We could spend days looking at the hundreds of faces in Brian Butler’s epic SXSW Show Drawn zine.

If Brian Butler isn’t already on your radar, here’s the deal: Brian live-draws shows, brilliantly illustrating bands and fans with his quick and precise hand. He manages to capture the feel of the crowd in collages of wacky people. Austin’s South by Southwest draws a particularly eccentric crowd, so these 29 drawings truly are some of Brian’s best.

The zine’s cover is a two-color screenprint on gray French Paper, and the 16 inner pages are high quality digital laser prints. The folded zine measures 9×5.75″.

Bands featured in the zine include Little Dragon, Dirty Fences, The Shrine, Power Trip, DJ Shadow, DJ Sober, Trash Talk, Cerebral Ballzy, Donovan Wolfington, Mozes and the Firstborn, Liquor Store, Cherry Glazerr, Machine Drum, Bent Shapes, Black Lips and more!

The first night of our (free and open to the public) Trifecta: Year One event stars the immense talents of Nick Z, Matthew Zaremba and Cyrille Conan as they paint our performance stage. We love the work of all three of these artists—Nick's vibrant, youthful dazes of color and form; Matt's sharp lines and sharper commentary; Cyrille's bold compositions, primary palette and geometric elements... We think these guys are incredible and we can't wait to see what they come up with! Their live-painting event will take place the night of May 22nd at Fourth Wall Project. AntiDesigns will be live printing shirts of their designs, made to order! There will be music, tons of seltzer, FREE BEER and lots of great art to look at, so you should stop on by!

We are pleased to announce Llew Mejia's print release with Trifecta Editions!

Bat in Guano Ball and Bat Harem are both screenprinted on 140lb White French Speckletone and glow in the dark. They are available separately for $55 and together as a set for $90.

We are so excited to release Llew Mejia's bat prints for the first day of spring! We had to get creative for the "signing" of these two editions -- Llew lives in Minneapolis and we're in Boston. Shipping them back in forth would have been cost-prohibitive. Instead, we invited Llew to send us his studio mark so we could make it into a laser-cut rubber stamp. Then, we stamp-embossed each print with his "signature" and the edition number. Stamp embossing (or watermarking) is easy! You just use a clear stamp pad and sprinkle a special embossing powder over the impression. After removing the excess dust, you use a special heat gun to melt the powder... Et voila! You're left with a subtle mark on the paper. Llew's prints are available on Trifecta. They ship with a certificate of authenticity that HAS made the trip to Minneapolis and back to be signed by Llew himself.

BATS BATS BATS

The more we learn about bats in preparation for our Llew Mejia release, the more fascinated we are. I want one as a pet, even though I know I shouldn't, because of conservation. But I'm just saying... I want a pet bat. Hypothetically.

Here are some truly incredible facts about Chiroptera (BATS):

 • Bats are the only mammal that can sustain flight. Some squirrels, lemurs and even primates can exhibit gliding or parachuting, but bats are the only mammal that has evolved, powerful flight. 

 • Bats have lived in almost every habitat on earth. 

 • The smallest mammal on earth is a bat! The Kitti's Hog-Nosed Bat, also known as the bumblebee bat, weighs about as much as a dime and has a wingspan of just a few inches. I hesitate to say it, because it's a bit cliche to say this about little things.. but... cute! Cute tiny bats!

 • The largest species of bat is the Giant Golden Crowned Flying Fox, whose wingspan can reach up to six feet! The closest thing to a gargoyle you can get.

 • The Little Brown Bat can eat as many as 1,200 mosquitos in 1 night. As we head into bug season again, this really sells me on the idea of a pet bat.

 • Some bats can live for as long as 30 years. That's longer than your average cat, dog or horse. 

 • While only a few species of bats sustain life by consuming blood, they don't suck it. They lick or lap at it. 

 • 70% of bat species prefer insects however. The other diets enjoyed by bat species include fruit, nectar, small mammals, birds, lizards, frogs and even fish!

 • A quarter of known mammal species are bats.

 • Sadly, many species of bat have gone extinct, and many more are endangered or vulnerable to becoming so. The main reasons are loss of habitat, but the rise in the use of insecticide (which eliminates large amount of food) also plays a factor. Bats are also vulnerable to disease. 5.7 to 6.7 million bats in North America have died due to White Nose syndrome, a fungus that affects hibernating bats.

Be nice to bats.

Lizmatic X Biggie X Trifecta Editions

We are very, very pleased for our latest release—the Notorious B.I.G. sticker pack by Lizmatic. Her passion is best described with her own words, so here they are!

The Notorious B.I.G. is my favorite rapper of all time. I can’t remember where I was or what I was doing when I heard him for the first time but I do remember this: When I was 15 years old I had no car and no license and no way to go buy the single “Juicy” that had entered my ears at some point when it first dropped. I am sure I heard it on the radio and in those days there was no running to the internet or instant download feature from iTunes. All I knew was that song made me feel some type of way and I needed to get it…immediately. There was no way I was sitting radio-side waiting to record it (another thing we did back in those days) so I called up my best friend who thankfully had her license and a car. “We have GOT to go get this song…can you drive me??” She picked me up and we sped down to the local mall and ran in to the only independent music shop in our humble little town.

“Do you have that song Juicy…??? And do you have Ready to Die?" 

10 minutes later we were back in the car and I was ripping the plastic off the cassette tape. The radio and cassette player in the car was broken so we rolled around town with a boom box shoved in between the driver and passenger side seats, face up on the middle console. I popped the tape in and we turned up the volume on that little boom box as loud as it could go. It was a gorgeous day, sun blazing, warm breeze, windows down…Juicy blaring as we took off out the parking lot. It was magic. As soon as it was over it was press rewind and start all over again. I think we drove around for an hour just listening to Juicy.

In the years that followed my love for Biggie only grew stronger. He’s the only rapper I know who can rhyme about robbing, killing, and stealing and somehow finesse the words to keep it light-hearted and in many instances downright funny. The topics he raps about can be heavy but the music, to me anyway, is light and just makes me want to move my ass…every single time I hear it, even to this day.

These stickers are a total passion project for me. I think any true fan of Biggie will totally relate and appreciate this ode to my favorite rapper. My only regret is that I couldn’t get to all of the lyrics I wanted to incorporate in this sticker pack. Too many amazing Biggie phrases and not enough space. Hopefully Trifecta Editions will allow me to do a second round of these…stay tuned!

We were thrilled to work with Brian Butler of Show Drawn and Ice Cream People to create the limited edition screen print Corpse Paint and Ringing Ears. This print features the bands Marduk, Moonspell, Inquisition, The Foreshadowing, and Death Wolf and was drawn in Brian's sketch book right in the middle of it all—the mosh pit of the Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
