Trying a new breakfast tomorrow :)
The Court of a Thousand Wishes
She rubbed her eyes and awoke to a tableau of color upon a plateau of trees, wonders, creatures in slumber, while above, through and under in this shining dominion of Summer, ageless feasting, singing, dancing, prancing through the flora on display, while beasts, predators and prey sit together like beloved friends, groups of old men in robes pray. A subtle touch graces her hair, she turns, sees a woman: tall, fair, impossibly beautiful, yet she is, eyes the bluest shade of hue as she smiles, cavorts past, shouting âat last!â to the grand repast, âa new mortal has found her way,â glancing slyly her way, whispers, âtell me, young one, your wishes, what do you ask of Fae today?â
This is beautiful

i hope youre all lying and hyping your cv/resumeâs up
i have never gotten an interview and not been offered a job position after it
I mean lets be honest if everyone else is gassing theirs up like no tomorrow and youâre being as honest as you can who th are the recruitment team going to be more interested in
Thereâs people working in my banks head office with me WITH MUCH MORE EXPERIENCE than me BUT ARE GETTING PAID LESS
weâre doing the exact same job role
the point Iâm trying to make here is if youâve handled finances for a company youâre now what i would call a treasurer my g, if youâve done admin work you are now a secretary (or as Iâve put Management secretary)
you help some kid with his homework? youâre a private tutor.
keep your bullets points for the job role as concise and important sounding as possible AND ALWAYS EMPHASIS THAT YOURE A TEAM PLAYER IF YOURE GOING TO WORK IN A TEAM.
go into that interview room and get your story straight the night before and remember that interviews are two way conversatons yes they might be grilling you but at the end of it make sure to grill them BACK. do you have any hesitations about my qualifications? my suitability for the job? any feedback on my cv? how long have you been working at this company? do you like it here? whats the work environment like?
I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS GET THE SAME FEEDBACK WHEN THEY GET BACK IN TOUCH WITH ME
âive never been asked those questions beforeâ / âyou were one of the strongest candidatesâ
throughout the interview emphasise that youre about progression, that you want more responsibilities than you did at your previous job, tell them the hours here are more suitable for me than my last ones were, AND WHEN IT COMES TO SALARY NEGOTIATION its all about continuity. tell them again that it boils down to progression. make up a reasonable figure for how much you were paid in your last role (do your research for how much the industry youre applying to or the role youre applying for pays, base it on that) tell them you expect more than you were previously paid. do not give them a figure. progression is your primary focus, tell them if youre progressing youre happy. leave it at that.
LIE THROUGH YOUR TEETH AND GET THAT MONEY
I had an interview yesterday, at the place Iâve been temping, where I busted out the âis there anything about my skills or background that makes you concerned about my fit for this jobâ question for the first time.
Neither of my supervisors had never gotten it before either. They had to think for a while, and then it turned into them telling me how great I am and what they love about me.
This stuff is real. I would also say: none of it is lying. This is taking experience that you normally downplay and write off, and putting it in accurate words theyâll understand.
Itâs hacking the capitalist system. Why ISNâT helping a kid with homework âtutoringâ, when the only thing missing is a paycheck?
Itâs especially important for anyone who isnât a cis white man, because many of us are so thoroughly trained to feel like we are not good enough.
Privilege tells people they can fake it, and that theyâre good enough just as people and can learn the skills on the job. Abuse and oppression tell people they arenât good enough as people and that even their high skills are probably below average, and that unless they had the specific job title or were using certain skills officially, nobody will think it counts.
The goal is to at least fake the confidence of a privileged person, to give the employer a chance at seeing the skills that youâve been trained to undervalue.
I would also say to answer any query of âHave you done [X small task] before?â with âI have, but itâs been a while.â Or, âI have, but it was a slightly different program.â
100% THEY WILL GLADLY WALK YOU THROUGH EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW, and I stress âgladlyâ because claiming prior knowledge boosts their confidence in your abilities and any slips you make are already covered by your caveat.Â
blackstoic may have deactivated their account but this advice is fucking gold and all yâall looking for jobs or who think you might one day need to look for a new job PRINT THIS SHIT OUT AND STAPLE IT TO THE WALL.Â
Body language is also a good thing to work on in interviews.Â
Smiling and being polite are good, so is trying to be charismatic.Â
Donât swear, donât comment on âbadâ things in youâre old job unless youâre doing a âthere were issues with the system/computers but we adapted well and managed to make a good thing out of a bad situationâ in order to enhance your skills and employability.
