referentblood replied to your post “there may be circumstances in which it is morally...” aymeric and ysayle lawyer au when
that’s the ysayle-edition of ‘ according to all known laws of aviation , there is no way that a bee should be able to fly ’
there may be circumstances in which it is morally justifiable intentionally to kill a person who is morally innocent , threatens no one , rationally wishes not to die && does not consent to be killed . although the killing would wrong the victim , it might be justified by the necessity of averting some disaster that would otherwise occur . in other instances of permissible killing , however , the justification appeals to more than consequences . it may appeal to the claim that the person to be killed has acted in such a way that to kill him would neither wrong him nor violate his rights , even if he has not consented to be killed or to be subjected to the risk of being killed . in these cases, I will say that the person is liable to be killed . the rights-cased account holds that what makes a person liable to defensive killing is that he will otherwise violate a right that is sufficiently stringent for killing to be a proportionate means of prevention . according to its most original && influential exponent , judith jarvis thomson , this account offers a justification for self-defensive killing in cases that pose problems for other accounts . it explains , for example , how it can be permissible to kill an ‘‘ innocent threat , ’’ a moral agent who through voluntary action poses an unjust threat but is not culpable for doing so . here is an example : the identical twin brother of a notorious murderer is driving during a stormy night in a remote area when his car breaks down . unaware that his brother has recently escaped from prison && is thought to be hiding in this same area , he knocks on the door of the nearest house , seeking to phone for help . on opening the door , the armed && frightened resident mistakes the harmless twin for the murderer && lunges at him with a knife . assuming that this is the only way to save his own life , may the twin kill the resident ? most people believe that he would be justified in doing so , even if the resident is acting reasonably in the circumstances && thus is fully excused for the threat he poses to the twin . && the rights-based account provides an explanation of why the twin would be justified : because the resident would otherwise violate the twin’s right not to be killed , the resident lacks a right not to be killed by him . in short , the resident makes himself liable to be killed . another type of case that is even more problematic for many accounts of self-defense involves a ‘‘ nonresponsible threat , ’’ a person who poses an unjust threat without being in any way responsible for doing so . . .

017. when does your character think that violence is justified or deserved ?
unsurprisingly based on what we see in canon , ysayle is of the mind that the ends justify the means when it comes to violence in some situations . she was not afraid to harm or kill ishgardians in the name of her cause , to do things that might kill ishgardians indirectly && she expected the dragons to kill soldiers in their vengeance ;; a toll she felt was rightly deserved up to a point .
she is not blood-thirsty however && takes no joy in killing anything , nor causing any to suffer needlessly . every death by her hands was one she either felt necessary for the sake of ending the dragonsong war , or beyond her control . her decision to harness the power of shiva , i believe , was in part because she wanted the strength to make notable change && have the power to prevent more deaths through that agency . civilians especially , deserve to be spared the horrors of war whenever possible , because at the very least soldiers know what to expect of their dangerous work . so simply put , ysayle believes violence to be justified in the name of over-arching peace or self-defense/survival && believes it to be deserved by those who would senselessly enact violence on others .
030. do they believe in the afterlife ?
she did , for the time that she believed she was channeling the spirit of shiva herself , for that spirit would have to have come from somewhere && an afterlife would be the logical conclusion for that . upon learning the truth about her summoning however , she is less-inclined to believe in such things . she is quite agnostic about the concept overall , seeing no strong reasons to believe in an afterlife , but also not denying that it is possible .
350. super secret question #350 which was not on the list : does marshmallow love taco ?
yes with all their heart .
012. what makes your character embarrassed ?
ysayle is easily embarrassed by all manner of things && sentiments && gestures . she is simply not accustomed to receiving praise , or compliments , or gestures of affection , or being teased or what have you . she is very easy to fluster at this point , but will grow more accustomed to the simple realities of having people grow close to her in time . she just needs some time to adjust to having any sort of social life && relationships .
023. what do they consider beautiful in others physically ?
ahhh anything !! everything !! ysayle is decidedly demisexual , which means she doesn’t experience any sexual attraction to others until she becomes closer to them in other ways , but she can still appreciate the aesthetic appeal of anybody && wow ! does she love what makes people unique , whether it’s a particularly sharp bridge of the nose or particularly piercing eyes or elegant fingers or anything !! && you can bet that she will meticulously study && appreciate everything about the body of anybody she takes as a proper lover .
001. when is their birthday ?
twenty-ninth sun of the first astral moon ( january 28th for us , she’s an aquarius ! )
100. does your character dream ? if so, what do they dream about ?
i think that until recently , most of ysayle’s dreams were unfortunately night terrors brought on by her PTSD && survivor’s guilt following the death of her loved ones as a child . it would make her all the more steadfast in seeing an end to the dragonsong war so that none would have to experience the same that she did during her waking hours . other than that however , she dreamed of shiva && hraesvelgr , as well as visions granted to her by the echo . now that things are slowly && steadily beginning to change && she is not living in such precarious situations , she will begin to have less night terrors over time . a more peaceful life will do her sleeping habits a great deal of good .
057. has your character ever killed anyone ?
yes , she would not expect her followers to be willing to put their lives on the line if she were not as well . there are more than a few ishgardian soldiers who lost their lives at the hand of lady iceheart && that contributed to her notoriety . however , as mentioned earlier she finds no joy in taking the lives of others nor in their suffering && with an unsteady peace having been found in ishgard , she would be content to never have to do so again if possible .
@drachenblood 100 development questions .
i usually dislike my smile too much for pictures but i was just so enamored by my cat that he got me to take some of the only pics i have of me smiling with teeth lol
happy munday . here are old pictures of when my cat decided to take over the shots of my newly-dyed hair . ( they / them )
59 and 98 !!! :0
059. list several phrases your character is fond of uttering . where did they pick them up?
to be honest the phrases i think ysayle would have ended up using most in her lifetime were those of inspiration && rhetoric regarding the end to the dragonsong war && beseeching saint shiva ( ' we who gods && men have forsaken shall be the instruments of our own deliverance ‘ for instance , as what could be deemed propaganda ) . she’s otherwise been largely on her own for a great deal of her life && therefore had few people who’s mannerisms she could adopt in such a way , besides maybe the standard things you hear across eorzea that she picked up while in dravania . curses , cries to the gods , that sort of thing . ( although i don’t think she curses much . ) maybe i’ll discover some phrases she’s particularly keen on as i write her more ^_^
098. does your character like animals ?
ysayle loves animals of all types ( && plants along with them ) although much like dragons , she’s fully aware that wild creatures must be respected on their terms . i’ve mentioned this once before but she is simply generally fond && in awe of all things that grow . were she to have the chance to travel more than she did , she might go so far as to record her sightings of all the different fauna across eorzea .
