The Hellion and the Sheep

Caleb was patient. Very patient. But straight-out tardiness was definitely one of his pet peeves in life. Which happened a lot whenever he worked with Cairo. For some reason punctuality didn’t run in the family. Neither did it do so in the crew. The reason why it pissed him off most with Cairo was that he couldn’t thoroughly punish him as hard as he could do so with his other crew members. He couldn’t throw him out – they were living together after all and neither could he afford inflicting corporal pain onto the Ace without tainting their reputation or their level of safety. So he didn’t have much of a choice to stand next to a Cafe in the middle of the day, constantly looking at his watch as if it could calm him down. He knew Cairo. Both of his sides. He would either be extremely cold towards their guest, merely mumbling for him to come along or for him to get way too friendly for anybody’s liking and talking about every single little thing of interest. It really depended on his mood. Looking from a third person view, anyone would think that Caleb was being foolish, standing in public where he could be executed or kidnapped. Yet, he didn’t think so. According to his reputation the Hellion was being guarded at all times, whether or not his defenders were visible or not was out of the question. Nobody dared to get even as far as to train their visor on God’s Bastard. Especially not in plain sight of the thousands of people who walked through town every day and passed his form.
An impatient sigh left his lips as he looked down on his watch again, only to see his crew member finally cutting the corner to the street and walking towards him with a younger male behind him. Only when Cairo saw the expression of his boss, he seemed to speed up a little. As if it could make anything better he was late anyways. Caleb’s eyes merely skimmed over the Ace’s figure in form of a glare before he trained his eyes to the stranger next to him not even trying to soften up his features. “You must be Yong Taemin. My name is Caleb Hwang and you’ve probably gotten to meet my crew member Cairo Choi already.” The other’s last name was made up out of fiction they’d agreed to use that name beforehand but it would mask their relation to each other more effectively. “Please follow me.” Without even waiting for a reply, Caleb offered the younger a nod and turned around to lead them to another block where their car was parked. It wasn’t exactly their car as they’ve borrowed it for a while but the Hellion wasn’t about to get identified by a car he bought himself. One couldn’t call it stealing either because he’d fill up the gas and put it back where it was at the end of the day. A good thief didn’t just always take; sometimes he’d also just borrow or leave something behind. And Cal wasn’t just a good thief; he was the best. “We’re just going to talk a little.” He said as he opened the back door for the other to take a seat while his crew member already walked to the other side to sit down at the driver’s seat.
Taemin’s childhood was something that no one should have to suffer through. Something that he wouldn’t wish on his worst enemy - okay, maybe his absolute worst enemy should have the pleasure of getting to experience the shit he went through growing up. From the yelling to the hitting to the downright neglect, Taemin had to learn how to take care of himself and survive on his own from a very young age. His parents often forgot, or just chose not to, feed him when he was young, which was part of the reason why he’s as small as he is. Tiny but mighty, he likes to say. People seem to always take his height and leaner figure for granted, thinking they could easily overpower him and make him bend to their will. But Taemin was smart - smart and clever. He might not have been as strong, but he was definitely twice as smart and very fast. That combined with the fighting skill he had picked up during his younger years was more than enough to help him win almost every fight he had ever been in. That was how he found himself being involved in gang activity from a very young age. It started out as petty stuff - stealing from convenience stores and minor vandalism, and moved onto bigger and better things. Stealing cars, assault, theft. You name it, he did it. And he was good at it. Most of the time he was only caught because of loyalty. He refused to allow any of his friends to go down, so he took the heat for them. That was what made him such a valuable asset to anyone involved in crooked work.
That was why he was even being considered to work for Cairo and Caleb. He didn’t know much about them, just that they were the best at what they did and that they were feared by pretty much everyone. And Taemin wanted that. He wanted to be like them some day. Feared and respected by everyone. He wanted just the sound of his name to shake people to their cores. It was his fault that they were late, something that he was mentally kicking himself for. What kind of first impression was he trying to make? When they finally turned the corner, his eyes rested on a figure that he immediately recognized as Caleb. Not that he had ever met him - it was just his appearance and presence that made him put two and two together. “Tae,” he corrected with a slight shrug of his shoulders. It was a preference of his to not be called by his full name. He returned the nod given to him, and followed him towards the car. “Talk.” Taemin looked at him skeptically for a split second, before climbing into the car. He’d been in dangerous situations like this before, he had no idea what he was hesitating so much now.

“I didn’t want to disturb you. I was going to wait for you to finish meditating.” He responds simply, watching the other and the cat before settling in his spot. “Mmm, I’ll whistle or something next time, but I think it’d scare you just as much to suddenly hear someone in your apartment, don’t you think?” There was really no way for him to announce himself. Unless he blew out a light bulb to knock on the door or something. “don’t do that-” His voice sounded far more frantic than he’d meant it to. “I could feel you meditating. You exude a lot of energy when you do that. It feels nice- it’s warm.”
✦ — “You know you don’t disturb me. You know I enjoy your company around here.” He doesn’t have many friends - most people find him a little bit off putting. It’s not like Minkyu is rude or mean, he just puts off the vibes that he’s not normal, which he isn’t, and a lot of people pick up on those. He’s used to it though, and he’s learned to deal with being alone. Having Tao around sometimes is great though. “Good point,” he murmurs, before looking at him. “I wouldn’t do that to you. I was just kidding, Tao, I promise. You know you’re always welcome here.” He smiles slightly. “Really? Well I guess it’s okay for you to hang around while I meditate then.”
