If you ever trip and fall in public, get up, laugh to yourself, and say to anyone looking: “Sorry, it’s just been so long since I’ve inhabited a body.”
The twins exchanged glances, trying to say as much as they could in silent ways. Although the demon’s brief compliment had done little to quell their nervousness, he was right. They were smart enough to know that one generally couldn’t trust creatures summoned from magic books.
Maynard’s eyes narrowed, and he mouthed Antonella’s name. It was all he needed to say for his sister to understand. He was scared.
“I know, but…” This was everything to them, late night plans, promises made after fights with their father, a quiet belief that everything could and would be okay someday soon. Maynard locks eyes with her, reads her silently. Then, he nods. It’s worth a shot.
“Deal,” Antonella says, the finality of a decision restoring the confidence to her voice. “But if you don’t keep up your end, we’ll kill you.” A promise she has no idea how to keep, but it feels good to pretend that she does, even for a moment. She offers out her hand only to realize how tiny the demon’s hands were. She hoped he’d take it anyway. That’d just be awkward.
Twins were really not his favorite thing. Possibly even his least favorite thing--too many bad experiences had soured his opinion (it hadn’t been very high to begin with).
When his plan was done, and his goals achieved, he mused as he waited for a decision to be made, he would wipe out a large portion (if not all) of mankind. He would start with twins. The only good thing about them was that it almost always meant that there was someone he could use as collateral to make sure that their end of the deal was kept. Humans were so funny about family.
Deal.
The word was beautiful (not that he cared much for beautiful things). He floated closer, glowing brighter in his excitement--in his greed. Human bodies were a means to an end, but there was always something exhilarating about possession; like putting on a new pair of shoes.
“Sure you will, sure you will,” Bill said gleefully. “No one ever has before, but I’m sure you two will figure it out.” Even though his tone was condescending, Antonella had his full attention. He watched her extend her hand, and then watched the hand for a moment. He didn’t want to seem too eager.
He didn’t leave her waiting long, not wanting the humans to change their minds and decide that they don’t need him after all. Bill took her hand in his, blue flames growing where they joined. His hand grew to fit--a plus side of being made of pure energy.
“Deal,” he echoed, letting the words hang in the air. Then he pulled (and tore, and ripped) her consciousness out and replaced it with his own.
“Ten. Ten. In fact, they are literally attached to me. And vise-versa.” I had been spinning around, trying to figure out where the irritatingly omnipresent voice was coming from before I spotted it hovering in the air above me. Literally my least favorite kind of being, fucking sweet. I could feel how much this was about to suck. “General question: please go away now?”
No, it wasn’t a real question. No, I don’t care.
“You humans lose teeth all the time!” Especially children. Humans just seemed to shed parts of themselves willy-nilly. “What’s a few teeth between friends, eh, Dave?”
Bill lowered himself slightly, until he was eye-level. His own eye widened slightly at Dave’s question. “Now why would I do that? I just got here!”
Dipper wrapped his arm around himself at the temperature suddenly dropped, facing Bill again. “I-I…f-friendly advice? A-About what, what are you going to do? What are you planning!?”
“Ah-ah-ah!” Bill chided, twirling himself in the air. “See, I would have told you, but we’re not friends! You said so yourself, Pine Tree. Boy, and I was going to just tell you everything.” He wasn’t; not really, but it sounded good. “Too bad. You’ve really dug yourself a hole, here, huh?”
meatsmxll liked for a starter
“On a scale of one to ten, how attached are you to your teeth?” Bill asked, fazing into existence brick-by-brick. “Just as a general question.”
find-the-unknown:
Dipper felt a shiver travel down his spine, trying to keep a strait face. Taking a deep breath, he stared Bill in the eyes- eye. “No, Bill, we aren’t friends. I don’t know what you consider a friend, but threatening and trying to kill my family and friends doesn’t put someone in the friendship category.”
He turned so his back was facing Bill, staying stiff while he was panicking on the inside. Perhaps pushing a demon’s buttons wasn’t the smart move, but Dipper couldn’t show he was…terrified.
The steadily rising temperature dropped all at once. If he had teeth, Bill would be grinning, even to Dipper’s turned back. He did not have teeth, but settled for returning to his usual hue and adjusting his hat.
“I was hoping you’d say that,” he said, the words warping at their edges. “You see, if we were friends, I’d have to be friendly. Ha! But we’re not. Too bad for you. I was going to give you that friendly warning, but, well.”
Like for a short starter of some sort?
find-the-unknown:
Dipper backed away slightly, his skin crawling at the tingling sensation that engulfed that air. He panicked at the temperature seemed to rise. “I-I…w-well I mean…. Y-You’ve tried to get rid of me in the past, that’s not really what friends do.”
Bill drifted closer, almost giddy at how uncomfortable Dipper was. “Sure, sure, of course I have. You were getting awfully close to things that you shouldn’t be getting close to. Not that it stopped you much, did it, Pine Tree?” His tone didn’t quite drip malice, but it was certainly laced with it.
“You didn’t answer the question. Are we friends?”
sorrowscars:
“What kind of ‘something big’?”
Not that he expected a straight answer to that question, or any answer at all. Demons rarely gave one. Perhaps he could ask Watari later about their database, see if Bill Cipher was listed in it.
Noting their surroundings again, it didn’t seem like anyone else was in any immediate danger. Frozen, mostly; out of focus like an old film. It felt somewhat like walking on Earth in his spirit form, a part of the world and yet not, but this wasn’t his own doing. It made him think about the slips of fuda paper in his inside pocket, little portable spells should he need them. At least Bill appeared to be harmless for the time being.