Donât slouch in your seat, but also donât sit ramrod straight. Aim for something more casual, but donât go too casual.Â
Try and keep your shoulders from raising up. Hunching up and sitting tensely mark you out as nervous and unable to hide it. Sometimes this can work badly for you if youâre looking for a customer service role.
If they ask if you have reliable transport, or âhow will you make it to work?â the answer you always give, even if it isnât true, is âpersonal transportâ or âcarâ. Doesnât matter if you carpool or get the bus or walk. If you say you have your own transport theyâre more likely to consider you for next step.
Another thing, sometimes they call you and youâre busy doing stuff and you have to stop and answer their questions. I had a call from a place Iâd applied to, one of many, and none of them had called me back so, naturally, I forgot all about this other place. That meant that I had no recollection of anything they asked me about their company and such.Â
Itâs important to keep track of where youâve applied to, when youâve applied to them, and whether they state outright that theyâll contact potential applicants or no one at all.Â
2017 monthly calendar printables
Today I am finally bringing you my 2017 calendar printables! I decided to give you a lot more options than my previous version of them. Iâve made three different designs, all with different pastel colour options. I was also receiving a lot of messages asking for my calendars and other printables to have versions starting on a Sunday, so Iâve included them too.
For ease, Iâve created entire Google Drive folders for each design (version one being the top, two being the middle, and three the bottom), then separated by their starting day. You can then chose your preferred colour and print! The files are in PDF form and feature all 12 months of the year. Click the links below to pick your calendar!
Version one folder Version two folder Version three folder
I hope you enjoy using these and if so, Iâd love to see them in action! Feel free to tag me on Tumblr with #emmastudies or on Instagram with my username @emmastudiess in any photos you upload. If there are any problems or errors, please let me know via my inbox.
Disclaimer: This printable is for personal use only. You may edit it yourself if you like, but please do not redistribute without my permission. Thank you! Â
social anxiety isnât just quiet people who are shy!!! i may be talking a lot but internally iâm panicking and punching myself in the face for every word that comes out of my mouth thank u
Same... And forgetting the end of your sentence because you made eye contact with someone seeming even remotely bored or uninterested. And slowly (or not so slowly) lowering your voice because you realise no one cares (even if they say they so), or because someone interrupted you (again) and everyone is suddenly paying much more attention than when you were talking. Even though you know it's probably just in your head... That doesn't mean it's not real.
Circus Tree: Six individual sycamore trees were shaped, bent, and braided to form this.
Actually pretty easy. Trees donât reject tissue from other trees in the same family. You bend the tree to another tree when it is a sapling, scrape off the bark on both trees where they touch, add some damp sphagnum moss around them to keep everything slightly moist and bind them together. Then wait a few years- The trees will have grown together. You can use a similar technique to graft a lemon branch or a lime branch or even both- onto an orange tree and have one tree that has all three fruits. Frankentrees.
As a biologist I can clearly state that plants are fucking weird and you should probably be slightly afraid of them.
On that note! At the university (UBC) located in town, the Agriculture students were told by their teacher that a tree flipped upside down would die. So they took an excavator and flipped the tree upside down. And itâs still growing. But the branches are now the roots, and the roots are now these super gnarly looking branches. Be afraid.
But Vi, how can you mention that and NOT post a picture? D:
[source]
I am both amazed and horrified of nature as we all should be
I love how trees are like âfuck it, Iâll dealâ at literally everything. Forest fire? Cool, my seedsâll finally grow. Upside down? Branches, suck, roots, leave. Whatâs this new branch? Eh, welcome to the tree buddy.
I need to be more like tree
I continue to fear and respect out arboreal overlords.
what kind of professor did these students have that they needed to prove him wrong so badly that they literally dug up a tree, flipped it and put it back in the ground?
