot more accepting that okay it sucks but what now?
And thats so fitting to me because Sam already knew he had no control over his life. From being trapped in the family business by his dad as a kid, to his whole life being shaped and surrounded by Azazels demons. His destiny, his purpose as Lucifers vessel. Ruby.
Cause whilst obviously Dean had this destiny too, and was manipulated a lot in the lead up, they didn't touch his childhood, they didn't tear him down to build him into what they need like they did with Sam. Him going to hell and breaking the first Seal, wasn't even the original plan! When he refused to be Michael's vessel they just replaced him.
And then, even after Lucifers ordeal, Sam's life still never became HIS. He lost his soul, some version of him doing things he would never do, before getting his soul forcibly shoved back into him. Castiel and Samuel used him. Then he tried to go back to a normal life and Dean punished him for it, hated him for it, took charge on it.
If it wasn't a demon, or an angel, it was his own brother. Sam has never fully had autonomy or choice over his own life. Dean tricked him into getting possessed AGAIN. So then Gadreel had the wheel.
Sam spends his whole life getting pushed from situation to situation. Surviving crisis to crisis as people use him.
So learning that God had been fucking him over too? Thats just another thing.
early supernatural is actually so funny because sam n dean were dumbass twenty year olds burning gas in a classic car rolling up to crime scenes in five layers of plaid, a carhartt jacket, and their chippewa boots pretending to be fbi agents. all while frantically flipping thru their notebooks as that weeks monster attacks them
terrorized civilian: how do we stop it!!!!
sam, glancing at dean: uh one second
dean huddling with sam backs turned to the civilian, hushed: dude we r so fucked
Saw an annoying dean take so now I'm drowning him