“I’ve run into a lot of things, but never anything like you. Is this the only way we can speak? Through… this? What is this?”
“Ah-ah-ah,” Bill said, wagging a finger. “You can’t just expect me to tell you all my secrets, can you? I mean, I could, but that would cost ya’. Secrets aren’t cheap, you know.”
Not that he couldn’t tell Tsuzuki things. Lots of things. It isn’t like telling him meant that he could do anything about it. Still, Bill would prefer to keep some things under wraps.
“Aw, thank you, Beansprout. I am pretty great.” Pretty powerful. “Gotta admit, I’ve never run into anything like me, either. Wouldn’t want to.”
“This is one of the ways, sure. They call it the Mindscape. Sort of like a--a holding place, if you will. Sure. Let’s go with that. A holding place.”

find-the-unknown:
Dipper bit the inside of his cheek, his mind racing to find away to pull Bill away from Mable. “What do you want Bill. You obviously decided to bother me for a reason. Just tell me so I can say no to your deal.”
“Oh, you know,” Bill said, glowing slightly brighter. “The same thing as before. But don’t worry, Pinetree, I’m working on it.” His eye flashed bright red, the ‘air’ around him sizzling slightly. “Right now, I just felt like popping in. To give you a friendly warning. We are friends, aren’t we, Pinetree?”
sorrowscars:
No one’s called him kid in a very long time; not since his first partner, he thinks, way back in the 1920s. It’s weird. And so is whatever’s happening – it’s weird and highly uncomfortable, which he supposes is the point. The demons he encounters don’t usually have the ability to alter reality or… any of this, actually. He recalls Sagatanas and the blood and the wings and the violin; this is much different from that.
If Bill Cipher is even a demon at all. He’s never seen anything like him before.
“–What are you here for, then?”
“Vacation! Even I need a break every once and a while,” he lied. “Truth is, I’m waiting for something big to happen. Everything’s already in place, now it’s just a game of waiting. Figured, hey, why not take a look around."
It had been a long time since he’d been able to move around freely. He wasn’t about to waste the opportunity. Even if it was just a matter of waiting around, now.
“But don’t worry, I’m not interested in this place. This really is like a vacation!”
agentofnightvale
Carlos was too tired for this nonsense. Seriously. He needed more sleep (if he wasn’t already) before talking with a floating, talking Illuminati symbol in a bow tie.
“Believe me when I say I know that,” Carlos said, deciding to humor the strange little creature. This was probably a dream anyway, he couldn’t see the harm in talking to it. He also had a bit of a skewed idea of what was dangerous of not, especially since there was a good chance this wasn’t a dream.
“I don’t know Dorito,” Carlos grumbled, giving the being an unimpressed look. Labcoat? Nerd? Far from original. “You seem to know a thing or two about Night Vale. Why don’t you share your ideas with the lab?”
“Dorito, eh?” It took him a moment to recall what that was. Some disgusting human food. “Because I’m a triangle. Haha! Funny! You’re a funny guy. The name’s Bill. Bill Cipher.”
He composes himself, not about to let some silly com- ment upset him. “I know a lot of things about everything,” he said, his form flashing quickly through various events in the earth’s history. “Sure I could share my ideas with you.” But what would he get out of that?
“Want to know how you’re going to die? Or maybe if and how that boyfriend of yours is!” Bill laughed. “But, seriously, what do you want to know?”
astraanopsia:
“You try needing to eat to live and not being able to find any food. People were dying all around, to them, that was nothing but free meat.”
“Why would I want to do something like that?” Sure, sometimes a body came in handy, but in short bursts where he didn’t need to deal with taking care of it. “Imagine if they’d eaten everyone! Humans wouldn’t exist!”
"Big Brother isn’t watching. He’s singing and dancing. He’s pulling rabbits out of a hat. Big Brother’s busy holding your attention every moment you’re awake. He’s making sure you’re always distracted. He’s making sure you’re fully absorbed." --trxangleguy (i'm on the wrong blog)
“Sounds like a busy guy.”
And like someone’s just a little bit paranoid.
sorrowscars:
“It doesn’t affect me much anyway.” Which doesn’t mean he doesn’t care. He just doesn’t have a good understanding of modern, real-life politics; things were a lot less westernized when he was growing up, and though he’s had almost a century to acclimatize to that, he doesn’t live in the ‘real world’ anymore. Shinigami have a different set of rules than humans do.
“Humans are inherently good. That’s what I believe. If things were corrupted like that— humans would find a way to work through it. They always do.”
“Nah,” Bill waved a hand. “Humans are pretty selfish.”
It wouldn’t be so easy to convince them if they weren’t. Sure, there were quite a few that made deals with him because oh no, someone’s dying, boo-hoo, or it’s just to help everyone live better in the future, but it was still pretty selfish of humanity as a whole. They just didn’t know when to die.
“They’re more like... like weeds, really. Just keep springing up, and up and up.”

“ ah! oow… “ Chenaberry whimpered as she examined her scraped knee. It wasn’t a severe injury, but it still hurt. Glancing up for a moment, something caught her eye. The brunette raised an eyebrow in curiosity.
“ am i hallucinating…? “
“That depends what you mean by ‘hallucinating.’”
He existed, though maybe not in a strictly literal sense. Who did, though? Existence was just a small aspect of being. A small, boring aspect.
“Do you normally find yourself seeing strange shapes in the sky?” He populated the area around himself with small, colorful circles and squares, each popping in and out of existence in turn. “I’d just role with it. Pretend you’re hallucinating if that makes you feel better.”
