"I will pass." The answer was simple to him. Even if he couldn’t study their books well enough, He would cheat. He would do what he had to. “I aim to pass them, and I’ve never missed my target."

"Do it. Our arrangement stays between us. You'll see me again tonight." He didn't bother to give himself a name, or even further instructions. Not yet. There was still much to build, new paths to forge. He simply left, a quick stride carrying him out the door and into the halls where he again hid himself from all eyes.

It's the first day that he spends away from the lab holding the cube since his fall. Selvig putters along, understanding only a fraction of what he's been given to study, overly cautious for a scholar, almost wary. Loki shadows the Director of SHIELD and his many right hands. Hill, Coulson, others. He whispers to them too, carefully plants new and gentle understanding of what they need.

It's the Hawk that he puts there, changing their thoughts of him by degrees so that he is elevated in their need. It gains the man privilege, access to more and better, and the slowly forming option to be more than a hired gun.

As promised, he's in the man's barrack's waiting when he returns that night.

Loki saw the blade and reacted quickly, pushing his twin down and restraining his arms. “A good attempt." He purred, straddling the other’s chest in order to hold down his shoulders whilst he pulled a blade of his own from within the folds of his clothing. “Want to play?" He grinned, tracing the knife against the god’s pale neck.

Loki's only answer was to bare his throat all the more, arching it enough that it would press into the metal held there. "Are you deaf? I already said, by all means."

Hawks sleep is healing and cold, calm  comfort. Its the first night in years he doesn’t relive or reconstruct the hell that was his days and nights in prison.

When Loki wakes him it’s still dark outside, and Hawk turns onto his back. “Tell me everything, Hawk. Who you are here, and what you’re meant to do."

"I’m supposed to be their weapon. They want to train me to be an operative." He let his eyes shine gold for a second. “I have a mutation that gives me 20/2 Vision." He said quietly. “I have a talent for hitting the target, even ones that seem impossible, or from far, far away."

He took a deep breath. “They inducted me into SHIELD at level four security clearance. If I pass the exams at the end of the month, I’ll be moved to level five, where they’ll start  giving me missions. They didn’t want me to hear, but Sitwell and Coulson, they said they plan for me to be an assassin."

His habit of climbing through the vents and ducts had come in handy. He had heard a lot he was sure he wasn’t meant to.

"No. I want more than that." An assassin would be a handy guard, of course, but the pale god could not be impressed by marksmanship. He himself was flawless with an array of throwing knives, and until he could be shown otherwise, would make no note of anyone else matching his own skill. Still the wheels of his mind never tire of their ceaseless spinning. Thin lips purse.

"How likely are you to pass those upcoming exams?"

“Hmm?" Loki questioned, sitting cross legged next to his twin with a smile, tilting his head slightly. “Am I? Should we test that?"

"Test the ownership that you don't have? By all means, let's." The pale god's smirk was razor sharp, mimicking the silver blade in his right hand.

The pale god sighed contentedly, leaning forwards just enough to swipe his tongue over the hard flesh his hand was working. "My perfect pet." He murmured praise, sitting back and going away long enough to get out Clint's preferred chains. Not that they were chains at all, really. Just wide leather cuffs attached to strong cord that would let Loki position him however he wanted and make him hold it.

"On your knees, Barton. I want you sitting back on your heels."

"You're wrong." Loki answered, not hesitating to spit a bold lie. Besides, it wasn't much of one. The contract demanded he be used in bed, and where he came from.. well.. that was hardly ownership.

In the meantime. Who wants Avengers stuff? If you live in the contiguous 48 and aren't scared I'll ship myself to your door, like this post and in about two weeks when I get off my lazy behind [read: when the wife makes me] I will ship you a handful of stuff.

It's probably going to be stickers and candy and anything I can find with The Avengers plastered on it.
