I hope they pirated Minecraft on those computers. I think Rocky would like it
This has me thinking about Eridian accessibility settings/mods for Minecraft.
Eridians don't see in color, which is kinda fine for minecraft since the textures are all unique when viewed in grayscale.
But they're not used to human vision At All. They don't even have a "front", so even aside from the whole seeing-through-walls thing, any FOV below 360 degrees would be wildly disorienting for them.
I don't remember if this is canon to the book/movie or if it's just one of Andy Weir's headcanons, but Eridians don't have a very good spatial memory. (dont need to remember what's behind you if you can still see it) This means Rocky would probably need a map & minimap mod to help him keep track of where he is.
Im imagining Grace looking over at Rocky's screen and being horrified by his 360 degree FOV littered by several dozen waypoints.
Minecraft has some pretty good built-in accessibility mods for low vision as video games from 2011 go, including a voice narrator that tells you what you're pointing at, and they presumably pirated Modrinth too, which would give them access to some of the even more powerful low-vision accessibility mods. There's a whole community of blind Minecraft players!
I'm not going to confess though how tempted I am to start learning modding just to figure out how to do a Rocky-mod. It's already got directional sound, seems like it wouldn't be that hard to just code very block to make a low-volume constant sound that would identify its location and texture perfectly to someone with echolocation skills and a theater room with surround-sound. I bet Grace and Rocky could code it pretty quickly!
