âââââ a science to it ? â june repeated what the other said inquisitively, trying to give him some attention, so to speak. he was only here to grab a big gulp, but came for a lecture on how to get the perfect slushie instead. honestly, june didnât mind. it was rather amusing because of how serious they came across about it â was this a joke, or is he genuinely being serious about a slurpee ? his eyes would go wide often, seeing him fill up the double gulp with the colorful layers. he tried taking a peek at the flavors, but he wasnât wearing his glasses . . . he left them in the car. heâs not driving illegally. his feet shuffled closer, and finally looked at the other in the eyes. â the whiteâs missing, but agreed. it does look like the fourth of july in there. â he nods and proceeded to grab himself a large cup. no way in hell was he gonna be able to drink a slushie in the same size. â humor me: make me one but in this cup . . . and iâll, i donât know, treat you to something else if i donât hate it. â june offers the plastic cup to him, knowing very well that heâd do it wrong somehow. â or iâll just get a good olâ dr pepper. â
gianna smiles when june turns around and takes a sip of her own lemonade, letting her nose crinkle at the mention of the traffic. " i'm blaming it on back to school shopping. pretty sure we're where all of the trendy preteens like to shop, so we're in for a real treat. " she picks now, but give it a few years and she'll be joining the other parents, rushing to get school supplies and school clothes for the impending school year. " no problem. it's the least i could do for being late. " she sips her lemonade once more before a soft laugh escapes. " i'm convinced we'll both end up circling the lot a few times. if we're placing bets, thoughâ i'd say ten bucks and a cookie from that gourmet place around the corner. "
ââââjune chuckles then sighed at the thought of coming face to face with the kids nowadays. â how riveting. iâm looking forward to being in the company of trendy preteens, but has back to school shopping always been this . . . chaotic ? â it was more of a hypothetical question, really. fatherhood was nowhere in sight for june, and that was okay. donât get him wrong ; june thought itâd be nice, but the window was now closed. well, thatâs what he believed. he takes a sip of the lemonade, then hummed with closed lips from quiet contentment. â shush, all is forgiven since you brought this. â a hearty laugh escaped from his mouth. â ya know what ? sure, ten bucks and a cookie it is ! with a good twenty - thousand step count, too. â june offered his hand as an agreement, proposing a silly little deal between them.

ââââhe wasnât too close or too far from the other manâs table, noticing that he was on his laptop, working on something. june was so close to falling asleep from being in his own world . . . attempting to decide which book he was going to take home from the pile he had on the table. so what was it going to be: non - fiction, fiction, biography ( never in a million years would he have considered it ), a good - ass mystery book, a manga ? upon hearing an excuse me, the morgan turned his head within the others direction. â yeah, of course, â he beamed a kind smile to the man, sauntering over to him ; june hovered behind him, taking a peek at the laptopâs screen, and squinted his eyes a little â he believed that two pairs of eyes are better than one. he cleared his throat, â that to me looks like a z. â he let out a sigh, waiting for his reaction, and hoped he helped somehow.

" there you are ! " gianna announces her presence, hands wrapped around two cups of lemonade to help beat the texas heat. she grins, happy to have finally found her shopping companion. " i forgot how bad the traffic can get out here when it's summer. doesn't help the kids are all going back to school soon. " the attorney hands over the second cup. " i didn't keep you waiting for long, did i ? parking was a nightmare. "
ââââjune instantly turned around upon hearing giannaâs voice, the corners of his mouth curving upwards as he noticed her hands seemed quite full â maybe something refreshing ? â yeah, the traffic is pretty foul, isnât it ? weâre kind of almost on LAâs level of bad . . . and, i truly forgot about the kids . . . youâre so right, though. â he honestly couldnât wait for when the little critters returned to school ; it just seemed less congested that way. the way he liked it. â thanks, gianna, â he appreciated the attorneyâs gesture, taking the cup from her. â nah, you didnât . . . but speakinâ of nightmare, it took me so long to look for a spot â how much dâya wanna bet iâll lose the car ? â
ââââit was getting way too hot in the steam room, and he didnât like it one bit. frankly, june doesnât do well in the heat â even worse if itâs humid â and it is quite ironic because the weather in willow glen can get pretty sweltering . . . or maybe he just naturally has warm body temperature. anyway, he was on a break, away from the steam, cooling himself with a pleasant, chilly bottle of water, and clearly perspiring a little bit, feeling rather gross. of course it wasnât a sauna, but it sure as hell was hot. â oh, i donât know â maybe, maybe not, â then a light, airy chuckle escaped from his mouth.

