...Of all sad words of tongue or pen, The saddest are these: "It might have been!
John Greenleaf Whittier - The Saddest Words
The gyring images of thought, As those of Yeats' songs - Images, like vultures, circle in my mind; Feast on my perception: turn me blind. Blind as a bat, but bats be free; Free from the confines of time, no dread. I am content in knowing I'm - I'm not yet blind, but soon will be, Like the bats, when I am dead. Hush the restless thoughts with the mundane. The Mind at large is but just playing games. Although I cannot sleep, (Or sleep but all too much), No need to cry, no reason to complain. I take a breath, release a sigh. When life is plain, nothing to lose, but all to gain. The gyring images of thought Circle in my head, I cannot sleep. And then, as if from dream when I awake, Know I am content; Don't lose your sleep, or cry, and please don't weep.

The Scientific Power of Music
Here’s a concise little video about music acting on the brain like a drug because it affects dopamine levels. I wonder, though, how this factors into repeated listening. I’m sure everyone has different thresholds, but there are only so many times I can listen to a particular piece before its effect on me lessens considerably and I have to search for something else (either something new, or something I haven’t heard for a long time). Unlike a chemical substance, which may have the same effect with each use, I wonder why the music we listen to must always be something new to be most enjoyable.
↬ Brain Pickings
Congenital amusia is the fancy term for tone-deafness. It’s a genuine condition that affects around 4% of the population and is intriguing to cognitive musicologists as it’s associated with how the brain processes sound. It may also be of interest to linguists because of its potential effects on understanding tonal languages. However, an equally interesting but apparently far rarer condition is congenital beat-deafness which, as the name suggests, renders people incapable of recognising and following musical rhythms. As I understand it, not much work has been done on the disorder - if it’s genuine - but the link above has some interesting information on preliminary research into it.
"The healing effects of music proven in tests"
Laying on my bed listening to Pink Floyd, Crazy diamond, won't you shine a light on me? Spark a light on what will become of me! Here I am lost and confused, With a pen in hand drinking Czechoslovakian booze. Trying to figure out who I am, who I'll be. Sadly, things aren't always clear to me, It's hard to see Whether I'm right or wrong But it's all good 'cuz my soul's put to rest by the riffs of this song. I can always move on, Just chase at my dreams, Don't stop, but look back, Never forget, but don't let your past attack At you're future, because then you'll regret. Never regret, never regret, but learn! If you don't step in the same pile of shit twice You won't be in psychological burn. No concerns, except those in front of you, It's ok to glance back, as long as you gaze ahead of you.

To morality I’ve sworn, To social norms, will not conform. We must drastically reform, Change our ways, and be reborn. For I’ve sworn to nothing more then to seek out what is pure. All the pain that we endure has a cause and at the core, If we let each other be, We’ll feel cured, relieved, and free. All for one and one for All We must live, love, give, not brawl.

Perception is conception, Thoughts manifest. Reality is liquid, Don't get obsessed With the mundane vanity, Search for calamity, Project positivity, Exhale and just let it be.

I'll write a rhyme or maybe two at a time but I ain't no poet not a musician yet but I will be before you know it I ain't a cynic, epicurean, but a stoic not a grown man, but far from a blind child a little wild, but I still got time I'm through with petty crime, opportunity there's a dozen a dime but for now I sit back and choose to be a dreamer procrastination's what keeps me an underachiever goals I make and break quicker than I realize I'm blowin' it still I wait for better days, smokin' dope my eyes are glowin' red at least I'm through with my days of pushing weight I can wait a long time but it'll take forever if my attitude stays nasty like 'whatever' change of pace the only option that I got still goin' writin' rhymes the only thing that keeps my mind from blowin'; keeps my thoughts a-flowin' boring is the life of one who idly sits watchin' the clock tic-toc at least I aint smokin' rock not wantin' to slit his wrists, or blow his brains out with a glock but honestly these are all excuses now's the time to Carpe Diem and stop bein' a nuisance boredom only comes from lack of act of doin' thus I gotta stop screwin'-around-a-screwin'
- Greg Khaymov
life is what you make it when opportunity comes you better take it don't mistake it we all have errors in our ways still, we need to hold on and wait for them better days there's no right or wrong, just shades of grays so stop lookin' back, regretting your old self that'll make your sight a haze your life ablaze instead try to move on, rejoice use what you've learned and spread the knowledge you've got a voice every negative can be flipped to a positive like a record's side B that the DJ pulls out his sleeve take a moment to breathe, think rationally no need to chase money or vanity but you gotta find a way to make ends meet this rhyme's startin' to sound like a motivational speech don't tease yourself and make goals you know you'll breach
- Greg Khaymov
'Is any of this real' you ask, 'Or is it just a dream?' Well let me let you let me tell me Things aren't as they seem Sometimes, although in silence, The mind will scream or sing Look opposite to violence And melodies will ring Leaves do rustle in the wind And crunch once they've gone brown The tree remains, a broken friend, But never shall it frown Start and end interconnect, Karma's circle doth project
