The Real Jesus: 7 Facts About Jesus
(1) Jesus and his core disciples were not formally educated. They were considered "unlearned" and "ignorant" :
Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught. And the Jews marveled, saying, âHow does this Man know letters, having never studied?â -John 7:14-15
"Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus." -Acts 4:13
(2) Jesus was HOMELESS, unemployed and received support from others during His 3 1/2 year ministry:
"And Jesus said to him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has no where to lay his head." -Luke 9:58
"and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmitiesâMary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herodâs steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance." -Luke 8:2-3
(3) Jesus violated the cultural customs of his nation:
"Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, âWhy do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They donât wash their hands before they eat!â
Jesus replied, âAnd why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? For God said, âHonor your father and your motherâ and âAnyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.â But you say that if a man says to his father and mother, âWhatever help you might otherwise have received from me is a gift devoted to God,â he is not to âhonor his fatherâ with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition." - Matthew 15:1-6
(4) Jesus was not physically attractive:
"He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him." -Isaiah 53:2
(5) Jesus believed He was God in human person:
"So the Jewish leaders tried all the harder to find a way to kill him. For he not only broke the Sabbath, he called God his Father, thereby making himself equal with God." John 5:18
"Before Abraham I existed" - John 8:58
(6) Jesus was accused of being a demon and a lunatic:
âI am not possessed by a demon,â said Jesus, âbut I honor my Father and you dishonor me. -John 8:49
When his family heard what was happening, they tried to take him away. "He's out of his mind," they said -Mark 3:21
(7) Jesus did not come to bring world peace:
"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword." -Matthew 10:34
The Bible also tells us that Jesus was a Healer (Matthew 8:5-13); a Teacher (John 13:13); a Resurrected Messiah (Luke 24); The Savior of the World (1 John 4:14).
The Bible leaves no room to say that Jesus was just a "good man". No, either he was who his critics said he was or he was (is) who he believed Himself to be.
