Historical photos: Chambers Covered Bridge
We were digging though old photos the other day and came across these great historical photos of the area surrounding the Chambers Covered Bridge in Cottage Grove, Ore.
We’re not sure who they belong to (bad record-keeping, unfortunately), but who doesn’t love old photos? The top photo shows the J.H. Chambers mill, which owned the railroad that ran through the Chambers bridge. In fact, you can see the bridge in the upper-lefthand corner of the second photo, which shows the area circa the 1940s.

Covered bridges take center stage in new regional publication
Photographer William Leach has a photo essay dedicated to Lane County's many beautiful covered bridges in the inaugural issue of Lane Monthly, a new regional magazine focused on Eugene, Springfield and the surrounding areas.
As you can see, Wildcat Covered Bridge takes center stage on the cover of the magazine. Also included: A photo of the Stewart Covered Bridge, the bright red Office Covered Bridge (the longest in the state) and a historic photo of the construction of the Hendricks Bridge near Walterville.

Link: Historic McKee Bridge is open again [Mail Tribune]
Check it out! the Mail Tribune ran an article today reporting that Jackson County's McKee Covered Bridge is open to pedestrians once again after an extensive rehabilitation effort that included replacing the roof and railings, among other things.
What's next? A celebration! There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 13 (annual McKee Bridge Day) with food, activities and fundraising for the bridge's next periodic inspection.

It's Squirrel Appreciation Day!
So apparently today is Squirrel Appreciation Day! We can definitely get onboard with this, considering that one of our favorite recent projects was this covered squirrel bridge up in Longview, Washington.
In fact, the city of Longview has a great fondness for squirrels; the yearly Squirrelfest celebrates our little furry friends, and our covered bridge is just one of the many squirrel bridges sprinkled throughout the city to give squirrels safe passage over roads.
If you see a squirrel today, be sure to show them some love!
Construction Update: Chitwood Covered Bridge
Back in September, we posted some photos of the rehabilitation underway on the Chitwood Covered Bridge, and today we have even more!
As you can see, construction is well underway, and the bridge's red siding has been removed (temporarily). Heck, even the floor has been removed to get a facelift.

The best way to spread holiday cheer: Light up a covered bridge!
Now that the holiday season is upon us, the lighting on the Goodpasture Covered Bridge has switched from all white to a more festive green and red. The animated GIF above shows how the windows change colors every couple of minutes.
Local residents used to take the bridge's holiday lighting into their own hands, stringing extension cords and colored lights from their houses to the bridge. But because of safety concerns, the recent rehabilitation of the bridge included the addition of cost-effective and safety-conscious LED lighting that will keep the bridge shining bright for years to come.
If you have a chance, you should definitely drive out to see it!
Mosby Creek Covered Bridge re-opens to traffic
Work on the Mosby Creek (Layng) Covered Bridge is complete, and the bridge is now open to traffic, as of Thursday, November 20. The bridge underwent extensive rehabilitation this summer to replace some of the truss members, place new decking, replace the siding, re-paint the house and add a new roof.
And Lane County couldn't be more pleased with the results!

Construction update: McKee Covered Bridge
This week, construction crews were hard at work on the rehabilitation of the McKee Covered Bridge in Jackson County.
This week's work involved launching some temporary steel support beams into place. These beams will be used to lift the truss and support it while crews replace parts of the bridge.
