I used to be a Mac guy. At one point I had an iMac, MacBook Pro, and an iPhone. Since Microsoft sent me their Surface Studio to play with, my Apple allegiance has been faltering. Special thanks to Microsoft for this gift. My goal is always to make stellar art and this makes it a bit easier.
Hero flashback! This was one of the first paintings I did in the series, and it's still one of my favorites. This was done as I was still trying to match the original portrait style. As you can see, I failed to accomplish this and just when with my own style. Someone recently asked if I'm going to continue making these or if I'll paint other things. Out of all my work to date, I like these the best. I love the concept and they're fun to paint. Feel free to drop ideas on what president and hero/villain you'd like to see.
Before I paint the portrait, I first mock it up in photoshop. This usually includes restoring the painting and finishing it in a manner similar to my painting style. This process usually takes me about a month; however it gives me a better idea of how to paint the image and what colors I'll need to mix or have on hand. I can also edit the portrait to fit the fictional character.
This was one of my favorite masks to paint. I like the Daredevil series on Netflix, so I thought a lot about the character. I've also found that I learn more about the presidents as I paint. Painting them makes me think of their accomplishments and what they influenced while in office. I'm not sure if I can draw a connection between Daredevil and an frying egg, but it's fun to think about him dealing out justice and yelling "This is your brain on drugs!"
