Good mornin'! (Good mornin'!) This week, Emily and V dive deep into Multiamory March with a look at the 2014 invention of the TriadVerse, which is like A/B/O minus the A and O. With deep and evolving lore, a fest week, and an evolution into @polyamships @triadverse @polyshipweek's Multiamory March itself, the TriadVerse used ships like the eternal Don/Cosmo/Kathy from Singin' in the Rain to enchant both of our intrepid cohosts. @thisweekinfandomhistory I forgot to listen to this when it came out back in March, but I finally remembered to listen today! Thank you for all your kind words about triadverse and the FAQ I put together! (And yes, the P is silent in exactly the same way as pterodactyl, haha).

The fact that you got introduced to triadverse as an alternative to A/B/O was so interesting to me, because I never thought of it that way, really! It was about my love of OT3 ships and how I was kind of over the whole part of the OT3 fic where they have to explain their relationship to their friends and loved ones, and how it works and yes, it's unusual, but it makes us happy. I just wanted to skip to the good stuff!

The early days were really just me and my tumblr mutuals having fun worldbuilding, and then me prodding my friends to write fics about triadverse 😄

Eventually (and largely due to the baby I had in 2016), my attention waned away from triadverse and no one else really took up the banner long-term. I'm glad the polyshipping mods have folded it into their list of prompts for Multiamory March! I still write fics set in triadverse on occasion, and I hope more people have started using it since your podcast came out!

With the recent release of It Takes Two, it got me thinking about multiplayer video games in Triadverse. Even though people in Triads are used to thinking of trios as the norm, the fact of the matter is that three is an odd number of people to play with.

That’s a good point, anon! It seems like maybe video games in Triad Verse would be set up to be either one-player, or multi-player with two and three players both being widely-used options!

Coco Triad-verse

Okay, so I just watched Coco for the second time, and I’m also obsessed with Triad-verse. While, of course, Miguel will still be the main story, the backstory of his family changes.

Hector has two wives, Imelda and, say, Maria. He walks away from both, and they still end up making shoes. They tell the story of Hector running off with his lover, although they name neither. Hector, of course, never cheated. Part of his reason for returning home was to escape De la Cruz’s unwanted advances. This adds a bit of revenge to De la Cruz.

As far as what this insinuates in our world, this shows an F/F couple successfully running a business and raising a child. A single parent? Hard. A couple? Very low success rate… but a gay couple?! That goes against literally all societal programming. (It’s accurate, though. Most Latin American countries are much more open about couples raising children than, say, America.)

I think Tumblr may have eaten my last ask, so I'm trying again. Will there be a Bang again this year? My writing partner and I already have an idea.

Involvement was fairly low last year, and modding a big bang is a big time investment. We would need at least a dozen authors interested before we could put on a big bang.

I stumbled upon this account accidentally and I really liked the idea of the Triad Verse. I'm rather curious about what would happen if someone wrote a story where there was a triad relationship that lived in a town ( fictional or not ) that consisted of Primers and that was the norm of this town. Would it be difficult for this triad to be together?

That sounds like a great story prompt! What if the town is really isolated, and somehow, the triad hears about how the rest of the world does things. Then they’re torn between being in their town (but outcasts) or leaving town and being able to be a triad (but missing their families). I like the idea!

I actually have a question involving the triad verse, what would happen if three teenagers got together and formed a triad and what would happen if their families disapproved of the triad?

My headcanon is that people are encouraged to form same-sex primer pairings in their teenage years, but that forming full-fledged triads before becoming adults is a bad idea. Encouraging kids to focus their romantic energies on same-sex partners reduces the risk of teenage pregnancy. Of course, this doesn’t work so well for kids that are heterosexual (narrow).

There’s also a growing stigma against staying with the partner you made as a teenager your entire life, though that wasn’t always the case, even in the relatively recent past. Sometimes these relationships can turn toxic, especially if they were formed when very young and the people in them change a lot as they become adults.

If a person’s parents didn’t approve of their date friends, I imagine that would produce all sorts of drama, similar as to in our ‘verse!