Sounds like yâallâve never heard about the Tree of 40 Fruits. Well, itâs exactly as it sounds. Sam Van Aken, an artist based in New York, decided to try his hand at grafting (e.g. the process by which you attach the branches of a different tree to a host tree).
As artists are inclined to do he decided to push some limits and over the course of a few years he grafted over 40 different fruit onto the host â including almond, apricot, cherry, nectarine, peach and plum varieties.â
It has a fruiting period lasting from July to October and this is what it looks like when blossoming.
Shitâs tight yo.
Also we have a group called the Guerrilla Grafters. A group who started in San Fransisco with the goal of grafting fruiting branches onto non-fruiting trees of the same type.
Most cities have fruit trees that simply donât produce fruit because having all these would be a mess and inadvertently providing unregulated food to people comes with a lot of legal risks I suppose. These grafters seem to think otherwise and have taken it upon themselves to try and bring fruit trees back to urban areas.
HOLY SHIT
THE LAST ONE
Solarpunk as fuck!!
Reblogging for âI continue to fear and respect out arboreal overlords.â
I know I run a book blog so maybe this isnât the right platform for this, but girls: Please look out for other girls. Tonight I was stuck at a bus stop in Shoreditch circa 2 AM and saw another young woman getting harassed by a drunk, aggressive dude, and at first I thought, âSheâs got it under control.â But then he started touching her and I went âNo, thatâs definitely not right.â So I barged over and shoved him out of the way and said, âBeth?? Oh my God, how are you, I havenât seen you since grade school!â And this girl Iâd never seen before in my life threw her arms around my neck and whispered, âYou are an angel, thank God.â We talked for fifteen minutes, the creep lost interest, I watched her get on the bus and I will sleep so much better knowing she got home in one piece. If you see something weird happening, intervene. The worst that can happen is embarrassment, and I think thatâs worth the risk when you consider the alternative.
Every platform is the right platform for this.
Yes, always reblog. Also if you donât feel safe intervening call the police!

3 Study Methods You Should Use More Often
This was originally for an article writing assignment, but I thought âwhy not write something I can also post on my blog?â so here are three study methods that I havenât seen a lot of in the studyblr community but are definitely worth mentioning.
The Leitner System
Flash cards have remained one of the most popular ways to study. Some people use them to memorize vocabulary, remember answers to specific questions, or even associate dates with events. Although the use of flash cards is convenient, their effectiveness has been reduced due to most peopleâs habits of prioritizing each card equally and therefore spending too much time memorizing the information on them.
The Leitner System, created by a German popularizer of science named Sebastian Leitner, is a more efficient method of studying that implements the concept of spaced repetition. All the cards start off in one pile. You would first scan through these cards, then test yourself. Each card you answer correctly goes to a second pile, while those you answer incorrectly should be revised then placed at the bottom of the pile. When you review the cards in the second pile and get them correct, they will be promoted to a third pile. An incorrect card will always get demoted to the first pile, even if they had previously been promoted to the last pile.
The reason why this method is so effective is that you end up reviewing the first pile of cards more frequentlyâthe cards you donât know very well. Some people choose to review their Stack 1 cards every day, Stack 2 cards every other day, Stack 3 cards once every three days, and so on.
Once all your cards have been promoted to the highest box, study them thoroughly and then start over. The continuous revision trains your speed so that you may reach fluency, which allows you to recall the information faster.
Timed Memorization
The name tells it all: you memorize a certain text within a time limit, normally around five to ten minutes depending on your fluency and memorization abilities. When the timer starts, you begin memorizing. When time is up, you flip to the next page, even if you havenât finished the previous page yet. Continue until youâve gone through all your material.
Timed memorization helps you to discipline yourself because your brain thinks that thereâs no time for messing around; you have to do this here and now. Make sure to repeat the things you missed and revise everything frequently. This method is actually one of the most effective for cramming as it gives a better coverage than if you spend a whole half hour memorizing one subtopic.