ââââfrequenting the country club was a part of juneâs routine. did he actually have one ? absolutely not. but no one has to know that. he is here every other day, and somehow, he hasnât dropped dead of how fucking BORING it was. june was in dire of need of something new in his life. the sound of the piano low-key captivated him. surprisingly, the melody was a lot closer than he thought. now a few yards from the person who was playing the piano . . . and a beautiful song at that. his focus wasnât entirely on her, however; june was on his mobile device, so lost in a tsunami of his thoughts. the sour note brought him back to reality, and he was just as startled as she was. the former skater flinched out of his skin; a soft laugh produced from his mouth, waving his hand dismissively. â oh gosh, noâ i mean, sure, ya scared the hell outta me, but iâm sure you reacted just the same, â he clears his throat, and proceeded to apologize, â iâm so sorry â and no, i donât even work here to kick you out. but for what ? playing the piano ? â
was that yejun âjuneâ morgan i just saw over at moonlight drive in ? you know, the thirty-seven year old olympic medalist figure skater thatâs been around willow glen for most of his life. people around town say they can somehow both be unforgiving and demure, but if you were to ask them, theyâd probably say theyâre more like a little sadness behind their eyes, lights reflecting on the street after rain, a bluntness that canât be helped, finding peace in being alone, and neatly folded clothes. the town sure has been rumbling about them lately, apparently they found out that his late parents somehow convinced his skating partner to purposefully sabotage his career, which led to his sudden retirement . . . but who knows if thatâs true. i guess iâll just have to stop by willow park and find out !

juneâs welcome into the world wasnât as grand as his life turned out to be. the orphanage gave him the name yejun . . . not his biological parents. but why did the name stick ? was it because he was reaching 3 years of age ? who knows. obviously, they didnât want him under unknown circumstances. not a single note was left with the abandoned infant. however, little did the morgans know that his life was saved; heâd never publically outright say this, though.
june was always known to be quiet and somewhat oblivious to what transpired, but a good kid overall. he was attached at the matriarchâs hip as if he felt like heâd be abandoned again. sometimes, you would think he would follow his older siblings around, like a little duckling, but he wouldnât because heâd invariably get distracted by the little things out in the world â too soft for his own good. not to mention the age gaps between them ( he didnât care about that ... ) ; the secret admiration was there, but always at a distance.
he canât remember where the aspiration for ice skating struck, but he loved being on the ice . . . and he was fucking good at it, too. his parents realized he had the talent for it. be it for achieving olympic gold or gaining praises, june didnât really know since heâd be the one training / practicing for however long he could go . . . with blood, sweat, & tears. countless hours at a skating rink would have sent him to the hospital for exhaustion. no, it absolutely did not; happen ! what do you mean ? almost happened a few times, though not many people knew. he refused and preservered every single time.
things would go according to plan, whether it was juneâs personal life or on the rink. he was in & out of town more times than he could count, competing and winning first place every chance he got. of course, he didnât win all the time. it should be noted that he was a good sportsman during his career, which was of upmost importance. parting ways with his skates wasnât easy . . . but it had to happen. letâs just say he was forced to after being caught off-guard by devious plans to have him injured. it was so destructive that he had not caught on too quickly. however, the way heâd fall onto the ice was alarming enough as it was, and the show had to be stopped . . . canceled & rescheduled for a later date he wouldnât even return to.
itâs been a year now. heâs been couped up in his home, but still reaches out to those close to him â heâs selectively social, and since it was abroad, he refuses to share details of what occurred. june doesnât know what to do, and with henry morgan, his dadâs recent passing, heâs just there . . . around. heâs mourning but grief is a silly little thing. what the fuck can a thirty-seven year old do ? pretend that everything is okay.
