Psychic Suppression Force
Basic information:
The Psychic Suppression Force (Otherwise known as PSF or the Neutralizer Core) is a relatively new branch of the Alternian Military that specializes in handling incidents caused by Psychic’s in large cities. Though rare, a company will report to incidents in smaller nearby areas. Such incidents include but are not limited to:
Monitoring suppressed Psychics
Disaster preparedness
Assisting other forces as needed
Damage control in the event of a Psychic losing control
Over-voltage* events in Psiionics
Prevention of widespread damage caused by these incidents
Aside from when they assist other forces, how incidents are handled and what procedures are followed are decided on sight by the Captain or Commander.
Over-voltage events can only be handled in two ways: suppression or execution. If the Psiionic cannot be suppressed and/or damage to surrounding areas/trolls is too severe they are to be executed immediately.
Ranks/Company Information:
The Psychic Suppression Force is separated into individual companies/units, a city usually has more than one company. A battalion is made up of the companies in a given area. All battalions are under the direction of the Chief. Ranks within the Force are as follows:
Chief: Highest-ranking officer. Responsible for the efficient operation of the force. Has control over personnel, activities, and functions. During an emergency will report for duty to the scene and assume command.
Assistant Chief: Manage and control the activities of personnel in the operations division. They’re responsible for suppression and disaster relief, creating programs to improve and maintain the force, and assisting the Chief with budgets and such.
Battalion Chief: Responsible for creating work schedules and managing personnel, it’s up to them to make sure enough people are on duty (Must be staffed 24 hours, multiple chiefs per department). They also manage vacation time and sick days.
Captain: Highest-ranking officer on site, commands a company. Directs operations, speaks on behalf of the company. Oversees day-to-day operations at the base, training of the company, reports from the lieutenant(s), and makes decisions for the good of the company. Must have excellent management abilities.
Lieutenant: Oversees management of resources, direction of the crew during a situation, and personnel of a company. Supervises daily operations of the company and training. Must have knowledge of scene operations, try to be more educated than their subordinates. This knowledge includes landmarks, local maps, and even how to create maps of local buildings. In the absence of the captain they may assume the role of “acting captain”.
Engineer/Equipment Operator: Responsible for driving the emergency vehicle as well as maintaining and operating it and all the equipment for the company. A very technical position, they must be present for every operation and they may be relied on for creating/improving suppression equipment. In the absence of the lieutenant they may assume the role of “acting lieutenant”.
Neutralizer/Crew: All members of the PSF can be referred to as Neutralizer. It’s also the lowest rank in the force. Responsible for the hands-on actions of suppression and other duties. A Neutralizer may drive the company’s vehicle in the absence of the engineer.
Companies are usually made up of low to mid blooded trolls. Both Psychic and Non-Psychic trolls have a place in the PSF. It’s important for Non-Psychic trolls to keep up their strength as they have to rely on more suppression gear than Psychic trolls and the gear can be heavy.
There is a division for specialists and medical experts in the force as well. They help maintain the health of the companies and neutralizer, as well as oversee the recovery of suppressed individuals until they are fit for release. If a troll that has been suppressed is unable to recover they are to be executed.
Equipment:
The equipment used during situations is meant to cancel out, protect Neutralizers from, and combat Psychic powers, crew members must know how to use all equipment and use it with caution while on duty. With the inclusion of Psychic trolls in the company, it is possible for them to be affected by equipment if precautions are not taken. Side effects that Psychics may experience include but are not limited to: Vertigo, nausea, confusion, loss of motor functions, and loss of consciousness. These can last from a few hours to days. As such, Psychic crew members that are affected by any equipment may be barred from reporting to duty until they have recovered.
Misc:
It isn’t uncommon for Neutralizers to die on the job. Cooperation and training is key to ensuring the continued well being of a company. Likewise, not everyone can be saved.
Suppressed trolls who are stable and healthy may be added to the PSF ranks or recommended to another branch of the Fleet.
Given that the branch is relatively new, some of the companies and divisions may be understaffed and underfunded. It helps to have connections or to prove your company’s worth.
* Over-voltage-- Occurs for a variety of reasons. When a Psiionic’s power spikes or rises higher than the individual can handle, resulting in loss of control and power surge that is hazardous to both the user and those around them. The incident can be a short spike or permanent, both are treatable. However, short spikes must be treated as soon as possible, which permanent over-voltage can only be treated if the individual is able to be suppressed without major damage to their body. If left unchecked, Over-voltage can cause widespread damage until the user burns themselves out, resulting in their death. After recovering from an Over-voltage event it is advised that the Psiionic is monitored and checked up on often, as overwork and other factors may cause a relapse or harmful backlash. (This is just how I figure psiionic damage to the user works)
