The beautiful country of Iraq is culture-rich, filled with a plethora of historic sites, and is home to some of the world's most hospitable people. It was one of my travel highlights. BUT... Protests have gripped the country recently, with more than 400 people dead. It is a tragedy to hear about such violence and oppression when only a few months ago, when I was there, the country was coming out of crisis and a sense of hope was in the atmosphere. Let's hope that peace prevails, corruption decreases, and the Iraqi people can build a state WITHOUT foreign meddling (be it American, Iranian, Saudi or otherwise).
