Shall we play a game? Let's call it: Who Owns What in Corbeau's Office? The game where I try to make sense of the items and basically headcannon a story to them.
Starting with the item that made me want to make this post. The Bonzor mirror.
I thought it was a real Pokemon when I saw it. Apart from the yellow eyes, the blue/green color really stands out against everything else in the office.
Why is it here? Who does it belong to?
Considering that Phillippe used to be the Boss, and his affinity with steel types, this mirror is probably his. Bronzor is a Steel/Pyshic Type. Phillippe is a steel specialist. So really not that out of place. Plus the yellow eyes do go with the other yellow/gold items in the office.
Some dex entries for Bronzor states it is an ancient pokemon that has mysterious powers. But the most interesting thing is people would shine Bronzor believing it could reflect the truth. Funny enough, the pokemon itself doesn't like being polished. But remember it's a mirror, not the Pokemon.
I wouldn't be surprised if Phillippe gifted Corbeau the Bronzor mirror. Almost as if it was intended to be a representation of Corbeau with its yellow eyes, mystery and intelligence.
Plus Phillipe seems to have a thing for gold. I mean the massive gold tie, the gold triangles in his pocket and the mega of his ace is gold. You can't tell me the Steel type specialist didn't look at that Bonzor mirror and think "Yup, that's the boss."
Moving on, this giant gold Statue of Kingambit. Another Steel type. A steel/dark type to be exact. Could be a representation of Phillippe's past self. I can't remember his exact words. But once you rematch him he will say how brutish and unrelenting he was before Corbeau. And if you read the dex, one of the entries states Kingambit is not skilled at devising complex strategies. It uses brute strength to keep pushing. Sounds like exactly why Phillippe handed over control to Corbeau in the first place.
This leads into the next item, the Shogi piece. And I have very limited knowledge on the game. But from what I gather it's a very complex game that is similar to chess. Which is the closest comparison given for a Western audience. But it's a different game, different rules.
The stand out feature though is that pieces can be promoted to gain stronger abilities. And who does that sound like?
I doubt Corbeau would buy this for himself. Perhaps it was another gift made in his honor.
This chair. It should go without saying who it belongs to.
This massive chair that Corbeau is giving himself back problems was definitely Phillipe's. Even with Corbeau at the very edge, his shoe heel is barely able to touch the ground.
I mean this chair is so ridiculously over sized I don't think Phillippe could sit back in it without his legs sticking up.
Finally we've reached the items that are definitely Corbeau's.
Its actually surprisingly easy to tell if something belongs to Corbeau. Funny thing is Corbeau is also a fan of yellow/gold. But what makes something obvious his is the purple accents. Cause of course he gotta rep the posion types.
Yup. Those sure are posion types. Sinnoh pokemon though. Well pokemon introduced in ancient Sinnoh.
A past connection perhaps?
I believe the most common theory is Corbeau to be from Johto due to his dialect in Japanese. But I dunno, anyone vibe to the idea that he's from Sinnoh given the pokemon featured were introduced in Sinnoh? Acient Sinnoh, but still Sinnoh. Sinnoh is still an area based on Japan.
Perhaps it's my Sinnoh bias talking. He could simply just like these pokemon. But I'm an over thinker and that's part of the fun of these post.
But if you wanna buy my headcannon that Phillipe gave Corbeau the Bronzor mirror as a representation of himself. Bronzor is also considered an ancient pokemon much like the others in his office with ties to Sinnoh. Corbeau being from Shinnoh or having a past connection to it doesn't seem that far-fetched.
