Associates right, it meant he had money and connections. She would rose a brow at him smirking a bit, something was telling her that he was going to treat them as a fun little project. Maybe it will be a short term thing, maybe they will last longer but in the mean time well...she and the guys will reap the benefits he is offering so generously.

Just as he was mentioning what he had in store, she already sniffed out the mini fridge and did not hold back onto grabbing a bottle of champagne, going as far as to pour a glass for him as well. "I aint that shy dont worry, not gonna say no to a lil bit of spoiling " with that she does dramatically flick her red hair and takes a big sip from the glass.

Fuck this shit was fancy......she better make sure guys dont drink all of it in a day.

The car sled through the streets and Vanya was honestly enjoying herself a bit too much. It wasnt too long when they finally arrived to the old factory they were using as a temporary rehearsal place. "Welp, you got me on your side mister Manager, hope you still got enough swag for the guys too " with a wink she would step out of the car and already there was an echo of drums, guitars and base coming from the concrete box of a building, the band was already deep in practice even without their vocalist.

Vanya would lead him inside while humming the tune already familiar with the song they were playing by heart. In one of the larger rooms that had some old machinery and improvise old furniture for them to relax there were 4 guys....all of them were the typical image of a metal band. Long haired, ripped second hand clothing, passion in eyes and sweat rolling off the foreheads.

When they did notice Vanya and the new manager they all stopped all cautiously staring. The first to speak was naturally the lead guitarist Nikola, his long brown hair was tied in half bun, green slightly sleep depraved eyes narrowed at the guy next to Vanya. "Is that the suit who wants to tame us? " he asked bluntly while taking off his guitar carefully letting it rest on the nearby wooden chair as she take a step closer.

"Hm, why do I get the feeling you want our souls or something like that? " he asked with arms crossed, while other 3 like skittish cats still remained on the side for now.

Malphas accepted the glass of champagne and swallowed it down with little hesitation, there was plenty more where it came from. Besides which, alcohol was one of the first vices that ran its course with him a long time ago. It did little for him now though he was more than happy to enjoy its effects on others.

Pulling up to the factory the car eventually slowed to a stop and the doors opened, Malphas casually tossing his glass out the door before stepping out. Once inside he looked across the rest of the band with a grin- especially enjoying Nikola's suspicion. He looked down at him and let him get his looks in before responding, "Oh, well if you're offering them I certainly wouldn't refuse~ Of course that might put my gifts for you to shame. But first if you will allow me to introduce myself: I am your new co-manager, Malphas. Lord or President Malphas if you are feeling particularly formal."

The disguised demon glanced to the others in the back. "And of course I have no intention of forcing you to change. Rather I am here to ensure you will not have to restrict yourselves for Boris' sake- or for anybody else's for that matter. Think of me as the means to be more yourselves than ever before." He glanced between them and settled his eyes back on Vanya. "Any taming will be strictly voluntary."

Once more he looked to the guitarist, eyes narrowing at him slyly, "As I mentioned, Nikola, I brought something for you all. Would you like to see?" He didn't wait for introductions to mention the man's name, he knew them all. Whether from Boris or from his own research who could say?

The factory was still pretty quiet, not because anyone in the room was impressed, mostly because everyone was trying to figure out what the hell was wrong with this guy.

Filip, the bass player, was first to break the silence. He eaned forward in the nearest folding chair, platinum hair falling into his eyes as he stared openly at Malphas. "…Did he just say Lord Malphas?" he was quiet for a moment, but then he pointed a finger at the guy. "Oh he's definitely a cult leader."

Petar, the drummer, immediately nodded in agreement. "Yeah..." everyone stared at him in surprise. He would just blink in response to the reaction. "What? Rich people don't talk like that."

Nikola finally barked out a laughter. "Thank you!" the guitarist once again turned to face the new second manager and their vocalist while she was still sipping the glass of champagne. "No seriously, Vanya. He drove up in a car worth more than this entire building, introduced himself like a fantasy novel villain, knows all our names before meeting us, and then says he'll help us become our true selves." okay maybe he knew their names from Boris, but he knew how their manager was protective at times...then again maybe??

Then Nikola would point a finger directly at Malphas. "You are either a billionaire, a cult leader, or a demon." his green eyes would narrow at him. "…Possibly all three."

Robert the second guitarist, who had been quietly feeding scraps of sandwich to a stray cat that had somehow wandered into the factory again, looked up. "To be fair…" everyone turned when he actually spoke louder than a whisper. The usually quiet young man simply shrug his shoulders and added. "If he's a demon, he's a very polite demon."

