Drabble: ‘Look into my eyes, what do you see?’
There were hundreds, maybe even thousands of words that Margaret could use to describe Kevin. Too many to put together on a sheet of paper, too many words that she didn’t know where to begKevin to her was like the sunset sky after a storm. Calm, ready to continue on with life, letting people pass by with no stress. His warm exterior and aura, not too hot or cold; orange and yellow. His passion for flowers, for plants, for work, and for his music; red. His kindness to everyone he came across; pink.
Kevin was too much for her, too perfect.
Never did she think she would fall in love with a human. A human that shared her passion of art, music, and loved her for her. Kevin was perfect, completely and utterly perfect for her.
And maybe, the elf cared too much if anyone had any thoughts of their relationship, or of Kevin. She would defend him from any of Dylas’ harsh comments on how meek Kevin appeared to him, how weak he looked on the outside. It didn’t matter to some, but she cared.
Maybe that’s why she could never take her eyes off those deep chocolate eyes that shined like the morning sun when she was around.
Maybe that’s why as they sat at a candlelight dinner, in a busy restaurant filled with voices of lovers proclaiming their love and lust for one another, all she could hear was Kevin’s smooth voice and the jazz piano playing a sweet song nearby.
Kevin and his sweet, boyish smile looked up from his menu, his hazel eyes finally meeting her baby blue ones. “Is there something on my face, Meg?” He asks, raising an eyebrow with his question. Worry nearly came over his face, thinking that’s why she was staring. Not because he was her world, but because he was fearful of something silly. The farmer grabbed the napkin quickly, as the utensils fell out onto the table with a thud.
Maybe that was another reason why she adored him so very much.
The blonde just smiled, shaking her head back and forth slowly. “No, Kevin- No, there’s nothing.” Instead, she moved her hand onto his face (smooth, and warm. So warm in a room where she thought it was warm before. “I was just thinking- that’s all!”
“Thinking?” Kevin asked. “About what, love?”
“Things! Just some silly little thoughts!”
“Are you thinking about the music you’ve been working on this week?”
“Not tonight, honey. I was thinking of something else.”
Kevin’s face doesn’t fall into sadness. He doesn’t look upset that there’s something on his mind. Instead, he just smiles and nods his head, understanding his girlfriend, understanding that sometimes, there was just things on her mind. Oh, how lovely was he. Understanding, loving, darling.
The night was meant to celebrate them anyway; they both knew mindless chat about whatever she was thinking (even if he wanted to know, he wouldn’t say it outloud now- at least, the blonde was sure he wouldn’t now) wasn’t meant to be the focus. Tonight was for them. For their future. For every day they’ll spend together.
“Oh!” Kevin exclaimed suddenly, nearly making Margaret jump out of her seat in shock from the sudden noise. He smiled at her (that charming, sweet, boyish smile that she couldn’t help but adore by the third time they met) before turning his attention off her and moving in a little closer to her. “Kasey told me to try this on you- but it seems a bit silly so don’t judge me too much, okay? It’s kind of ridiculous, I’m not even sure where he found or came up with this!”
The elf giggled at him. “I won’t judge you, honey!” She exclaimed back with as much vigor as Kevin. “But now you need to do- I want to see whatever Kasey wants you to try. Maybe this time, it won’t be an awful pick up line?” Kevin laughed at that; his laugh sounded like such a perfect melody.
Perfection.
Kevin tried to stop, but the laughter continued as he spoke, his eyes staring straight into Meg’s blue ones. “Okay, it’s gonna be quick, but. Uh.” He paused for a second, keeping eye contact locked in place with his love. “Look into my eyes, what do you see?”
The question made Meg giggle softly. Silly boy, she thought. What did Kasey put you up to this time? What awful, little comment was so like his best friend- lame lines that made no sense. But as she stared into his eyes, full of light and love, all she could see was her future with him. A future full of love. A future where every morning, she would make Kevin coffee and they would eat together while chatting about their sleep. A future with children who would sit on Kevin’s lap or beside him as he patiently taught them piano, complimenting them for the smallest achievements.
A future together forever.
Margaret was so deeply in love with this man.
“Hm~ I’m not sure~” She sang out loud, a pink blush coming onto her face. “I think… I think I see my boyfriend in those eyes!”
That one comment, as silly as Meg thought it was, turned Kevin to just the same shade of pink as his own girlfriend. “Ma-Margaret!” The brunet stammered.
Her laughter didn’t die down, giggling in between as her boyfriend turned nearly as red as the dark tablecloth. “What, honey? I’m just being honest!” She teased again, putting her hand back down onto the table. “I see my boyfriend in those brown eyes. Someone who adores music, spends his time off doing what he loves and learning more about what his work. Someone who has such a strong passion that he’s just- he’s just amazing.”
“I know but-” Kevin bowed his head slightly down, whispering so that only Margaret could hear him. Despite them being in a room full of others who were so into their “that was just very cute. Very cute.”
Gods, Kevin knew how to make her blush. He knew how to make her feel like a princess of their own world, instead of just an elf. “Honey,” she began, only for her to stop by Kevin taking her hand in his and holding it over the table.
“I love you, Margaret.” He announced sheepishly.
A smile appeared on Meg’s face, small and sweet as she looked into her boyfriend’s- the love of her life’s eyes. “I love you as well, Kevin.” Kevin smiled back, chocolate eyes shining with that same love, that same passion that made her fall for him not too long ago.
He moved in closer and she copied him. Their lips connected, softly, under the dimly lit restaurant, full of lovers sharing kisses, whispers of love, and announcements. Even in a crowded room, all she wanted was Kevin. Kevin’s touch, his love, his voice to be the only sound other than music that she could hear.
If only she could be human and stay with him forever.
