@trent-lawrence
Girl: Why don't you forget about her? You can have me instead.
Trent: Why don't you forget about your arms and legs? What about your eyes? Can you forget about those? Your hair is dry-rotted fishing line compared to hers. She was the moon and the stars, and you're a fucking bug lamp. You look at me like you wanna fuck me, like you just want to know what it feels like to unbutton my pants and slide my shirt off. She looked at me like the world depended on my existence, like I could be the only one to save the day. She made me feel like I wasn't worthless, and all you can do is reaffirm the fact that I AM worthless, because you're here and she isn't.
call, trent + gretchen
Gretchen: [blushes and shakes her head 'no' even though he can't see] I wouldn't dream of passing out if there's a chance I get to see you again. Did you have anything in mind?
Trent: [paces] Yeah? [smiles down to his feet] Well... hooow abooout... dinner? There's a nice new place in town, we could try it out? And if it's bad, we can skip out. [grins; joking, sort of]
call, trent + gretchen
Gretchen: [starts her car and switches the phone to her other ear and holds it with her shoulder] I'm just leaving work, actually. [she chuckles playfully] You've always had impeccable timing.
Trent: [grins to himself, standing up] Shit man, I'm still good. This is a talent that'll never die. [laughs a bit before sobering up] So I've been missin' your voice. And your face, actually. Maybe a little more than your voice... [chews on his lower lip] But yeah, if you're not plannin' on passing out once you get home, I'd like to see you.
call, trent + gretchen
Gretchen: [looks down at her caller id and smiles to herself before climbing into her car after just getting off of work] Hey you.
Trent: [immediately sits up, breaking out into a wide grin] Hey! [clearly excited] What're you doin'? Are you busy?
call, trent + gretchen
Trent: [laying on his dorm bed, he found Gretchen's number in his phone's contacts and hit 'call', waiting impatiently as the other line rang]
I think today is a perfect baking day
There’s the spirit.
The free cinnamon buns should make up for it though. And also every third Friday of the month you can get whatever other baked good your little heart desires.
I think they will. Ain't nothin' like free food. Oh yeah? What about a discount on other things? Whole cakes and stuff? -- wait, shit, better stop, don't wanna suffer death by sugar before my time.
I think today is a perfect baking day
With me as your mentor, poison is the farthest thing from a possibility. But if she can put up with Chips Ahoy, then so be it.
Hey, family always comes first. It’s written somewhere in the rules of acceptance speeches and live broadcast shout outs.
I guess I can try.
Yeah, yeah, I get it. I've seen enough award shows, and I had to sit through my own high school graduation, so I know how the show goes. Doesn't make it any more fair, though.
I think today is a perfect baking day
B-buy her cookies? Instead of making them from scratch? When you can put love and affection in each and every one you make? Sure. Buy the cookies instead.
Well of course, but you’d come after Zoe, and my Mom and Dad. And possibly the guy I might be seeing and or married to when it happens. I’m sure free cinnamon buns can be arranged.
... yeah? I-- whoa. Look, I might poison 'em. I'd rather her be disappointed in Chips Ahoy than to die on my kitchen floor.
Oh sure, because they totally shot you to fame with their brilliant ideas. But alright, I guess I have no choice but to settle for that.
I think today is a perfect baking day
Oooh, a particular love interest. I love, love. I’m sure that’s not the only thing, but it certainly can win points.
Oh I’m sure she’ll get plenty of scholarships. But sometimes the best schools give the smallest amount of money. I’m sure I’ll be happy at WNMU, though. And maybe if I do become a famous tv host, I can give a shout out to Silver City and the college and it’ll make things more interesting for everyone else who lives here.
Yeah... can't I just buy her some cookies?
Guess that's true. Honestly wouldn't know. You'd have to give me a special shout out, though, since I'll have been the one who put you on your path to stardom. I'll also need lifetime reservations to whatever restaurants you might sponsor, or free cinnamon buns from your bakery.
.
I think today is a perfect baking day
But how many of those other things can woo a girl through delicious cookies alone?
I don’t know, maybe. I kind of like it here, and WNMU is cheaper than some of the other ones I was offered at. Zoe will probably go to a really prestigious school when she graduates, and Lord knows that alone will put my parents through hell financially. I don’t want to screw them over ahead of time. Famous food tv host? Like the next Rachel Ray for baking? You know, I think I like the sound of that.
Well the only girl I'd wanna woo doesn't look at my cookie-makin' skills alone. ... I don't think.
If she's that good though, shouldn't she be set on scholarships and all that other shit or something? Either way, it's your choice, and at least I'd get to sample more of your cookies and whatnot. Yeah, exactly like that. See? I'm full of good ideas.
I think today is a perfect baking day
I’m sure by the time I’m through with you, you’ll be a master baker in no time.
I’m sure I’ll be doing the same thing a year from now. Yeah, WNMU seems to be in the cards for me. I got accepted to a few other schools, but nothing special. I might go to culinary school somewhere down the line, though. I’d love to own my own bakery.
Even if I don't learn how to bake, I'm a master of plenty of other things.
You should take the opportunity to go out of town. I would've, if I'd been offered one. I mean, if there's no other choice, WNMU isn't hell or anything, but y'know. Maybe I oughta get your autograph-- you might be one of those famous food tv hosts someday.
