Defeat was apart of the job, and Dick knew it all to well. Being a cop, and vigilante, he often found himself feeling rather disappointed by human kind often. However, that still did not cause him to lose faith that people would eventually find their way. In every case, the male hoped that he could help bring out the light in people, whom lost all faith in the world. The brunet envisioned the world to be in a better place in the future, and he wanted to do everything possible to ensure the better tomorrow, even if that meant being whatever someone else needed. He wanted to help others feel as though justice and freedom remained real in a corrupt city.
Truth be told, Dick knew very little about Peter, but there was no one like the male. Perhaps, no one would ever be like the blond man. “I wouldn’t have came to find you, if I thought I could do this without you,” the male added, “just like I know you’re not the type of man to give up easily.” He had stated in all honesty.
Nightwing was debating on adding more to his little ‘mission statement’ until he heard Peter speak again. A suppressed yet evident amusing smile flashed over his features hearing the words coming out of the male’s mouth. “Heroes are overrated,” he began, “ I’m just looking for someone who’s not afraid of a very large challenge, and who can roll with the punches.”
“I might-- maybe... just maybe... be able to help you, then.” Rolling with the punches was all he knew how to do these days. It had been years of rolling. The idiom ‘a rolling stone gathers no moss’ came to mind. He wished he could just stay put for once, put down roots, and live in peace, and maybe an act of heroism would be the way to do that.
“I need something from you in return. Nothing comes for free, kid.”
He had no idea if this would work, he’d been treading water in Gotham for months now, and this city was hardly kind, but it was a great place to become invisible. Perhaps with some resources rooted here, he could guarantee protection. Grayson might be able to point him in the right direction, even if he couldn’t help Peter himself.