"ROBERT!" the other 3 guys yelled to which he actually yelled back. "What?!"

Vanya couldn't help laughing at this whole situation. She was still swirling the nearly empty glass in her hand. The champagne still lingered pleasantly in her system and, if she was being honest, so did the excitement. Something felt wrong about Malphas, not dangerous but interesting wrong. Like seeing lightning strike close enough to smell the ozone. Her brown eyes settled on him. "You know, most people try not to sound suspicious when they first meet a band." a wide grin spread across her lips. "You've somehow managed to make Nikola sound like the reasonable one."

That earned chorus of agreement among the bandmates. Nikola immediately pointed finger-guns at her. "THANK YOU."

Vanya rolled her eyes before looking back at Malphas. Because he knew a bit too much about them and she too doubted that Boris shared everything. And why did it feel like he was looking at all of them the way a gambler looked at a particularly interesting hand of cards?

Still Vanya remained smiling. She was still curious about few more things. "Alright, Lord Malphas."The title came out dripping with playful mockery. "You said you brought gifts.... show us then!" She spread her arms toward the rest of the band.

Nikola immediately raised a finger. "If the gift is matching robes, I'm leaving."

"And if it's a blood pact?" Filip asked. Petar looked extremely concerned when he posed his own question. "…Do we get snacks?"

Somewhere far away as if he had a sixth sense for the band bullshit Boris made a noise between a groan and a prayer.

That sudden burst of speed catches Annushka completely off guard.

Not because she cannot follow it her instincts and training are too sharp for that but because for a single heartbeat, the man before her stops feeling merely human. The pressure behind his strikes changes. The air itself seems to tremble around the clash of steel, and every impact against her blade travels deeper into her stance than before.

Her eyes widen slightly.

What was that…?

Not fear. Never fear.

But recognition.

The kind a veteran warrior feels when another fighter briefly reveals the edge of something dangerous buried beneath discipline.

Annushka braces hard as their swords collide again and again in rapid succession, boots grinding against the earth as she absorbs the force. Sparks scatter between them in bright bursts of orange. Had she been slower had her footing been less precise he might have broken straight through her guard.

Then, just as suddenly as it came, the intensity recedes.

Their blades lock.

For a moment neither moves.

His compliment hangs between them, carried softly beneath the ringing steel.

Annushka studies him closely now, her breathing heavier than before. Not exhaustion excitement, even respect. Her pulse is alive in a way it has not been in a very long time.

And strangely… warmth.

Most men praised her strength either with arrogance or discomfort. Some treated her like a curiosity. Others like a threat. But Hikari’s words carry neither resentment nor pride. Only sincerity from one warrior to another.

She feels herself soften before she fully means to.

The tension in her shoulders eases slightly, and the hard severity in her gaze gives way to something calmer almost amused. A faint smile touches the corner of her lips, small but genuine.

“You hide monsters in your hands, King Hikari,” she says quietly. Her blade remains against his, but no longer pushes. “For a moment there… I thought you meant to cut me down for real.” There is no accusation in her tone. If anything, it sounds impressed. Then her eyes narrow just a little, studying him with renewed curiosity.

“And yet you held back.”

The compliment lingers with her longer than she expects. She does not look away immediately. Instead, her thumb subtly shifts along the worn grip of her greatsword as she exhales through her nose, a rare hint of self-consciousness slipping beneath the composed knightly exterior.

“It seems the stories of your strength were not exaggerated,” she admits. “Few can force me onto the defensive.”

Another small pause.

“…Fewer still make me enjoy it.”

There's a brief moment in which their blades lock, during which Hikari could see the emotions in Anuushka's eyes. Surprise, joy, respect... She had noticed his fleeting 'transformation' there, which was soon confirmed with words. Hikari exhaled and stepped back, shaking his head.

"Forgive me. Old instincts flared up. I promise you, though: I had no intention of killing you." Though a part of him certainly wanted to... The darkness that he kept in check with his light. Though Hikari had mastered it, that side of his bloodline was ever-present, always yearning to break free to the surface...

The king sighed and sheathed his blade. "I am glad that you found our duel enjoyable, though I believe it's nearly time we both retired for the night. There is a great deal to do tomorrow, after-all."

Annushka watches him carefully as he steps back and sheathes his blade. That brief apology tells her more than the duel itself. It was not a sigh of weakness, nor shame, rather he was in perfect control of the power within him, truly admirable.

That kind of control was forged only through long struggle.

For a moment, her gaze lingers on him in silence, as though trying to look past the composed king and glimpse whatever storm he keeps chained beneath the surface. She recognizes it more easily than most people would. Warriors who carried darkness rarely mistook it in others.

