relationships are so much healthier when the goal is to experience life together & not to try to make the person turn into who you want them to be.
Thinking about how Thomas and the Captain are two sides of the same coin.
Both are inept in their chosen fields, but they put their heart and soul into it. Each is mocked by (most of) his peers, but yearns for their respect.
One lives in a world that encourages him to embrace emotional expression and individuality; the other lives in a world that forces him to repress them, stripping him of all identity but his rank.
Each of them is loved by someone who finds his idiosyncrasies charming, even as everyone else laughs. And yet, the pursuit of this love leads each to an ignominious death.
The Captain dies having learned that his feelings are requited, with Havers by his side. Thomas dies alone, believing that Isabelle no longer loves him.
They are a soldier who died from a broken heart, and a poet who died from a gunshot.
I just had an idea for teachers to use at the beginning of the year to demonstrate the pitfalls of over using AI. You have one student come up to the front of the room and you have a jar of something like m&ms, skittles, marbles (something with lots of colors). You tell the student to close their eyes and not open until you say they can. Tell them to, with their eyes closed, pick out 5 of whatever the object is. They should be able to do this easily. You ask them to tell you how they know they got 5. The answer should be something to do with feel. They can tell by touch that they are right.
Then ask them what colors they picked. Since their eyes have been closed they really wonât know. And thatâs the point. You can use AI to help with some things and you can probably trust that itâs right to an extent. But AI doesnât truly know the subject matter like we do by opening our eyes and taking in the information. And we canât really learn material until weâve used more than just one sense to observe it.

Please send me the training or tutorial in a written format with maybe some screenshots if necessary. I don't want a video tutorial. I don't want to waste time trying to scroll to the exact moment in the instructions that I need and then have to pause and replay it because I missed the .01 seconds of actually relevant information.
Please. Text. Maybe some images for clarification. I can read. I promise.

Happy Pride!
Every pride, you must reblog this. No exceptions
Anyone gonna mention how this guy actually preformed live with Carly Rae Jepsen?
Iâm gonna scream is2g
I was thinking of reblogging this again just because the original video is still amazing, but then I see the second video and lost my mind. The upgraded fan, the body glitter, the sheer fact that he got to do this with the actual singer.
Did I just become a Carly Rae Jepsen fan?

i think this is probably true of every office, but there's a middle aged woman working in business who doesn't hold any particular place in the chain of command but is Sovereign. i was running support and she has access to more secure network drives than i do. im pretty sure she has an admin account. i was having trouble with my parking pass and my boss just said to talk to kristen- one day later i had parking in any garage on campus. she's not even in charge of parking in our building
This is also true of academia. In pretty much any department of the university â in my experience at least â thereâs a person with a small-but-private office and an unassuming title (probably including a word like âsecretaryâ or âassistantâ), usually an older woman, and she actually runs the place. Faculty defer to her; department heads come and go, but Jill has been there for thirty years and knows how everything works, and sheâs the person you go to if you want to get anything done. Youâll know her because when a professor directs you to her they wonât say âyou need to talk to the Office of So-and-So because this falls under their purviewâ, but âyou need to talk to Jill.â Her official job title is basically irrelevant because her actual role is acting as eminence grise for this whole operation.
Iâve personally had the experience where my advisor told me âyou should do such-and-such certification, go talk to Jill,â and I went to talk to Jill & she said âactually you canât do such-and-such because XYZ,â so I went back to my advisor to relay this, and he just kind of shrugged and was like, âwell if Jill says no, then it canât be doneâ and that was the end of it. Complete veto power, no higher authority to turn to, because the only reason Jill canât do something is if itâs literally impossible.
Honestly thereâs probably a whole dissertation about invisible labor and gender dynamics in there waiting to be written.
The one in my undergrad department was Linda C, and I think her hypercompetence must have risen to the point of allowing her to manipulate time itself, because in my experience, every time you needed to talk to Ms. C, you would end up chatting with her for at least an hour (which was both enjoyable and informative) and yet she got so much work done--it just didn't seem physically possible.
Take secretaries and administrative assistants out of any organization and you'll see it crumble in no time. They are the holder of the secrets to understanding red tape and other administrative nightmares.
Going to change my job title to âholder of the secrets to understanding red tape and other administrative nightmaresâ now.
So thanks for that.
that was everything I was hoping it would be. marvelous
