'he hates sun wukong' cranky because ur not the monkey king, aren't we erlang shen?
LISTEN
because it took an entire 3 books just to get him and da ji to stop their bullshit.
im going back to sleep but starter call.
Make way!
sun wukong: *exists*
erlang shen:
When dealing with the diablo brothers, he chose to fling himself into the maw of Mo Lishou's beast and was thus eaten alive. However, as he was still inside of the beast's belly, he transformed himself into something bigger and exploded out of its confines. He transformed into the elephant soon after, pretending to be Lishou's pet until he was able to trample him to death. Ironically, Jiang Ziya still takes credit for this battle and Yang Jian just lets him get away with it.
As a running joke in some media, he loses track of when he is transformed into a disguise or not and sometimes slips into them as a subtle reflex, often times scaring his companions.

‘ EVEN IF THE THIRD EYE DID NOT SHINE , this one would never lie to Your Highness. ’ In his calloused hand , Hongyan clutched the white jade seal : symbol of the mandate. A ridiculous trinket passed through the ashen and bloodied fingers of all the people he wanted to protect. Even more ridiculous when a true ‘ Son of Heaven, ’ whose blood was of divine jade , stood before him with a face more beautiful than the sunlight glazing fields of wheat , a presence overwhelming in compassion that sickened and comforted mortals. ‘ This one saw Your Highness… once from afar , when he was but a boy and the late emperor still sat on this very throne. ’
‘ War is the means to which the Great Huáng will achieve true unity. Your Highness seeks justice , as is your right. Yet justice thrives not between attrition and rebellions. This one shall not stop the conquests —— not when he has become the lonesome one and inherited these dreams. ’ Hongyan set the seal with a heavy thump against the throne’s arm. He leaned forward , with his head lowered in reverence. ‘ I only ask : will Your Highness carve out this heart as tyrannical , right here and now? This one shall give his own knife. Or will the prayers of the people , of this one , be heard? ’
his eyes are like those of a great condor. watching and waiting for the weakness of wounded, would-be prey and no less pervasive when they found none. the invitation has invited him to an entrapment of words. and his gaze, while full of mercy and acknowledgement for the copious flattery offered him, was no less gentle than before.
❝ what says the mandate of heaven? that the son of the celestial empire must be many things. strong in the pursuit of justice, in his giving of food and wealth, and that he must love his people as if they were born from his blood. the people are of supreme importance, it is written. that then the altars are to be taken care of, and then lastly His Majesty. ❞
the god hums, raising his cherished oval fan from his belt to ease the summer heat. the emperor was pure fire. a phoenix that could bring attention from the room in a matter of seconds. stately and perhaps at times uncouth. a man from the people. a man of righteous blood and powerful intellect. ❝ your majesty invokes our name for justice and suggests that we would seek to replace him. but is that not the job of the people, through the right of rebellion? ❞
he moves fluidly through the room, his stature tall and his body slender. braids of black hair are long, tied neatly at his waist to show his many years, but stark against the pale yellow of his clothes.
❝ heaven can see and hear, and does so through the eyes and ears of its subjects; heaven rewards the virtuous and punishes the wicked, and it does so through the people... so last is but a question. ❞ yang jian stopped dead in his pacing, turning to offer a curious glance toward his comely host. ❝ your majesty, which do you deserve? virtuous reward or wicked punishment? ❞
most of my interpretation is going to come from Bao Lian Deng and Fengshen Yanyi, in which when Erlang's Shen’s mother was tasked with limiting mortal desire, she fell in love with his father whom was mortal. He had siblings, Yang Jiao and Yang Chan, and his mother, father and brother were killed for their union. Shit hits the fan and he goes ham for revenge. In the myth of Mount Tao, he cleaves a mountain in half with his blade and proceeds to murder nine of the Jade Emperor's sons for vengeance. and then in other myths, he transforms into odd things in order to scare or trick people for fun. In Fengshen Yanyi, he’s a renowned demon hunter that often times helps out other immortal beings in taking down tough spirits.
-- best part was that his sister marries a mortal man, Liu Yanchang, and has a son by him. While there are some interpretations that switch Chen Xiang (the child) with Erlang Shen as the antagonist, we don't serve up hipocrisy on this here portrayal and instead go with the idea of him being protective of Chen Xiang since they were essentially born of the same fruit.
❝ to live inside the palace is to live inside a cage. the truth is similar for the celestial court in heaven. for compensation, to gaze upon the three realms is considered a gift. is it the same for your eyes to this kingdom? ❞ // @nobleconsort
❝ i question whether to call you my companion, or perhaps my brother. and yet i would pity you if it were the latter. for men have the gift of a temporary hardship. but you have lasted and thrived as long as we have. ❞ // @jyungu
❝ you chose to do this of your own volition. some will martyr you, others will see you as a threat to their way of life. such is the nature of those who dwell in the mortal realm. but i cannot help you. ❞
his eyes are remarkably hard for a man that looks so gentle. jet black hair cascades in waves down shoulders and spine, the faintest sparkle of gold flickering from beneath his gaze. there were no words to describe the service she had provided to their people. heaven would smile down upon her gratefully, even if the humans would condemn her for her actions. though he hoped that wasn’t the case. he had a place in his heart for mercy, and he prayed that guan yin would grant her powerful protections and furlough the inevitable unrest.
❝ but the way is hard and wet with rain. ❞ yang jian’s palms turned upward, gesturing to the shadowy, candle-filled cavern that he currently made his home. a hermit at heart, he had made it comfortable with artistic paintings and old, unwanted furniture lining the walls. ❝ i request your company, to sit and dine... though the food is little. ❞ // @shehare
aaaand starter call.
❝ and who are you? no fangs, no claws. yet perhaps one who would lie at the slightest provocation? ❞ careful hands fold against their middle, teeth set with his jaw squared. he scrutinized every aspect of this supposed world-ender, head canted slightly to the right.
A Chen Kun hair appreciation post :D
curiosity floods a noble visage, the eyes of the god narrowed while lost in thought. in retrospect, his previous encounter with elemental deities wasn’t necessarily friendly. he’d imprisoned and eventually destroyed a water dragon, and murdered nine sun deities in cold-blooded revenge.
he was no threat to this boy, though. not in the least.
he relaxed, snapping back to the conversation at hand. one palm cradled a cup of wine that he’d been nursing, the other laid back behind him against a particularly large, puffy cushion. ❝ and you just woke up there? ❞ // @cheiian (chen jian)
so apparently erlang shen is in some sort of video game ( not koei’s fengshen yanyi ) and that’s all that’s in his tag and i’m so confused.
