He’ll use the joke to play off how worried he is as he blots Stephen’s sutures with antiseptic. He doesn’t want him to worry, so he’ll make the effort not to. Instead he’ll smile, and run his hand down his husband’s face where it’s safe. Even when he’s bent out of shape, he still looks so damn perfect to him.

“Y’know, fox, with how many times I’ve patched you up, it’s making me start to forget just who’s the doctor, here.” Scott sets the cloth aside, taking gentle hold of Stephen’s hand after. Bringing it to his lips to kiss his bandaged fingers one by one. “You’re lucky I had a good teacher to talk me through these kinds of things when he got messed up, or else you’d be screwed, huh?”

❝ REALLY? SO YOU CAN CUT OPEN A BRAIN NOW? ❞  Stephen raises an eyebrow at him and smirks, looking entirely too amused for how injured he is. Stephen is used to this kind of pain; in a way he's not sure that the Avengers can relate to. While they protect the physical realm, they don't have their souls shredded on a regular basis. They don't have both their physical and astral forms beaten to a pulp. And Scott, bless him, can dress him up in bandages all he likes -- Stephen still has to heal himself spiritually.

But so lovingly does his husband treat him that he cannot help watching with tender eyes, blue warping into green as his head tilts, hand shaking in Scott's grasp. ❝ I'm lucky to have you, ❞ he amends, reminding him that patching him up is only a part of what Scott does that makes Stephen love him so much. ❝ Wong can only do so much. ❞

oh. charles stops there and slowly sets down the novel he’s been picking his way through, sitting in contemplative silence for a moment, “ i suppose if it’s him, i have no choice in the matter, do i? ” he says quietly, “ and if he’s made a direct attack on you, i’m getting involved either way. i don’t suppose he gave his reasons? ” this hits too close to home in too many ways.

HE WATCHES CHARLES  and frowns as he twines his fingers. Stephen doesn't want him to get involved in his business; Magick business. Even if it had to do with the man Charles had once been so in love with. It turned his stomach; Stephen was a jealous man after all, but he forced himself back into the present.

❝ He said I was an abomination, ❞ Stephen tells him, grinning sardonically. ❝ That I'm an insult to your kind. He wants the artifacts that're in there. But my theory is he just wants to see what happens when you mash up all the magick objects into some metallic monstrosity. ❞