Still, she does not press.

Instead, Annushka lowers her own greatsword with a slow exhale before resting its massive weight against her shoulder. The tension finally leaves her posture, though the flush of exertion still warms her cheeks beneath the cold night air.

“You need not apologize,” she says at last, voice calmer now. “If anything, I would be insulted had you treated me delicately.”

A faint smirk touches her lips.

“I did challenge a king renowned for surviving battlefields.”

With practiced ease, she reaches behind herself and secures the greatsword across her back. Only once it is fastened does she truly seem to relax. The severe knight from moments ago softens into something more human beneath the moonlight.

At his mention of retiring for the evening, Annushka actually hesitates.

Duty tells her to agree immediately. Rest. Preparation. Discipline. Tomorrow mattered.

But another part of her the part still alive from the clash of steel and the rare exhilaration of meeting an equal finds herself reluctant to simply walk away.

Her eyes drift briefly toward the quiet night around them before returning to Hikari.

“…Probably,” she admits, though the word comes slower than expected. Then, after a small pause she would add “Though I confess… it has been a long while since I have enjoyed another warrior’s company this much.”

The honesty seems to surprise even her slightly. She clears her throat softly afterward, composure returning in measured layers.

“But you are correct. A Sacred Guard knight who stumbles into tomorrow exhausted would be an embarrassment to her order.” she adds with small hint of dry humor there now.

Still, Annushka doesn’t immediately turn to leave. Instead she steps closer not intimately, but comfortably within conversation range now that the battle tension is gone.

“When this business is concluded,” she says, her expression carrying quiet certainty, “I would like a rematch.” A small glint appears in her blue eyes again.

“And next time, Your Majesty… do not hold back quite so much.”

Hikari could feel her gaze upon him, for the briefest of moments. It carried neither resentment nor disgust for the thing she glimpsed so briefly. In fact, the look in her eyes was almost like... Familiarity. Hikari was intrigued. Should he ask? No, best not. Not right now, at least.

The king offered a weary but sincere smile. "It would be my honor to spar with you again, should the opportunity allow. However..." He looked down at his own hand for a moment, deep in thought. "...I do not bring my full strength to bear save for the direst of circumstances. You are a powerful warrior, Anuushka, fully worthy of my respect. But you are also not truly an enemy."

He hoped she understood. Hikari wasn't trying to hold back. He simply regarded a friendly spar as a matter altogether different from a fight to the death. "Well then, let us be off. A new dawn beckons, and with it, the promise of a new start for our people."

Annushka listened quietly as Hikari spoke. For a moment, her eyes lingered on the hand he had been studying moments earlier. There was weight in his words not merely caution, but experience. The kind earned through bloodshed.

Slowly she offers a nod. "I understand." There was no disappointment in her voice, she understood the fine lines between his words. "A warrior who cannot distinguish between a duel and a battle is a danger to everyone around them." a small smile tugged at the corner of her lips.

"Besides, if I wished to see your full strength, I suspect I would need to become something far more troublesome than a sparring partner." that mere thought was oddly amusing to her. She offered him a respectful inclination of her head before turning toward the camp.

"Rest well, King Hikari. I look forward to our next meeting of blades." With that, the Sacred Guard knight departed into the night.

The following days passed swiftly.

A new dawn became many.

The work awaiting them proved relentless. Villages required aid. Roads required securing. Trade disputes, monster sightings, escorts, patrols each task seemed to birth three more in its place. Though their paths crossed from time to time, opportunities for another duel never quite materialized.

During those times, there were rumors spreading about. At first they were dismissed as little more than frightened gossip. Merchant caravans vanishing without a trace. Entire stretches of desert road rendered impassable overnight. Travelers speaking of dunes that moved against the wind. And always the same name whispered around campfires.

The Lord of the Sands.

There were various claims about it some said it was a powerful monsters, others said a God awakened from ancient age. Whatever the truth, the reports became impossible to ignore.

So finally the King and the Knight had a chance to venture into another battle once more.

The desert sun beat mercilessly overhead. Heat shimmered across an endless sea of golden dunes as Annushka adjusted the cloth around her neck and scanned the horizon from atop a rocky outcropping. Days had passed since she and Hikari had followed the trail into the wastelands. Most leads had ended in half-buried ruins, abandoned campsites, and frightened witnesses.

Until this day.....

The knight crouched beside a massive groove carved through the sand. It was wider than a wagon....much too wider. Her gauntleted fingers brushed the edge of the trench. It felt freshly dug, almost recently. The sand beneath her boots trembled faintly, Annushka slowly rose to her feet.

