Man, I feel like I'm the only one posting tech stuff.
Where's everybody?
Drinking and driving
Genuinely I hope my dad kills himself the moment I don't rely on him anymore.
Wrong blog. Just pretend this is on theme.
Yeah I'll definitely be installing this later.
Gayest Desktop Environment?
Gnome
KDE
Cinnamon
xfce
MATE
Besides Gnome
KDE
Cinnamon
xfce
MATE
Yeah it would be MATE
Ooooooooooo, you want to be my mentor and teach me how to self-host instances, ooooooooo ~
This is dockers time to shine!
YES PLEASE 🥺
Did you actually want some people or was this a joke post?
Well, you see, this was my unknown sysmate and I think it was jokingly, but it was a half joke. But right now we really search for someone who can guide us, because yeah, we will try our best to archive something by ourselves, but! But. Having someone at who you can rely on or ask stupid questions is precious to us.
Fair enough. Do you have any idea of what you want to spin up? If not I could suggest pihole. Something to get your feet wet.
Of course!
Well, there's PluralLog app which supports federation and I want to try this out (Because Simply Plural is shutting down soon and I wish to share about fronting details with my friends). Also I want to get into Fediverse (I really liked Wafrn and Sharkey). Also self-hosted site for me and my friends sounds cool too. Also personal NAS sounds pretty cool for me too.
Genuinely for now have no idea how to achieve this all but we will try our collectively best.
Its good that you have some things that you want to try out. Its a lot more useful that what I do most times which is just say "I wanna do everything."
Looking around on PluralLog there is mentions of a docker relay but I can not find the actual config or image for said docker relay... Maybe they are still working on it?
Now PluralLog, and Warfn and im going to assume Sharkey are all going to be in the same boat with this one. Since you are wanting to host a service and have it accessible to others you are going to need a domain name, then setup the initial DNS provider (Cloudflare, whatever Amazons route DNS is, googles DNS thingy, theres a lot of them) and then setup a reverse proxy to actually be able to serve the website. It is a lot. Im not saying dont do that for your first project if you want to go right ahead but it is going to cost money and be a pain in the ass to setup for your first project.
As for hosting a website you can always just download NGINX and start writing a site in HTML and access things from your local network. I do quite enjoy doing that from time to time (even though I have to reteach myself it each and every time -_-). You can use docker for that, if you want to have something a touch more user friendly you can use something like ghost blog. It doesnt give you that feel though of just writing into a terminal what you want and it appearing on a website that I like but to each their own!
Now a NAS... I had to sit and think about this one a little bit. And as Im writing this sentence I still need to think how I word this. The easy answer is docker cant do this. Go to TrueNAS or roll your own NAS solution if youre crazy enough... The hard answer is docker I guess technically could become a NAS but a lot of the dependencies would have to come from the host system itself so at the end of the day it wouldnt really be docker doing anything... Just go check out @truenas-official. I use that OS for my stuff and I like it.
This was a longer answer than I initially thought I was going to type out so it may not make the most sense. If you have questions feel free to ask them. I may not be able to give you a good answer but im sure someone on here can.

*pats TrueNAS-official like how I'd pat my servers* Good OS.
*fans spin up*

How long does it take for linux to turn you into a girl?
It depends. Sometimes the urge to liberate your computer turns into the urge to liberate your body. Other times the urge to liberate your body turns into the urge to liberate your computer. And rarely the Ubuntu CD you bought gets switched up with estrogen.
Oh yeah forgot about the switch ups
Did you take a bite out if the CD?!
hungry
premade linux distros are overrated. make your own