The Memory Palace or Mind Palace
Sound familiar? In BBCâs Sherlock, the âhighly functioning sociopathâ uses this method to remember vital information and facts. A mind palace is a systematic arrangement of information, each detail corresponding to a specific object in a familiar place. To ensure that you really remember everything, the objects have to appear shocking and conspicuous.
Hereâs an example: if I wanted to memorize âcrimson, 11, delight, petrichor (the smell after rain)â, aside from imagining Amy Pond or the Doctor saying it, I would first choose a place, letâs say my school. Iâd imagine myself walking up to the front gate and seeing that the entire building has been painted the color of bloodâcrimson. The building would then rise as though it were lifted from the earth and crumble into rubble, controlled by Eleven, the character from Stranger Things. Now, since I canât really picture delight specifically, Iâd probably end up visualizing a colossal sign that simply reads âdelightâ posted in front of my school. As for petrichor, Iâd imagine curves rising out of the puddles on the asphalt after a rainy night, a visual representation of the smell of the rain. Of course, these visualizations have been created to suit my memory. (I wouldnât know if you watched Stranger Things.)
I used this method when memorizing case studies for geography, although I chose to visualize fictional places from television series and cartoons. Some people do opt to create artificial places, but these often become blurry and are easily forgotten.
As with any study method, repetition is vital to storing the information in your long-term memory. Visit your âpalaceâ as often as you can. Soon enough, youâll remember the data as well as you remember the place associated with the data.
So there you have it, three lesser known methods of studying that have proven to be immensely efficient. Now, there is no âcorrectâ way to study, but there are methods that can ease your learning process.
Hello sweeties! When I went through the IB programme, sometimes I felt so overwhelmed by all the reading, work, presentations and everything we had to do. So here are my tips to help you manage your time wisely â„
Write things down: It can be an agenda, a board, a calendar, post it notes. ANYTHING where you write down all the things you have to do. I always recommend planners and calendars because you can check the overview of a months and keep track of dates.
Make a to-do list: This one is just for the day. If you get overwhelmed sometimes (like me) about all the things you have to do, this will help. Youc an start with an easy task to get your momentum going, or with a difficult one to get it over with. You have to find what works for you and know your priorities.
Set aside leisure time: You NEED relax time. you know that right? thereâs nothing else worse than a burnout so set alarms every 30min or so and go do your favorite activity for a little while.Â
Know yourself: What I mean by this is work at the time that you feel best at. Work in a place that you feel comfortable in. If itâs 10pm and youâre tired, donât go to your bed and lie down to read your boring theory book.
Donât procrastinate: Seriously. I know this too well. Especially if youâre a perfectionist, all youâre going to do whine and cry about the work that needs to be done, but that doesnât help. Break down your tasks and start little by little!
Keep your materials with you: This is something that has worked for me bc some people tend to be late or class doesnât start at the time or Iâm waiting for an appointment, so if Iâm bored or have a little spare time, I can read a book or handout because I have it with me!
I wrote each one of these personally, so please donât repost. I hope this helps you, and remember to use your time wisely! If you have any questions, donât hesitate on messaging me ^_^ © freepic icon
Love, Yumi â°
for a lot of us, it seems nearly impossible to find a balance between our grades and our health. iâve created a list of tips and resources for managing classwork as well as mental illness. i tried to be inclusive of depression and anxiety as well as other disorders like adhd and bipolar. (iâd like to be more inclusive of others, but i couldnât find a lot of resources and wasnât sure what would help aaaa)
please let me know if you have anything to add, and i hope this post can help you out in some way c:
while studying
create a routine, and do your best to stick to it. having a consistent schedule can be a struggle, especially when dealing with long days of class or difficulties with sleep. try something more open-ended and flexible if you canât manage specific times. (studying for an hour in the morning and before bed vs studying at 8 am and 10 pm)
start with your favourite subject. there are a lot of suggestions on how to start a study session (and they usually conflict it seems), but iâve found that this works best for me. your favourite subject may be easy or difficult, but by starting with it, you get in the groove of studying and wonât get burnt out as quickly, giving you more energy to do your other work.
