The project here was to design a dune buggy. I wanted to switch things up a bit, however, so I designed a vehicle that would forcibly cut through or rip across dunes, rather than a vehicle that uses suspension to conform to them. This meant making something with huge amounts of torque--alien amounts, even!
But, how could I design with this torque in mind?
To do exactly that, I decided to mix a much more rugged aesthetic (this thing has gotta rip through harsh sand all day) with high-tech, alien propulsion engine designs. The engine is hooked directly up to the wheels, giving the thing a feeling of significant downward weight and push from the back. I put Keanu Reeves in there too. For good times!
Mixing the scrappy aesthetic with a sci-fi aesthetic was a lot of fun, and something I'd like to do more of going forward.
