I think one thing that people miss when they try to position Azula based on modern society is that's she's not a product of modern society, but of a fascistic imperialist monarchy where duels are the accepted way of solving issues between people. Azula can hardly be called a sociopath or "born evil" when her actions are part of the social norm and generally accepted by everyone she knows.
