There have been several times in my marriage where there were unwanted separations. My wife had a financially lucrative career for the first few years we were together, and it required intermittent travel. As a result, we’d call one another daily/nightly and complain about how terrible it was to not sleep next to one another. Since then, she has quit her job to become a nurse and hasn’t had to be away for years. We started noticing that even though we were happier for it, the drop in finances exacerbated other problems, which led to us being grumpy or short with each other. So, once we recognized this, we talked about it. We apologized and determined that we might benefit from doing our own thing for awhile. So, she started going out with her friends more at night and i went out during the day. After about a week or so of this we started feeling like we weren’t seeing each other. It was very similar to those unwanted trips she’d take. It made me miss her and i couldn’t why we had chosen to to things separately to begin with. Now, whenever familiarity breeds contempt, we do our own thing. We don’t even discuss it anymore. It’s like an unspoken agreement. I used to think that being apart from her would always be awful and i felt guilty for enjoying a break. but now i’ve realized that although we will always share a life together we will never share a mind and occasionally being apart is welcome, if not necessary. Especially over a lifetime.
Instead of saying “I’m poly” or “I’m in an open relationship” we could just say “I’m a dinosaur!” do a little raptor dance and then bite them (if they’re into that)

This is an excellent quote and i agree with it wholeheartedly. There are bound to be low points in any relationship, but it is a necessary part of growth. If you can honestly say that the person you’re with has changed you in a way that has made you stronger, smarter, more resilient, thoughtful or caring, then i would say that you deserve that person. However, remember this: a healthy relationship is a two way street. There needs to be a give and take. So if you are able to put aside your ego and objectively determine that you have also changed your partner in positive ways, i would say that your partner also deserves you.
A Short Intro to my Life
Hello everyone! I’d like to start this blog with some general info about myself and my marriage. My name is June, i’m 31 years old, and i’ve been happily married for 10 years. It has not always been easy, but my wife and I have yet to get into an actual fight. I think this is because since the beginning of our relationship we’ve had an understanding that we both have one another’s best interests in mind. I want only happiness for her and, likewise she wants the same for me. We’ve had literally hundreds of very serious conversations. Some include questions that are painful to ask like, “Do you still love me?” “Have you ever thought about cheating on me?” “Do you still find me attractive?”. Being a disabled veteran, i have unable to obtain a permanent occupation and have been living off of my disability and GI Bill. Because of this we’ve had experiences of financial distress and i continue to suffer from chronic pain and PTSD. My wife is also a veteran and she is a recovering addict. Between the two of us, we have a long history of physical, mental and emotional abuse. However, despite all of our shortcomings, we are committed to one another and believe our experiences together may benefit other people out there that are struggling with their own relationship. I intend to share both positive and negative stories about my marriage (among other things) and hope that it helps. PLease feel free to ask any questions. My wife is a co-contributor to this blog and will answer questions that i cannot. Such as topics relating to abusive relationships, rape, and the female experience in general. My goal is to help any and all who seek it. This includes all races, sexualities and walks of life.