"...Hikari." For perhaps the first time since entering the desert, her voice carried genuine concern. Blue eyes followed the trench as it vanished over the next dune. "I believe we have found it."

The ground trembled once again, far stronger this time. And somewhere beyond the sea of sand, something enormous was moving.

Boris already has “I’ve survived 30 years of chaos and I’m still standing” energy, so his snack needs to be something that’s practical, slightly salty, easy to grab, and works with a cigarette break in between disasters (aka rehearsals).

Not fancy. Not delicate. Just reliable fuel for a man holding a band together with sheer willpower and nicotine.

So for a guy like that perfect match would be any form of Peanuts or any roasted mix nuts. Mainly because they are cheap, easy to get anywhere and salty ....can be eaten one handful at a time while yelling “WHERE IS THE DRUMMER?” alssoooo Long shelf life (like his patience… barely).

The young man raised his eyebrow as he heard the odd lady speak about a duck with a... spade on his back? Zuma been around for long enough to meet all sorts of people, from deluded to addicts, so this type of random question didn't really phase him all that much.

"Can't say I have." He replied, hands in his pockets. "Maybe I can help ya find it, where didja last lost the Spade Duck?"

There's a good chance that the lady was delusional, but a spade duck wouldn't be the weirdest thing to happen this week, so if it is real, Zuma felt bound to help her out.

The kid might have seemed intimidating to most, but being on the road and interacting with people from all walks of life, she learned that usually those who might look a bit scary are usually most chill one!

"Aight lemme think, so I parked mah bike at seven-eleven, left mah lil guy outside since I wasnt buyin much just some sandwich and water, then I came back and poof......no duck!"

A tired sigh escapes her as she ruffles her short hair, worry still clear in her face. "And the bucket I usually carry him in is still there so....either he waddled out or someone picked him....but who the hell would take another persons duck?!"

A snicker escapes her as she reads the letter, back at the Fallen Angel tavern, the noise behind her was muffled voices of various adventurers gathering and discussing plans. Something she left those with more patience to do rather than herself.

"Heh, well aint he cute he actually cares that much~" she adds with a hum as she glances over at the spear on her back. The Equilibrium was a tough weapon, something she found it challenging to master...but it was all the more exciting to learn how to use it!

Briefly she would press the letter against her lips as a small hum escapes her. "Dont worry handsome I wont kick the bucket just yet. "

She raises a brow in amusement the way he was belittling his chosen tool, a light snort escapes her as she would cross arms across her chest. "Sounds like ya are talkin about some grumpy ol' man or somethin' like it luv " she had to snicker a bit.

"Buuuut if thats ya tool, ya better take care of it proper if ya want it to serve ya well " she would shrug her shoulders. " I aint no sword expert but ey maybe I can polish it for ya if ya save my arse " a small wink is given, along with a playful little grin from the tomboy.

"Ah... no need. This hunk of trash doesn't need much in the way of maintenance..."

"Boy the joke is getting old..."

Fen was going to continue indirectly berating the old spirit, when suddenly a loud rattle was heard over the other side of the room, behind some furniture.

Immediately, the young man straightened up, raising his sword to eye level. The way he gave her a look left clear he didn't feel the need to explain to her that there as, indeed, an unwanted visitor. Slowly, with the poise of a warrior, the young man crept towards the source of the noise.

Unbeknownst to either of them, the monster was more cunning than it looked, deliberately creating a distraction before it could pounce on the unknowing Frankie. It waited till the sword-toting youth was quite a ways away before it pounced on the woman. Its skeletal frame the size of a golden retriever, with long outrstretched limbs trying to clasp on her, and pull her face closer to the revolving door of teeth gnashing to eviscerate her face and head.

Screams would soon fill the mechanic shop.

The moment he took his stance, she fell silent understanding fully well why he was doing that. Maybe it was her survivor instincts, with most of her life on the road she was always slightly on edge ready to either fight or flight depending what sort of bullshit of a situation she was about to face.

However, the hair on her neck stood and it was that same survivor instincts that warned her to react fast.

When she saw the ugly creature that was now attempting to gnaw on her face, she was quick enough to grab the large wrench she had on her belt, and swing at it! An ugly crack was heard but she used that small time frame to make a distance and jump back away from the creature before it makes another attempt at her!

"Fucking hell its ugly!" she cussed while keeping her eyes on it, a small nervous grin tugging at her lips. "Ya really were not messin with me ....well damn and here I was hopin ya were just some delusional kid!"