donât take on more than what you can handle. if youâre feeling motivated, great! get as much done as you can! but on the bad days, just do what you can. there are times where it seems nearly impossible to get anything done, but still try to make the most out of each day and do what youâre able to so you donât fall far behind. do what you can, when you can. donât overwork yourself so much.
during class
take notes. for me, the easiest way to lose track during a class is if i donât write or doodle. even if the material doesnât seem important, write it down! it may be useful later, and itâll keep your mind from wandering during lecture. (that being said, donât always write things exactly as the teacher says; putting it into your own words can make it easier to remember and understand)
record lecture audio. if you canât copy everything down in time, or if for whatever reason you need to know something verbatim, then youâll have something to listen to again later.
take pics of what the instructor writes on the board. similar to the above tip, you can refer back to the pictures you took. just donât forget about them! write yourself a note or make an alarm on your phone to remind you that thereâs more material to review. donât be the kid who takes pictures during the whole lecture but never writes anything, that kidâs obnoxious and gets bad grades
stay focused. i fidget a lot with my hands and feet, especially during a long lecture or study session. i find that keeping my hand on my pen/pencil is the simplest way to keep my mind on track, but fidget toys may help you as well. most teachers and students are fine with it as long as itâs not too disruptive.
at home
keep track of medication. ngl i am suuuper forgetful when it comes to medication :â) if youâre forgetful too, leave yourself as many reminders as you can. set alarms, write notes, or have someone else keep you accountable if youâre living with a parent or roommate. having routine helps here as well, especially if you take meds multiple times a day.
communicate regularly with your doctor. if youâre living away from home, or just a busy student, it can be particularly difficult to make appointments. but you should still make an effort to email your doctor, therapist, etc. at least once a month, and more often if youâre currently changing or adjusting medications.
âcatching upâ on sleep is a myth. depriving yourself of sleep during the week and then sleeping in on the weekends wonât fix your sleep schedule, sadly. keep it consistent if you can. even if youâre staying up late and sleeping in, try to get at least 7-8 hours. whether itâs 12-8 am or 2-10 am, itâs a reasonable amount for getting through the day. sleeping too little can leave you tired and grumpy in the morning, but sleeping too much can also leave you groggy, sluggish, and unproductive for the rest of the day.
eat something healthy. okay, no one can eat healthy all the time, and i donât expect you to. i certainly donât expect myself to lol. but we can still find a healthy snack or meal to make a part of our lives. sometimes fruit is the best comfort food tbh. here are a few simple snacks that you could try, for studying or for whatever else. i personally enjoy anything with berries, especially yogurt parfait or oatmeal.
have a support system. it helps so much to have someone you can talk to when youâre not feeling well or in need of encouragement. it can be a friend, a parent, a sibling, your significant other, or even other members of the studyblr community! (if you donât have anyone to talk to, please talk to me!! i am here for you my friendo)
other stuff
community college by @universi-tea - if youâre worried about moving into dorms or away from home (or are simply unable to), i strongly encourage you to try out community college. itâs made schooling much more enjoyable and accessible for me and i think everyone should give it a chance. plus itâs waaay cheaper.
also, most (if not all) U.S. schools have a disability services department; this applies to both physical and mental illnesses. talking to them for the first time can be nerve-wracking, but in the long run itâs completely worth it. teachers and staff want to help you! but you have to help yourself a lil bit too. accommodations may include leniency about attendance and deadlines, or they may let you take exams on earlier or later dates with fewer students present. the flexibility with deadlines has saved my ass more than once tbh
things to do when things donât feel right by @affectionsuggestions - sometimes itâs okay to just do small things, and sometimes itâs okay to not do anything at all.
ways to start feeling again by @urbanthropologie - similar to above, but with a focus on mindfulness (helps with anxiety, dissociation, etc)
my mental illness tag - this has many other resources that are otherwise not listed in this post.
my printables tag! - printables are great for when youâre too tired or not sure how to write things out completely by hand. there are some planners and calendars as well as gratitude logs, habit trackers, etc.
i have tons of other tags listed here if you need anything more specific :>
thank you for reading! i hope you found some of these tips helpful. i believe in you!!
