it's extra frustrating seeing people disingenuously refer to tme/tma as "forcing nonbinary people into a binary" when these terms actually let you avoid reinforcing those binaries while still having earnest discussions about transmisogyny. i am agender and i am not a man and i still do not experience transmisogyny & am in a position to benefit from it, it is incredibly useful to have terms to denote this kind of positionality without having to inaccurately refer to my gender identity

Montana Supreme Court Rules Its Constitution Entirely Protects Trans Citizens In Landmark Ruling

In legal terms, a suspect class is a group that has historically faced such severe discrimination that any law targeting them must meet the highest level of judicial scrutiny to survive—the same standard applied to laws that discriminate on the basis of race. [...] The practical effect is sweeping: any Montana law that singles out transgender people will now face strict scrutiny, meaning the state must prove the law serves a compelling interest and is narrowly tailored to achieve it—a standard that laws almost never survive.

My fiance and I (already struggling to keep our phones on) are both going to be going through major surgery sometime in the future, which is a huge deal for a few reasons. The surgeries themselves are both gender affirming and will address serious long-suffered health issues. But we have such severe allergies that hospitals generally cannot feed us full meals without killing us. (ask me more about this, I would love an opportunity to scream about it)

In the past, a week in this hospital has cost us $300 for both of us to get food we can actually prepare and eat in a hospital room. We are looking at some insane upcoming costs, even if our insurance covers everything directly related to the surgery, because it absolutely won't cover the food costs.

oh, and I'm going through a cancer scare, waiting on a biopsy. Just totally separate from all this, so yknow. Sort of bracing for things to get worse.

Thousands of Albanians protested Tuesday against a coastal tourism complex allegedly linked to US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. People are having surgeries, for which they were on waitlists for years, suddenly cancelled. Hormones no longer covered, their clinicians no longer able to prescribe them. Considering in some states Catholic-owned healthcare organizations make up to a third of the market, as it were, this is a HUGE issue.

Every serious climate scientist agrees that there is no such as thing as too late, just as there is no such thing as too early. We should have done a lot more than we have to fight climate change, and the world will suffer for our inaction, but there is no point of no return. We can always work to reduce the amount of suffering that occurs, and eventually turn things around to the point where our planet is healing once again. Do not believe anyone who says it's "too late".
