I saw Annie Hall for the first time recently
It reminded of a homeless man I met on the subway
He had a sandwich board strapped to him, but he didn't have writing on both sides. He had two sheets in the front.
He went up to me and my friends and read his message, but in order to read the second sheet, he had to pull the first sheet up over his face, There wasn't even that much written on the second sheet. There was about a sentence and a half.
When the train arrived we quickly made moves to not be on the same car as that guy. But one stop in, he moved over to our car. He had his sights on us, starting walking towards us... But he lost track, staring out the windows; he was watching at his rapid passage through the intestines of the city. Riding through the tracts and tubes of a larger entity that we maintain for the sake of creating a cultural hub, we cling to the automation because it's send us to where we can drink overpriced beer and eat regularly priced pizza. Manhattan was very successful at draining my finances.
If I had run into that man I night later, I would've likely engaged him, as a great deal of unidentified psychedelic substance found its way into my body that night. I was knocked unconscious in-between bands at the Webster Hall.
Covered in sweat, I peeled off the various layers I had neglected to remove upon entry. Fuck coat check, I'll just watch my own shit. They didn't bother asking me to leave, because I craftily blamed my condition on low blood sugar. And my friend who came with corroborated that story.
Gerard Way proceeded to not play any of those classic My Chemical Romance songs. The ones I would scream in my room during middle school. And High School. And College. It didn't matter though. His hair was dyed pink, and I had seen My Chemical Romance play before.
But anyway, Annie Hall reminded me of that homeless man on the subway, who was trying really hard to tell me something, and I got what he was saying, but I would probably would've liked it more if I was high.
